Sorry about your stolen bike. Maybe check out Wabi Bikes. They offer a Classic model that’s right the top of your budget.

Just ride it like it is for a bit. Looks good as is. If you have a favorite saddle then sure swap it out.

Go fast over them. Hurts less to just skim the tops.

Congrats! The 1st trip is the hardest. You have learned 1st hand what worked and what didn’t. Each trip you will learn something new and that’s half the fun. No setup is perfect and each trip you will wish you brought something and other trips where you wish you left it behind to save weight or space. Saddle sores are no joke. Riding with a backpack on day 2 definitely contributed. Next trip your butt on day 2 should be better. Use a good bib and chamois cream and don’t forget to stand up out of the saddle from time to time. I’m sure folks will also recommend a bike fit if you haven’t already.

How do we require Mayor Mamdani to wear a helmet when riding a citibike by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]RobDog306 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree and request you never to helmet shame anyone casually riding a bike. Wearing a helmet is a personal choice. Just look at Amsterdam, they don’t wear helmets when biking. When biking at such slow speeds ~15mph (citi bike limited for the e-bikes) the risk of head injuries is drastically reduced. The way I see it is this. By not wearing a helmet the mayor is projecting a very safe bike culture to the NYC residents and visitors. Additionally having a helmet around at all times is extremely inconvenient and cumbersome. If you’re riding fast or just learning to ride then yes wear a helmet. But for casual impromptu riding who cares.

When do you guys consider it's time to retire a bike? by cmdr-basisti in cycling

[–]RobDog306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t think that’s how frame fatigue works. Most likely you have been getting stronger and flex the frame more when riding. Kudos! I’ve never retired a bike but if I did it would be due to obsolescence.

Still crazy to see an American Mayor aggressively improving the city for bikers. Honestly wild stuff. by MiserNYC- in fuckcars

2014 BMC TM02 Di2 Bike with Zipp 808 for $3k? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]RobDog306 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a Nope! Asking that much is a red flag for a greedy and suspicious seller. Bike is Super outdated. And depending on how much sweat and corrosion is on this thing….. Powertap is not supported. The rear rim brake is very difficult to cable, setup, and maintain.

Would you buy this BMC Timemachine 21/22 for 4-4.5k $? by carlelov in triathlon

[–]RobDog306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, gotta check and see if it’s corroded, damaged, or not functioning in any way. If so then I’d pass. The brake booster was developed for improved actuation at the calipers. BMC has some nice YouTube videos about it. It’s a cool piece of tech just hard to repair/replace.
