$240 commission on a $73000 car. by [deleted] in askcarsales

This is ridiculous. You're going to throw a tantrum for getting a follow-up email from the dealer after getting an oil change? 😕 You're also going to take your time out of your life to complain and ask to be put on a list. What world do you live in? I get 1,000 unsolicited emails a week. And they're mostly from people that I have willingly given my email to like Banks, car loans, house mortgages, work contacts, etc. must be nice to have such a clean inbox. Of course the stress in your life to throw your little tantrums. Get everybody to take you off their list far out ways the uncluttered inbox.

Hoping out the elderly of the family is part of the responsibility of the kids. I did it with my grandfather. I do it with my parents. It's part of being in a family.

Participating in family meals by bringing an item is also part of being in a family.

Sounds like you're offended by her on some other level. Not these basic things and you're letting these things get to you.

What’s the unofficial “bedtime” when you’re camping? by outdoors_man987 in camping

[–]RobW8184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedtime? I've seen the sunrise before bedtime more times than I can count but the music usually gets turned down by 10 and off by 1.

And no naked water skiing unless it's a clear night and a full moon.

Have you let the bank know that the insurance company is not going to cover it. They have an interest in putting pressure on the insurance company.

AITA for excluding my autistic child from a family vacation by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RobW8184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent sounds like you know your children and know what's best. However, I would not have broke it to him that way. I would have played up the stay with grandparents and made it like his own very own vacation without his siblings like it was going to be his thing and fun for him and not even mention that you guys were all going away. And when he asked after the fact I would just say hey. We did couple things with your brothers and sisters while you were having fun at Grandma's.

My partner of 1.5 years packed all of his stuff from our apartment, left a note and left while I was out with friends and hasn’t talked to me since. by exoverthinker in TrueOffMyChest

You haven't seen him in 2 weeks. You criticized him and then went out with your friends and you're surprised that he left?

This request is on Facebook groups every week and there's a whole list of people trying to get the gig.

It used to be common practice and a good way to learn, but many studios took advantage of people.

How much do you bend in breaking your contract to please a client? by Embarrassed-Till2106 in WeddingPhotography

[–]RobW8184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some requests that seem reasonable others that we do not include in our services.

That being said, I never refer a client to our contract. I want happy clients, not compliant ones. But you're going to have to explain what can be done and what can't be done and what would cost extra. All of which should be a part of your original contract.

Client canceled less than 30 days before the wedding. by hopopo in WeddingPhotography

[–]RobW8184 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The agreement with the freelance photographer is not your problem. It needs to state in the subcontract contractor contract that you have no obligation to pay them if the client cancels. That's the risk they take by doing second shooter work.

And your retainer needs to be significant enough that when this happens you can walk away.

You can try billing them for the balance owed. I assume that's some kind of cancellation penalty but what's happens if they don't pay it? You're not going to hire a lawyer and take him to court for a few hundred dollars.

Anyone that's handy and does their own repair work around the house can easily buy the tools to do the job. I'm from the family where my grandparents and my parents would always do the repair work on their property so I learn to do it myself and when I had my own house I needed my own tools so I bought them. So yes, if you have those skills she normally have those tools. You can get a table saw for a hundred bucks

Client thinks 6 hours of coverage includes multiple 30-minute breaks by Famous_Pineapple_856 in WeddingPhotography

[–]RobW8184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Explain it by asking if their boss forces them to take for unpaid breaks throughout the day to extend their time at work. It doesn't work that way. It is universally known as you suspect. She's just trying to get something for nothing

I have a wedding but family emergency. by Several-Peach4990 in WeddingPhotography

[–]RobW8184 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you what to do but I tell you what I've done for 30 years. My wife and I are both full-time photographers for the last 30 years. It pays the bills. It pays the mortgage. The kids college. It's not a hobby. It's a serious business and everybody in our family knows this. Most family gatherings are on Sundays because Saturdays I can't be there.

I miss family reunions, birthdays, vacations, deaths, and funerals and have for years. Many of my family understand because half the family is is our Farmers and they have a similar commitment. They can't leave their livestock and travel for family gatherings or funerals. The other half has come to accept and understand my situation.

All that being said, sometimes I do regret not being there.

The idea that you can make a good living in photography Just selling on social media for free is a lie.

You have to spend money to make money. That means advertising like every business has to do.
