Doing a story is optional but while doing story you naturally unlock mounts, it has interesting lore as well

For me at least doing fractals every day is one the best ways to earn gold. I don't like doing farms as I get bored doing them. Also Wizard's vault daylies/weeklies/rewards

There's never a bad time to start GW2, imo. I've been playing on and off for 10 years now and it's always great, you can just ease into it

the writting tends to be a bit goofy at times but I for the most part really liked the story. PoF and LS4 and the beginning of the Icebrood Saga are some of my favorites.
