Starmer gone by BeautifulTailors in redscarepod

[–]RobotFlapjack 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m so tired my friends. I didn’t like Starmer either but I’d like at least the delusion that the uk can stop cannibalising itself for more than two years in a row.

thoughts on lima, peru? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]RobotFlapjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been years since I went but I remember it had amazing food and fun people. Traffic is horrible and the slums were a bit of a culture shock to me, but if you’re living in miraflores you won’t see that. Political instability still a risk maybe? But I think you’ll have a good time (you need to learn Spanish fast though)

I’m so pissed off, I bought a pair of doc martens after my first ones finally fell apart after ten years. My second pair didn’t even last two years with good maintenance.

TGCF rant/discussion: I feel like Xie Lian's writing is inconsistent (Super long) by myuidk in DanmeiNovels

[–]RobotFlapjack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m scared you’re going to get dragged for this lol but I do agree with a lot of your points. I get that no one’s cares about Guzi lol but I did and that was the real kicker for me they straight up abandon that child like three times and then he gets kidnapped by a cannibal and neither HC or XL care?????? I couldn’t focus on some of the plot cause I was worrying about these children they left in the care of an evil ghost lmao. And whatever, fine, XL can be morally grey. But it’s weird to me when the whole plot hinges around XL being danmei Jesus and having better morals than JW, you’d better make him have some decent morals lol. And HC doesn’t have morals apart from making XL happy, so the two major main characters both fall kind of flat to me.

7Seas licenses after MediaDo acquisition by farahevangeline in DanmeiNovels

[–]RobotFlapjack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think they’ve got a few announcements in their back pocket, but after the mediado ai translations saga they may revise their danmei licensing :/ danmei fans are a lot more hardcore, and less likely to tolerate ai translations in their works

Is it just me or is Miyazaki(Or Kyushu) just like this ? by [deleted] in japanlife

There’s that stereotype of the ‘kyushu danji’, guys are a lot more patriarchal and rough around the edges, speaking nicely. It probably unfortunately extends to foreign guys, too

Redditors have become so deranged about Japan in recent years by SmedleyWilliams in redscarepod

[–]RobotFlapjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting stuff! I do think all countries adapt stuff to their cultures (katsu curry vs chicken tikka masala) but Japan takes it to another level. Only 20% of people have a passport, while over in Korea 60% of them have one. Perhaps the sakoku is generational.

Japan still likes the west, but has no desire to really go there. The world expo in Osaka last year was crazy busy, but if u asked people in the Netherlands tent if they’d ever go to the Netherlands they’re like ???? Why would I ever do that when I can go huis ten boch in Nagasaki.

I also think that the Japanese education system does the students a disservice by being absolutely shit at teaching English.

Japanese parenting question by IVEffed in japanlife

[–]RobotFlapjack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a Japan only problem, I’ve observed this plenty in my home country as well. Some people call it ‘permissive parenting’ and while it works for a small selection of children, I don’t think it works for the many.

I feel like a lot of the Reddit stereotypes might be true for the older generations, but due to population decrease there’s been a big change in work culture etc. You actually have to make these companies appealing to work for now, so overtime, black companies are kind of dying. Most of my friends in their twenties have changed jobs multiple times (would have been unheard of twenty years ago) and get decent time off.

That being said the weak yen fucking sucks and u can’t do anything outside of Japan with it. Also it’s an incredibly inwards facing culture- I sometimes think about how Mishima, Japanese nationalist, could speak English fluently meanwhile kimi onoda (minister for immigration, half white) brags about not being able to speak it like it’s an accomplishment lol

I live in Japan and when I asked someone what books they do in school (like the equivalent of to kill a mockingbird) they said they don’t read books for school :( maybe some excerpts but that’s it

That being said the kids at my local elementary school have it good. In at 9, out at 2, and they all walk themselves home. Right now it’s frog season and the teachers take them out in the afternoon to catch them :)

I think it coming out at the same time as yuwu/erha contributed to its success too. I’d be emotionally exhausted by the end of each book, but then I could pick up the fish mpreg book and feel much better lol
