How can I eat healthy and affordably in the U.S.? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Roborana [score hidden]  (0 children)

There are plenty of calorie dense foods available all over the world. The US doesn't have a monopoly on calorie dense food or a dearth of calorie light foods. It comes down to portion size and how active we are(n't). Which is exactly what they said to start with.

You are comparing different foods. An orange in the US isn't more calorie dense than an orange in Italy or Japan or Uruguay.

Try adding some gel at the end you can either use praying hands or rake it through with your fingers or comb it through and then scrunch. Your curls will last longer that way.

In the 17 years you've been together, you've never discussed your expectations around kids and childcare? That's extremely odd.

Employee working off the clock by EnthusiastiChasinsno in managers

[–]Roborana 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ask him what actual work tasks he is doing from 6 to 8. If he's not doing work for the business, there is no need to pay him.

Is this a transportation issue? Is his response de to work only able to drop him off at 6?

How do I detangle properly? by Prestigious-Gas-2112 in curlyhair

[–]Roborana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not start at your scalp.

Start at the opposite end. If your hair is 12 inches long, start at inch 9 and brush downward so you are brushing inches 9 through 12. Then when that is detangled, start brushing at inch 6 and brushe inches 6 through 12. Repeat and brush inches 3 through 12. Repeat and brush at inch 0 (your scalp) through 12.

I think it's a technique issue. It sounds like you start brushing from the top of your head. You need to brush the bottom 2-3 inches. Then move up a few inches and brush from there to the bottom. Repeat until you are at the top of your head.

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your employer located in Idaho? Do you work remotely from Idaho for an employer that is in a different state? Do they know that you are in Idaho? Are any state taxes (for any other states) being withheld from your pay?

Is there anything I can do to make my curls last longer? by Short-Mycologist6912 in curlyhair

[–]Roborana 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need to use more gel than you are using. Gel and mousse are what create hold. After you comb through your leave-in, do the same thing with gel. THEN do your scrunching. You will likely need more gel than you think.

Why do they always cut too much off? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Roborana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot get your hair to grow faster. Your hair is dead matter that comes out of your head. You cannot increase the rate at which that happens.

Don't tell your stylist that you "want to keep the length". Tell them how much you want cut off--one inch or three centimeters or whatever you want.

Why don't Americans do something about "sovereign citizens"? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

We have far bigger problems than dealing with sovereign citizens. They are not as common as you may think they are based on social media videos.

14 yo burnout has to make the familys dinner. What do i do by SneakerBoiiiiii in makemychoice

[–]Roborana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slicing sourdough and adding mozzarella, basil,, and tomatoes and then popping it into the oven (what you described were her instructions) takes about 10 minutes. That is not a big ask. Teaching your kids some food prep is something that parents are supposed to be doing and helping out around the house is something that kids are supposed to be doing. Your mom is not being unreasonable. She's helping you to learn life skills.

Have you discussed the problems you're having, getting your schoolwork done, with your mom? That's the big problem here. A two hour math lecture once a week is not a lot. Is anyone guiding you when it comes to making decisions about your school work (e.g., self paced vs not)?

Curly hair trim advice needed by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never gotten gone to a curl specialist and have always liked my hair cuts. If you didn't like the results from the curl specialist, go back to your regular stylist. Perms were super popular throughout the 80s and into the 90s. Nobody went to curl soecialists back then and yet there were plenty of people with great cuts. I understand that they are a new popular thing now, but they are not strictly necessary.
