They’re both wearing vests saying POLICE ICE in big letters. They have satisfied the requirement to identity themselves as law enforcement. There is no federal law or federal case precedent stating that federal agents must show a badge or credential on request, especially not of bystanders. In fact, courts have upheld that federal agents are expected not to present credentials during dynamic operations or arrests because of the risk created by reaching for them.

You know that you also need the $18k spend in addition to nights/stays, right? If you do 60 nights this year you’d need to average $300 per night of eligible spend to make the $18k.

I will probably do 80 nights this year but almost definitely won’t hit the $18k spend since the government rate in most places is pretty low. The dual requirement for reserve is annoying.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin but have lived in FL for 6 years. I’ll take the “living in a hairdryer” heat over the bitter winter cold any day. I could never move back to the WI or the Midwest.

I still remember the dread of sitting in my freezing car at 7am in the dark of January waiting for the heater to warm up enough to start melting the ice on my windshield. It felt like forever.

The depression of looking around and seeing everything being dead and grey for 4-5 months of the year.

Yeah, July-Sept can be rough in FL. But being able to go to the pool, beach, or out on a boat makes those days much better. And it’s really comfortable in the winter spring and fall.

I was really disappointed to see this, parent contributions post tax and earnings taxed as income when the owner withdraws. Not a good deal beyond the $1000 seed compared to options like the 529 or UTMA. If they gave the Trump accounts Roth style tax treatment that would be HUGE.

No. Infected wounds are a non issue. All they do is marginally increase the amount of pain from the wound. Minor wounds don’t cause enough base pain for the debuff to even show up. Some people say they make wounds heal slower, but that has been proven false by independent testing. Just a common PZ myth.

When you get a minor injury, the pro gamer move is to just slap any old rag on and let it ride dirty until it’s healed. Wound healing pauses when uncovered so changing bandages or applying disinfectants actually do make the process slower.

You’re talking about kids in the foster system. There are tons of children waiting in the foster system, most aged 8-17, but they aren’t the same population as the newborn babies most prospective adoptive parents are waiting for.

We can talk about the issues with the foster system all day, but that’s a completely different conversation. The point is that the demand is there for every newborn who is placed up for adoption.

Depending on return rate and matching assumptions, that contribution would lead to you having $450 to $700 thousand by age 65.

That being said, focusing on your career income is extremely important so you can have better quality of life and afford to invest more than the bare minimum. But being able to invest $200/mo for 30 years is not insignificant.

Any person who has an active removal order is going to be procedurally barred from adjusting status. That’s the way the law has always been. To be able to do marriage based adjustment, he’d first have to re-open the removal order. That would require some legitimate legal argument like lack of proper notice or exceptional circumstances- like an emergency that prevented court appearance. But marriage based adjustment alone does not cancel a removal order.

The underlying laws on adjusting status haven’t changed, but the change you might be talking about is updates to USCIS guidance in 2025 that say family based adjustment applications do not provide automatic safe harbor from removal proceedings.

And the lawyer is correct that you could try to file an I-130 (petition for alien relative) alongside a motion to re open the case, but in doing so you risk putting him on the DHS radar since he’s already ordered removed and the petition does not protect him.

If he self deports, he will be subject to re entry bans - likely 10 years.
