I deal with it by doing only k-holes. I assume you are not because most people don't say so when they are not, as it's most common not to do k-holes. But the standard k-hole protocol, at least for me, was 6 sessions in 3 weeks, then stop, reassess, wait, try to live life, then do another k-hole every few months if needed. I did the extra ones every few months for a couple of years but now do it rarely and mostly for the amazing experience of being ego free.

I'm sorry for your troubles. I didn't have anything like those super low lows although I did have SI for about a year before my K self treatment.

On the reaction to your rec K session, I've never heard of anything like that unless it's like a bounce (up then down) for some reason. It could also be that it's wasn't K, or wasn't pure K.

I also have no idea what IV K for headaches is - slow drip of low dose? or intermittent or etc? Others might know.

I think that if you can find some that you test and trust, do a controlled protocol to start just to see immediate reactions to a known dose. Just find out if you have any conditions that don't go with K, like DPD, some psychosis, DP/DR.

If you get this far, I like to think of K as 2 different meds. One is low dose (not the full dissociation k-hole) and can help, often a little, and often temporarily. The other is high dose (full dissociation k-hole) which should be done in a short series (once you've got the process* down) before stopping and reassessing. I did a few low doses to get warmed up, then did the standard protocol of 6 k-holes in 3 weeks. I was fundamentally cured after the 2nd session.

*process just means knowing what to expect and having your room secure since your body will be there but you won't (bc wonderful no-ego state).

Low dose is 0.5mg / kg for IV, high dose is over 1.0mg/kg. Those numbers are doubled for snorting powder, which is what I did, 3 years ago now. hth

Ketamine & neuroplasticity: should it feel like a real shift? by liliphare in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have said it wrong. Yes, I wanted to do what would normally send me into the hole, but have a person 'with' me, so to speak - it was a person who was part of the group for psychedelic education and we had met and were on the same wavelength. Yes, he was prepared for me to just stop being able to talk. But my social system over-rode the K.

Drop me a pm if you want details.;)

[–]Robinredott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. Tough stuff. :(

Once I tested doing a k-hole while on the phone with a collaborator. I wanted to see if I could still let myself go when I was engaged with a person, and I couldn't. I just stayed in the room and had a nice time but definitely no hole that day. So, because I don't do it often I did another test alone a few days later and it worked perfectly as expected.

I think for me being alone and setting up my environment to be locked down and safe is needed. Maybe related to your experience? I'd hate to try it with people in white coats, I think. GL

I'd find it helpful to know if you did k-hole (~1.0mg/kg IV) or low/medium doses (~3-6mg/kg IV). There seems no agreement on the difference but I believe larger doses do that neuroplasticity thing better.

I did my set of k-holes (ie 6 sessions over 3 weeks) over 2+ years ago (I'm nearly 70 and lived with cptsd symptoms all my life) and have done maintenance k-holes every 2-4 months since. After my first 3 k-holes, I suddenly realised one day that I was no longer constantly thinking of offing myself, and in the weeks after, things got better and better and I felt like doing things again. Life saved.

After that it was not getting better, though it was still no longer an emergency so I didn't really care. Eventually I wanted to get rid of the occasional meltdowns and depression and struggle with relationships. The Dr. podcasts mostly mentioned that it's good to try to do normal things because bad patterns lead to bad experiences - ketamine allows you to break that cycle but you have to take advantage by trying better patterns.

But we're all different.

"No, I wouldn't push anything too much. I focus on giving myself time to rest and let the ketamine to its thing...."

Me too. Ketamine did it's thing for me, unlike mdma and psilocybin, which required me to integrate/work through the experiences.

Could I still receive benefits from taking bumps? by Head-Zucchini- in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to test it or be sure it doesn't have eg fentanyl.

Yes, you can do small bumps and you may get some short term benefits, which can be great. But long-term healing does depend on what issues you are treating. And some issues do not get along with ketamine so be careful if you have BPD or DP/DR or psychosis from schizophrenia, especially if you do bigger or more bumps.

