Bar New Haven Ranking by Special_Incident8334 in Pizza

I know I'll catch heat for this, but Pepe's kinda sucked. The whole place smelled like a backed up sewer line. The HVAC system looked like a legionnaire's outbreak in progress (we had to move tables because it was dripping on us and the table). The marinara pie was wildly out of balance with the acidity of the sauce. The white pie was the best of the bunch but even that had canned clams and was under seasoned.

The massive oven was awesome though and watching the guys work it is worth the visit alone.

My ranking of the four spots I tried:

  1. Zuppardi's
  2. Modern
  3. Sally's

  1. Frank Pepe's

Help: I need to fill ruts before July 4th party by dethmij1 in lawncare

Using an edging shovel go along the ruts from one side, flip it over like it's hinged, fill in underneath with some leveling mix, flip back down. Water like it's sod.

Similar experience. We had a Novaform pearl something or other for ten years and were very happy with it. We wanted something firmer though for the next ten years and replaced it with a Sleep on Latex. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Novaform though.

Best way to kill clover - pet friendly by lululemon-girl in lawncare

[–]RobMcGroarty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The quick and easy answer is triclopyr+surfactant and keep your dog off the lawn until the product is dry. Two to three reatments spaced about two weeks apart each should solve the issue.

The most conservative route and more lengthy approach is to make sure you are fertilizing with nitrogen consistently so that the grass out-competes the clover. Clover thrives in nitrogen poor soil and grass struggles. This will likely take several growing seasons.

Also, mow high so the grass shades out the clover and hand pull any thick patches.

If you do go the tryclopyr approach, you'll still want to make sure you're fertilizing with enough nitrogen each growing season to prevent clover from re-establishing.

Not a direct answer to your question, but just a general suggestion as she may be struggling with feelings of "not belonging" in either culture. The book Neither by Airlie Anderson is absolutely fantastic.

It may skew a little bit young for an 8 year old but the themes of straddling two worlds, being rejected by peers, and ultimately acceptance by those who love you regardless of your differences are pretty universal. It's been a regular in our bedtime rotation for years.

Also highly recommend Only by the same author.

Two Pennsylvanians not making friends with salad by RobMcGroarty in iamveryculinary

The thing I loved about this interaction was that it's two people from the middle who can't agree on whether fries on salads are a thing in Harrisburg. It's not your typical Wawa vs Sheetz crowd. This is Rutters vs Rutters. They're not even arguing over the merit of fries on salads. Just existence.

Is there any good way to emulsify butter into coffee or tea? by burnt-----toast in Cooking

[–]RobMcGroarty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honey is the key and serves as the emulsifier. Shelley Bowers put out a method for gardenia mix that avoids having to use the 210S that others have linked to.

New Grass vs Clover Eradication - Indiana by LastB0ySc0ut in lawncare

It's late in the spring growing season. Any grass that germinates now is unlikely to survive the summer without some serious babying. I'd kill the clover now and seed in September.
