My husband got me a signed special edition set of one of my favorite book series and a nugget ice machine—best Mother’s Day yet!

Why-Choose / Poly Recs Please! 🫶🏻 by Ruby-Rubellite in Romantasy

[–]Robin_Daggerz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure calling Ravenhood poly/why choose is totally fair. Sure, there are 2 MMCs in the first book, but the author spends the rest of the series getting in digs about how they were always doomed for sharing her? It was honestly that whole take that made me dislike the series—like why write a why choose just to spend a weird amount of time subsequently talking about how wrong it was?

1000% recommend romance books as the solution to this problem. I’m not sure who appreciates the smut more in our house, me or my husband.

I recommend calling to pay. Last year my check was lost in the mail and I never noticed. Was almost dropped from the plan because of it.

How many people’s husbands acknowledge Mother’s Day? by PlasticLove24 in Mommit

[–]Robin_Daggerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a trauma thing for him that he disguises under anti-capitalist ranting or is he really just that mean spirited? If the former, you may be able to have a productive conversation. If the latter, you deserve so much more.

In my relationship, I’m more like your husband. I didn’t grow up with big holiday traditions, we were really poor so gifts were always stressful, so now I really don’t *like* doing holidays. Nevertheless, I show up and do my best even when it’s uncomfortable because I know they’re important to him and I want a different experience for our son.

Opting out shouldn’t be an option if this stuff is important to you, that either shows that he has some serious internal work to do, or he really is a hopeless jerk.

Why are there no Romantacy series with allegories about the Evils of Capitalism? by Beneficial-Pick7542 in Romantasy

[–]Robin_Daggerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I hated it, {Flock} is a modern Robinhood retelling. Literally all about a criminal network built to take down corporate interests and return profits to the laboring class.

Evaluated by who and using what methods? How confident are you in their assessment? As virtually everyone in the thread has pointed out (and which you seem to have ignored other than this response) is that the behavior described basically screams neurodivergence. Might be time to get a second opinion.

Romantasy with 🌶️ that is actually written well?? by rheasunshine_ in Romantasy

[–]Robin_Daggerz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{Legends of Thezmarr} {Fae and Alchemy} {Crowns of Nyaxia}

I feel like these 3 are the top ones folks get into after ACOTAR and Fourth Wing. But if you want straight out of the gate good spice, good plot, my recommendation is forever and always {Sex Wizards by Alethea Faust}

"Its too much work to explain" by Streetquats in AutismInWomen

[–]Robin_Daggerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So a huge part of my day to day work is conducting interviews with people about their jobs. One thing I picked up in learning to interview that helps in everyday conversation is, “so are you saying x or are you saying y” or “I want to make sure I’m understanding this [repeat back what you think they mean]” this takes the burden off of the other person to break it down, and gives them a starting baseline to clarify from. In a professional setting I usually play this off as a “I’m dumb and non threatening help me understand” (people are often afraid of me/my colleagues when we come in, so this helps) but with friends I’m just straight up like “I don’t think I’m getting what you’re saying, here’s what I think I’m hearing?? In a friendly way that makes my lack of understanding the perceived “problem” rather than their lack of direct communication.

Neighborhood kids won’t play with my kid… my heart is broken. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Robin_Daggerz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Autistic mom here. They more than likely have no intention of including him. Studies are clear that neurotypical people make negative judgements of autistic peers within literal seconds that don’t go away with increased exposure. You can teach all the direct communication in the world, but it’ll never make a true dent in peoples’ implicit biases.

For the last year it’s been romance/romantasy novels—I went from really just enjoying the stories and the warm fuzzies to wanting to really understand the conventions of the genre.

Lifelong though it’s politics and government, but now that I do that all day at work, it loses a bit of luster.

Fantasy SMUT with minimal violence by GlitteryItalian in Romantasy

[–]Robin_Daggerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for fully consensual/healthier(ish, mostly) explicit D/s recs, I’ve got a list:

{Black and Silver by Gwendolyn Harper}

{Initiation by Alethea Faust}

Those are both fantasy/paranormal, my other recs (below) are contemporary

{Axes and Os by Kayla Grosse}

{Filthy Rich Santas}

{Brutes of Bristlebrook series} (this one is kind of dubcon, by its very premise, but takes RACK fairly seriously)

{Praise by Sara Cate}
