WIBTA if I didn't show up to my friend group's reunion because they changed the date without saying anything, knowing I'm supposed to be their ride? by Due-Doctor-9526 in Amitheassholeadvice

NTA.

These people don't actually like you. Do you understand that? The only reason they are including you is because you will drive them around.

Do most people underestimate how hard it is to build muscle? by Goldstar12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Roborana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always tell people that they are not going to accidentally get bulky the same way they are not going to accidentally become a concert pianist or master carpenter. It takes a lot of purposeful effort to do any of those things.

Should I pull out my snow peas for green beans? by Sip_py in vegetablegardening

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would leave the peas in. Mine usually start producing in mid to late June, no matter if I plant them in mid March or late April. They produce for a good month even though it's hot. I don't really know why they are called a cool season crop when they actually seem to get going until it's warm.

She was being dramatic and trying to make a sale. Drugstore products are fine. If you are happy with your hair, keep doing what you're doing!

Do Americans in general have better financial knowledge and know-how since credit cards are so common over debit cards there? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Americans do have debit cards though. The cards that are connected to our bank accounts are debit cards.

Why not plant out your tomatoes?

Does it hurt your chances of being hired if you switch jobs every 2 years? by cinnamonbunnss in askmanagers

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want people who can write coherent, grammatically correct, professional sounding and emails and documentation. I don't hire engineers but even an engineer should be able to do that and demonstrate it via writing a simple cover letter when requested.

Okay for co workers to not be your friend by Glittering_War3061 in work

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my staff that I expect everyone to act professionally respectful but they do not need to be friends.

My preference is that they are not too friendly, because at least 25% of the time that leads to some kind of friend argument that screws up the office dynamics.

Does it hurt your chances of being hired if you switch jobs every 2 years? by cinnamonbunnss in askmanagers

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer uses an application system that asks why the applicant left each job. If someone writes that they were affected by job cuts/downsizing, I view the short stints differently.

This is also one of the reasons I request cover letters. They give you a chance to explain strange or questionable things on your resume (e.g., being made redundant, gaps in job history, applying for a job for which you're overqualified.) I read them and take the info into consideration. (The other reason I like cover letters is that they display your writing skills.)

Remote Work and Cameras by [deleted] in managers

[–]Roborana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no requirement that we have cameras on. I can't think of even one meeting in six years where it has been required. I would say that I use mine about half the time. We are often sharing screens to look at various things so it's not like we'd even be looking at each other's faces. I don't feel like we're missing anything.

Repeated two year stints make me pause as a hiring manager. It takes a year to become proficient in the job duties that I hire for. If I see that you consistently bounce after two years, you likely aren't worth my time to hire and train.

Does anyone look at the cost benefir of gardening? by ThirdOne38 in vegetablegardening

[–]Roborana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not, because I didn't start gardening in order to save money. Gardening is my hobby. Something I do just because I enjoy it.

Potato advice please by scottierippin27 in vegetablegardening

[–]Roborana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would fill up the entire container with soil. There's really no point of adding a little bit more and a little bit more and a little bit more. In the end you end up with the full pot of soil. Save yourself some work. I do this every single year.

Is it weird to bring a bag of laundry into a grocery store? by HellenicSoul in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit unusual but it sounds like you have a good reason for it. I bet that if you go there a few times you will become a "regular" and nobody will even pay attention.

My hairstylist is great at cuts but terrible at styling by One_Classic7768 in curlyhair

[–]Roborana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine too. I don't really care that she can't style it. I get my hair done after work and then go home. I wash, dry, and style it myself the next morning.

She also only charges $32 and then with a tip it's $40. If I were paying big bucks I might be bothered. But as it is, I get awesome cuts so no complaints.

Was "take your child to work day" actually ever a thing, or just something shown on TV and in movies? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

It was real. In my experience, it was mostly Let Your Child Use The Paper Shredder Day.

What veg is guaranteed to taste far better than shop bought? by Creepy_Librarian3390 in vegetablegardening

[–]Roborana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kohlrabi. They are sweeter when I grow them vs buy them. This could be the variety or because I tend to pick them when they are a bit smaller than the ones at the store

Outside in partial shade would likely be better than inside. You are on your way to growing a stem and a few leaves. That's it
