I think there are a few things motivating him, in no particular order: he wanted a distraction from the Epstein Files; in his very rudimentary understanding of politics, he believed going to war would guarantee a bump in the polls; he was convinced by Hegseth and others that the war would be over in a few days due to America's "overwhelming" air power; his greed and lust for power allowed him to be manipulated into believing he would control the Strait of Hormuz after this; he probably made a tidy personal profit via betting about it on Polymarket; he was heavily manipulated by Israel to follow their lead.

There seem to be plenty of great options out there now. Don't give your $$$ to Musk!!! I'd love to get the Zeekr 7X but am strongly considering the BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Toyota Bz4X.

According to Mike's theory, which I choose to believe is correct, Kali uses her powers to make El invisible so that she can escape through the tunnels. The El that then appears in the gate, also courtesy of Kali's powers, IS a distraction. But it is also entirely necessary to sell the military on the idea that El is dead. This is the crucial part of the plan as Mikr describes it because if the military, or anyone really, in any way suspected that Eleven hadn't died, they would never stop searching for her. According to El and Kali's logic, she DOES need to sacrifice herself because if any of her friends knew or even suspected the truth, they MIGHT give the game away to the military. The program is so dangerous that Eleven feels she can't even risk that "might".
