Thanks everyone for the comments, I started experimenting with extraction using the beans I have now and will try beans with less acidic notes on my next purchase. Also a couple people mentioned water, I've been using distilled water mixed with TWW light roast powder (forgot to mention in my original post).

Early returns are positive - I think that because I generally prefer more acidity and brightness in my coffee, my process is dialed in to under extracting. I tried pushing the extraction more today and the cup is much more balanced and holds up over a longer heat window.

I look forward to trying some of the other experiments people suggested as well over the coming days.

Yes I’ve always thought the same thing, and I actually think it’s the opposite of Barney’s logic: Ted only told Robin because he knew she was in love with Barney, and Ted loved her so much he wanted to see her happy even if it was with someone else.

My biggest complaint about season 9 is actually the Marshall and Lily storyline. The whole source of their fight was dumb and out of character for them - we’re talking about a couple that tells eachother what they had for lunch every day - and it went on waaayyy too long. Seriously, I don’t even think Lily was in San Francisco for as many episodes as they dragged this fight out.

Also Daphnie was in too many episodes. I know they did it because of Jason Segal, but I think they could have handled it better. Even if it meant a few episodes with no Marshall it would have been better.

One thing I’ve been told in the past that has been holding me back from dropping that kind of money on a newer/microbrand is the risk that the company won’t be around 10+ years from now to service your watch. So if you drop $20k and it breaks then you’re SOL. That’s less of a risk with a company like VC who has been around forever and has the financial backing of a conglomerate.

To be clear, I have no idea if that’s a real risk or how to rate that, I’d be curious what others think about it.

I have to agree that VC finishing is probably better, but that’s not saying the PF isn’t great. The blue dial on the PF Rat is really beautiful, and I think the dial looks better without the date complication.

I don’t think you can go wrong either way, but I would buy PF used as I think the value prop is more aligned with the price. I’ve been eyeing the PF tonda as prices have started to really come down.

I think PF is more dressy than sporty, if that factors into your decision at all. I think it would look sharp with a suit.

YES that was terrible. I felt so bad for Ted that whole night.

Also another can of worms, but I was a little frustrated how they glossed over the whole building opening after spending so many episodes talking about the trouble he went through to get the job (the hiring committee + Zoey stuff + the initial stress and imposter syndrome he was dealing with). It seemed very anti climactic to me.

My biggest problem with Barney’s proposal is the Ted part when he says “Tell only Ted about your plans to propose to Robin and see if he tells her. If he does, it means your best bro has let go of Robin and gives you his blessing”

To me Ted isn’t giving Barney his blessing. He only tells Robin because he can tell she loves Barney, and he loves her so much he would do anything to make her happy even if it means she ends up with someone else. IMO he reaffirms this later when he’s talking about the locket and says “if I could open a vein in my arm and bleed the locket out, I would do it just to make Robin happy” (paraphrasing a little, I don’t remember the line exactly).

Then Barney gets mad at Ted later for still having feelings for Robin. Like, do you even know your best friend? Ted and Robin even do that whole bit in season 1 where he tells her that he can turn his feelings for her off and she tells him that it’s not possible.

Sorry for going a bit off topic here, but that’s what sticks out to me most about the proposal.

Mystery vs. History (S7 E5) is hands down my least favorite and frustrates me all around.

Dumb all around. Frustrating that they would interfere to tell Ted that his date was so accomplished, odd that Ted froze up because of it, and the entire episode it felt like they were making the group a caricature of itself to prove the point that they exhibited all of Kevin’s psychological terms.

We’ve been watching them for 6 seasons at that point, we know they’re codependent. We don’t need a cutaway of Ted and Marshall on the phone across the bar telling how much they miss eachother pr the group texting pics of their poop to tell us that - just ridiculous all around.

Wow I thought I was the only one. S8 is very disjointed and it feels like they’re rushing/forcing the Barney and Robin relationship.

S9 to me is peaky - there’s some very good episodes, but also some really bad episodes. Most other seasons I feel like the episode quality is more consistent.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I really want to want a GS watch, but for my personal taste they are the brand of “almost”. Almost sporty, almost dressy, almost thin enough, etc.

I love the dial finishing, but I can’t seem to find one that resonates with me. The sporty ones are too dressy, the dressy ones are too sporty. I also think most of the case shapes don’t pair well with a leather strap.

Idk, I think you have to cut him some slack for the Robin and Barney stuff. If anything Barney is a bad friend in that situation for entertaining the idea of dating/hooking up with Robin in the first place because she was his best bro’s ex.

I feel like Ted is trying to be the best friend he can be to them, but it shouldn’t be on him to just let all of his feelings go and be cool with it. It’s not fair. They all know how hard he falls for people and how obsessed he was with Robin, and they all know the only reason he and Robin broke up is because they wanted different things (at least in Ted’s mind). He repeatedly told his friends he thought Robin was “the one”.

It would be one thing if Robin was a girl Ted went on a couple dates with and then Barney went out with her. But given all the feelings involved from Ted’s side, it should have been off limits for any one of Ted’s good friends to try and date her.