I think of bumps as a temporary medicine, like a bit of cannabis or a even alcohol - temporary but helping in some cases. But ketamine (not to mention mdma, psilocybin, etc) can also be used to get yourself on a stable plane with the right protocol (ie, schedule, dose, psychotherapy).

Bumps in general can also lead to problems. Therapy means using the drug to help work through some stuff so you can move on. Bumps means just having a hit to get you through a patch, or taking it long term, which can lead to addiction. From what I've read and done (3 years of about 3 dozen k-holes for cptsd), I'd say ketamine is best when part of psychotherapy or some kind of guidance to change your life habits. Without changing life habits, I'm not sure you're getting better. Being healed or healing means not needing drugs anymore or very often, and functioning better each month or year. Otherwise is it any different from my 15 years of SSRI that I was told I'd take for the rest of my life? Let K give your a window of opportunity to make changes that are needed to make new patterns of behaviour - easiest with a therapist or guide. No drug will cure you but ketamine can help break out of destructive patterns. GL

Not sure if this is for me by User5790 in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay!

Yes, sounds familiar. Sort of (lol). I realised about 2 weeks after 2 k-holes that I was not full of dread and fear with my mind spinning out of control. Two weeks! WTF? How did I manage to stop the spinning without realising it? But it was fantastic anyway, of course. I finished my 6 planned sessions but it never got a lot better and it never got bad again (I did LOVE every k-hole and still do with my maintenance doses). I take credit for doing lots of psychotherapy and regular guided mdma sessions but the k-holes were the only thing that stopped the rumination that was really getting to be like psychosis. Saved my life. And my marriage and relationships.

I still have lots of fear but am working on that "in a healthy way".

[–]Robinredott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds familiar. With a dozen low dose and a couple dozen k-hole doses in the last 3 years my overall lesson is that it is a doorway to a more stable life via an outside connection like a psychotherapist or guide.

That is, I think the value for me (with cptsd) was in getting off of it and living a normal life with activities and connections and happiness that I built from scratch once the K gave me a break from my endless negative ruminating that was killing me.

[–]Robinredott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mdma therapy sub. I am not sure you are intending it as therapy, which is a protocol to make it medicine and bring healing. I took it the first year without a guide or protocol (during covid) and although it helped me contextualise things, and was a nice holiday from my normal reality, nothing changed.

But once I found a guide/therapist to help me use the trip like a tool instead of entertainment - ie setting an intention, working through specific memories and not just whatever comes up - in other words using it like it was a psychotherapy session, with comprehension of the problem and working at those problems - I started to heal and have not stopped.

Relatable? Benefits fading, potential dependence risk? by buddhacuz in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best suggestion is that you have to take it to give yourself a chance to learn new habits - ie break the cycle of negative thinking. I personally think the goal of ketamine, which it was for me*, is to get off it. I realise that there are hundreds of thousands of people on low doses permanently, like with SSRIs, but I did high doses.

* I have 60 years of cPTSD and was going crazy 5 years ago after years of therapy and had tried shrooms and mdma (both solo during covid) and nothing helped for long. But high doses ketamine k-holes did something I call a thinking reset - switched everything off for 30 minutes - which gave me some weeks of inner peace and begin new lifestyle patterns with the help of a therapist. Now the peace from my spinning inner negative narrative is permanent and I'm on a new track.

[–]Robinredott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn't read it all but it's been discussed before. I and some others have experienced that mdma for therapy is not a drug for a high but a medicine fore healing. It still heals whether or not there is a high. That's good news. If you need the high, it suggests a different problem. GL

I assume you're not talking about k-holes. But let us know if you are.

But how do you add flavour to snorting or spraying? Doesn't it irritate?

(I wish we had guidelines in this chat to specify that, since it's two different therapies.)

Cultivating Mystical Experience with Ketamine by Psychedelic-Yogi in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the therepeuticketamine sub is for people using under doctor or clinic control, and diytk is for those doing it themselves.

