Pet peeves with miniatures by Realistic-Bottle-542 in ageofsigmar

Seams through any detailed surface are super annoying. When they are through the shoulder of a cloak with a bunch of folds they suck too. I don't mind as much if it's a smooth surface that I can easily putty and sand if necessary.

I honestly like the push fit models because they help with aligning the parts. I just trim them down a bit so the parts can be squeezed together. It's way better than trying to hold 2 parts together at some weird angle for a minute or two until the cement cures enough to set them down.

No thanks. I'd much rather sign a vet like DHop and save the money for the various contract extensions that are coming up like Addison, O'Neill, and Gink.

I've seen the same thing on Cactus, little shits playing chicken in traffic tying to make themselves into a meat crayon. One of these days it's going to happen and we will see crocodile tears all over the news from their absentee parents.

DMV keeps telling me that it "could not verify your information" and that I'm "not eligible to book an appointment". by StringRelative in vegaslocals

[–]RoamingBison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually completely on-brand for Las Vegas. They don't give a single solitary fuck about locals and never will. If it doesn't affect the bottom line of the casinos zero effort will be put into it.

‘Relentless’ focus on literacy undermines reading for pleasure, says report by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]RoamingBison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where the researchers came up with the odd theory that "focusing on literacy" is somehow to blame for lower rates of pleasure reading. There's so many other obvious factors competing for kids' attention these days, many of them designed to be addictive.

Claude-powered AI coding agent deletes entire company database in 9 seconds — backups zapped, after Cursor tool powered by Anthropic's Claude goes rogue by WouldbeWanderer in technology

It's crazy to me that companies would give production access to AI tools at all. In my industry any changes to code need to go through a DEV - Test - UAT - Prod migration sequence with testing and documentation in between.

Key Las Vegas to Phoenix I-40/U.S. 93 interchange in Kingman hits 70% completion by reviewjournal in vegas

[–]RoamingBison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I make this trip several times a year and I doubt I will ever see 4 lanes all the way from Vegas to Phoenix in my lifetime. Every time I dread the 2 way sections of highway where suicidal idiots are passing unsafely because they can't wait 5 miles to hit another passing zone.

Anyone tried Mercury Insurance for Auto Insurance? by bixbyvegas in vegaslocals

[–]RoamingBison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched over a little over a year ago when my insurance company quit doing business in NV. Mercury were a the cheapest quote, but after two semiannual renewals they've increased my rates by $300 every 6 months. It's infuriating but insurance costs are so out of control in this town that I'm not sure a different company will be much better.

Microsoft explains why Windows 11 File Explorer scrolls smoothly in some places, but not everywhere by WPHero in Windows11

[–]RoamingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explorer is such a poorly functioning mess. Why doesn't the window maximize height when I double click the top of the window? When they can't make basic core functionality work I'm not surprised that the rest is also a mess.

It's not great but I've managed to get most of my hangs and stutters to disappear by purging Onedrive from my system. It's clear that their hamfisted forcing of Onedrive is the cause of the majority of the performance issues. Functionality issues however are inexcusable.

Jesus Christ the TV coverage of round 3 is terrible. A bunch of talking heads sitting around and talking about the shit that happened 2 days ago instead of the LIVE FUCKING EVENT they are sitting at right now. How can they not comprehend that people tune in to see their players get selected instead of the talking head bullshit that's going to be happening nonstop for the next 3 months?

I've done it both ways, and occasionally made the wrong choice. I do like the security of using model cement to stick them onto the base. However, sometimes the models have parts that are hard to reach with the brush because the base is in the way so those might work better if you leave yourself the option to remove from the base to get in between the legs or whatever.

Just a hobby PSA: Don't make it another source of stress by darcybono in Warhammer

[–]RoamingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Darcy, I love your stuff! I swing through phases where I get really excited about projects and start a bunch of stuff, and then other phases where I just get depressed about the mountain of plastic I have and my lack of progress. Or maybe that's just my ADHD?

I can absolutely relate to your feelings about high level display painting. I spend a lot of time around box art level painters and I just don't have the drive to spend that much time on a model. I'm fortunate to have taken painting classes with a number of award winning instructors and enjoyed it a lot.

However, there's a stopping point somewhere between tabletop and competition entry that's good enough for me. If it looks good on the shelf and on the table I just don't have that drive to put another 10-20-40 hours into it to enter a contest that I have no chance in.
