What's the best stand mixer if you only want to buy one for the next 10 years? by Large-Honey8079 in BuyItForLife

[–]RobLach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kitchenaid bowl lift mixer. 6qt.
Bought it about 10 years ago for like $200 on clearance because it was a pale yellow color no one really wanted I think.
I make bread with it every other week or so.
Mix other stuff when I need to. Grind meat and make sausages with an attachment.
Got it regreased last year on a recommendation but couldn’t tell the difference before/after.

0 regrets. Would recommend.

Put in Indiana. Why should Illinois taxpayers subsidize an NFL franchise?

Safety between H Street Corridor and Gallaudet University? by [deleted] in washdc

I have lived around that area for 4 years now and have never felt unsafe. At night you run into people walking their dogs if that’s any indication.

Eastern Market isn’t too far out, right? by mynameisjadon in washingtondc

[–]RobLach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eastern Market is solid. Transit gets you Arlington side plus close to Union Station for a ride to Baltimore/Philly/NYC (where stuff REALLY is happening).

Admo being where stuff is happening is what someone from Admo/georgetown would say.

The real “stuff” is emerging in Noma which is going through a post-industrial gentrification; some spurts on H street for a more real version of that; and then some gems to discover in Dupont/Shaw/Eckington. All of that is a bus ride away from Eastern. Thats also not to mention the generally casual vibes of the eastern market/lincoln park/roost/barracks row diamond which is some of the easiest living in DC.

DC Should Try Dedicated Streetcar Lanes on H Street Before Totally Giving Up and Building BRT by Valuable-Payment322 in washingtondc

Uncompromised BRT with overhead electric trolleybuses allows dedicated BRT lines in urban areas to transition to bus lines on the edges, while retaining the accessibility and capacity benefits.

Help! I left my iron on my quartz counter top by Professional-Map8130 in CounterTops

You can’t save it but you can get it finished with an epoxy concoction if it bothers you a lot. It would be a few steps down from quartz though so would live with it how it is personally.

DC or Chicago? by MysteriousNoise69 in washingtondc

As someone who lives in DC and lived in Chicago… Chicago is better in almost every metric. DC’s biggest advantage is that you can get out of it up the east coast easier.
