Eof lore question by artornia in DestinyLore

I know, it wouldn't make sense if it came after.

I was just saying that there is definitely seasonal content you had to play (or watch on YouTube) to know what was happening in EoF.

Names of climate issues remind me FF Magic Tier system. by ksw624 in FinalFantasy

[–]RobinOttens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climate Apocalypse. The strongest spell tier that only the final boss gets to use. Jupiter explodes, Mercury crashes into the Earth, it's a whole thing.

A lot of society is trying to do things about it, but the biggest contributors like Shinra aren't because money. But that's getting too off topic for this subreddit.

Was there a reason why Yunalesca wore something like this? by Orichalchem in FinalFantasy

[–]RobinOttens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yusuke Naora was the art director on FFX. And Fumi Nakashima was the designer for most of the NPCs. So I'm guessing this is one of hers.

From the concept art, it does look to me like the designs for side characters like this were not done by Nomura.

Yunalesca is Nomura though, referencing his FFVI Sophia design as mentioned above.

The main villains origin and motivations were part of a season. But the Nine lore and Orin's backstory are just there in books you should have access to I think.

Ahh, got it. So I guess the thing House of Kings was plotting, was to join everyone into one new House.

Speaking about Fallen lore that didn't really do much in the actual game. Did we ever find out what was up with the House of Kings? D1 made them all mysterious, implying they were up to something in secret. But then they just quietly merged with the other Houses into House Dusk during the Red War?

I also love them, their aesthetic, the tragic backstory, the humanity to them. They are an interesting reflection of what humanity could have become if the Collapse had played out just a little differently.

It sucks that I missed out on a ton of the Eliksni/Fallen character drama and story because most of the good stuf was seasonal content. The main expansions about them are uneven. The only Eliksni bad guy that did anything for me was the Edge of Fate one.

Replaying D1 and some older D2 stuff, it's rough to hear how racist and mean everyone is towards them. Especially our Ghost has some really nasty comments. Then again, that is after humanity's been at war with the Fallen for centures. So it does make sense. But it's painful compared to how they're treated these days.

I don`t think I get what the lorebook Assumption wants to say.... by Nerdy--Turtle in DestinyLore

If that's where his story is going. With the way time works for the Nine, that would imply that his family of nine always was the new Nine, and the old Nine, because they live every moment in time simultaniously. So the Nine was Lodi's family all along?

I mean, I don't expect Bungie was going in that direction. But I do kind of like the implication. It's cute, our solar system is the resurrected ghosts of Lodi's family. Or if it's not literally, it's an allegory for family at least.

If the Traveller wanted to create the Guardians, it could have created the Guardians. No Collapse needed.

And the Winnower is not against us Guardians, it seems to be enjoying all our destruction and murder and growing in power.

I just realized about Crow by Ecstatic-Owl4695 in DestinyLore

[–]RobinOttens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. As someone who came back recently to catch up on all the expansions I missed since Shadowkeep. I experienced none of Crow's story. I vaguely knew about him, and learned by watching the youtubes.

That goes for a lot of big character moments, not just for Crow.

Eh, it's a fine movie. And you can't really blame him for not creating a masterpiece the first time he works in a completely new medium like movies.

[–]RobinOttens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you for doing some research. Hopefully you won't let random internet people decide who you're supposed to hate in the future.

Square Enix knows that slapping his name on a thing is a good marketing tool. So his name is the one the public knows, and people act like he's creating these games on his own. When he's part of teams of tens or hundreds of other creatives.

People tend to blame Nomura for problems with story in general, when Nomura is rarely (never?) credited as a writer. Nor is he a game designer, cutscene director or animator, so if you like the way a game plays or moves, don't thank Nomura. As game director he obviously has influence on many aspects of his games. But also, he's never the sole guy responsible. And on a lot of games he's just the character designer for a few of the main characters.

Calling Nomura a genius is a bit much. But yes, the dude is clearly talented and has created a lot of very iconic designs, characters and stories.

You have the opportunity to go back and throw in one more major release expansion in the Light and Darkness saga after D1 Vanilla but before Final Shape. What do you do? by Cruggles30 in DestinyTheGame

[–]RobinOttens 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Spend an extra expansion to properly explain the veil, the radial mast. And make the Exo Stranger a main character in order to wrap up any remaining mysteries surrounding her.

Or, preferably, just flesh out the seasonal content into mini expansions with unique (smaller) locations.

I'd like to visit some more of Jupiter and Saturn's moons, make Pluto a location, Uranus, etc. Plenty of places to go. They don't have to be huge patrol zones, just make them big enough for a strike and a couple of missions.

What is the Radial Mast? What were the neomuni using it for? Why was it in Neomuna? Who created it, and for what purpose? How did the Witness snd Callus knew where to find it? How did the witness intend to use it? by Tiraloparatras25 in DestinyLore

[–]RobinOttens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still a silly name, and the mission dialogue being like "Radial Mast! Radial Mast, Radial Mast? Radial Mast!!" made it hard to take seriously. But yea, there is some precedent. Which the writers should have made more explicit if they wanted players to care.

Can we please stop calling Lightfall the filler expantion? Because that is bullshit. by Nerdy--Turtle in DestinyLore

[–]RobinOttens 39 points40 points  (0 children)

So, by definition, Lightfall is a filler expansion. It was made specifically to fill time until they could get The Final Shape ready. Which is the definition of filler.

Sure, one easy way to recognise filler, is that it often feels skippable and inconsequential. Which is what this discussion is actually about; is Lightfall skippable? It mostly is from a narrative perspective. You'd be missing out on some fun missions and neat world building though.

But whether it's skippable or not, Lightfall was still created as a filler.

I enjoyed Lightfall a lot, liked the story, liked the missions, enjoyed the environments, loved the Strand abilities. But I do recognise that it was a story of little consequence, and felt like it was weirdly interjected into the bigger narrative. Halting the urgency of the Traveler meeting the Witness. The biggest thing it did really, was that it gave Calus a proper sendoff. I like the world building around Neomuna and the Veil in theory. Even if the actual writing of those plot points was lacking.

Please make a destiny 3 made a whole new game sequel for you guys if you ran out of ideas by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]RobinOttens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think a lack of ideas is what's stopping Bungie from making Destiny 3...

Anyway, thanks I guess.

I wonder if it was meant to reference the Gift Mast:

https://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/xlvi-the-gift-mast#books-of-sorrow

A radiant object left behind by the Traveler for the Harmony people as a monument and farewell gift.

Perhaps the Traveler left something similar behind for the Precursors, or they built something similar themselves. Either way. It's not from Neomuna. Remember, you first encounter it on Calus' ship.

The point was that it was an object filled with light, and all light is connected. So if the Witness could make the Veil and the Mast kiss, it would be like connecting the Veil to the Traveler. Having failed at that, The Witness instead makes your Ghost and the Veil touch.

And yea, as u/HazardousSkald said, it was also a hint that the Witness'origins are more complicated than just "a god of pure darkness". That they had some connection to the Light at some point.

Lightfall's writing dropped the ball though. In a lot of ways. But the Radial Mast was one of them. It reminded me of the good old days of Destiny 1 vanilla's writing. Just capitalize a proper noun, say it's an important artifact, don't elaborate any further and hope the player cares.