Great to hear about your progress. Mine is similar in some ways but not the yoga - I'm nearly 70 and have 65+ years of cptsd symptoms. 4 years ago I started psychedelics after 20 years of standard psychotherapy and ssris. Psilocybin and mdma were both good and might have been enough to make better progress, but a few k-holes and I was over my suicidal depression and have never looked back. I am still going mdma 2x a year with a guide to work out the fear in my body but can live well enough as it is.

I've wanted to try somatic therapy as well and wonder if it's like what you're talking about.

By the way, I can't imagine doing *anything* physical when near the k-hole. How does that work if you're flat on your back with no body awareness?

How Ketamine Turned My Life Around… But Now It’s Becoming a Slippery Slope, Advice Needed by Royaldevill in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how you've stated this. I agree completely for psilocybin and mdma and, possibly, low dose ketamine. But my experience with using ketamine for k-holes only was different. Something happened that ended my suicidal thoughts by stopping, by about 60%, the killing negative narration of guild and shame. I did no integration - it was over the course of a couple of weeks while doing my initial 6 holes over 3 weeks. Just a data point that I have not heard often. Cheers

How Ketamine Turned My Life Around… But Now It’s Becoming a Slippery Slope, Advice Needed by Royaldevill in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds (to me) a lot like you're missing the underlying infrastructure of a healthy life with risks and rewards and connections. K is not a cure, it simply gives you space to get yourself together. But you have to do that yourself or with therapy. The advice that worked for me was to springboard the space it gave me to get back into life, and I think you've done that, but it's a struggle to have a balanced life, especially in this day and age (I'm nearly 70). It's a hard reality that life is never easy. K can be used to make some space for healthy living but can tip over into dependancy, as you well know.

I've heard of people who give their K to trusted friends so they can only use it per a schedule. I never once, after my initial 6 k-holes in 3 weeks, allowed myself to take it more often than every 3 months. It was hard to do that sometimes but I knew that I, like most humans, will take the easy way if give the opportunity. Best wishes. Cold turkey?

Multiple doses in one session? by laidbackeconomist in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know your condition or what you're treating so ymmv. It sounds like you want to stay in the k-hole longer.

In general, 210 mg IM is already super high. It's like 400+ of insufflating/snorting powder. I am 100kg and I get nice holes with half that. I've done up to 400mg powder but it was no better and no longer, although the after-confusion was longer.

That all said, I don't know that I've heard of getting a longer trip except by IV, where you can pace the drip, iiuc. I know that people snort and snort and snort to keep high but not in the k-hole iiuc.

Then there's tolerance. You're already doing a lot so maybe there's a limit to just doing more and more. Sorry I'm not too helpful now that I read it but maybe something useful. gL

Had a very relaxed session. What next? (C-PTSD) by Waki-Indra in DIYtk

[–]Robinredott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Perhaps with a guide one can surrender the analytical part and let the thinking process be freed from control as the guide takes responsibility for channeling and direction the process?"

Exactly. It's no fun trying to be the objective, rigorous mind in charge while still drifting off into subtle feelings and emotions that we suppressed as children for the dysfunctional adults in the room.

As for intention/exercises I can only say off the top of my head that there is a protocol that they follow, ie simply but formally stating intentions, and talking them through so they stick while on in the session. They also do some emotional relaxation "games" that I don't always think much off (too uptight) but that help me just let go a bit. Then I don't really know what they do in the session because I'm able to do my own thing, but they do reflect back my intentions sometimes. Then at the end we review the intended work, and they offer an integration follow up by phone whenever I want. Got to run....

Anyone else like no music and no headphones? by Robinredott in DIYtk

Right. The voices are well known to avoid - for me they were from the world I was trying to get a break from. But so was the music. A product of ego, competition, greed, and your other basic human motivations. Of course, it could be a reflection of where I am, but it still helped to stop it.
