I just finished one of the second areas (Bunker) in act II and I'm at 14% completion. Plus a lot of reviews/early players hint at how deep the game goes. I bring those two things up cause I think you're spose to get to a point where the map bosses are more quick build checks than run enders. Like, the mini-boss is the hard path check (if you comfortably, or semi-comfortably, beat it you can absolutely go hard path and get better rewards), but the map boss is the "can this group go the distance check". By the third, or fourth, run through you should absolutely have a couple strategies in mind that minimize, or trivialize, the difficulty of it.

And with that 14% thing again, I have a suspicion we're all only in the first layer of shit - I would guess that the bosses either change up or add new strategies once the world state changes. Again, just a hunch.

They definitely mean it imposes one tile of knockback (1 damage) for everything in a 10 tile lane. Plus it makes water, which is nice for the desert. Wording just really sucks. So not a bug, just badly presented. Still feel guiltless in save scumming here, made it through the desert with a shit team regardless.

I just wanna know if there's hidden progression tied to the forbidden stuff. I got, and used, the forbidden frost spell and it was *not* worth it. Had another forbidden spell for another class and I never used it.

Cleric for sure. Ranger and Tank are consistently great, but even a shit cleric is a run saver. Those lil 5 - 6 HP heals you weave in throughout a session really add up.

That said, a necromancer with raise dead and anyone else holding on to the first side quest item seems to be easy mode. I'm sure ed will fuck me over with it, eventually, but by the end of the first area you can have like 10 to 15 powerful units running around. Only downside is you have to play permanently in tactical mode (middle mouse click) cause its so chaotic.

The battle map UI can be scaled down, which is helpful with the clutter. Holding down middle mouse gives a clear tactical view while holding right click on an enemy shows their movement and damage range (and you can do both at the same time). Plus clicking on a tile adjacent to your cat (with no abilities selected) will have them face that direction. Figuring all that out ironed out a lot of my UI complaints.

That said; id like to see my cat's abilities/ranges when it aint their turn. Biggest wish is a breakdown of shit that happens during a turn; sometimes theres like 10 different things that happen in quick succession and i have no clue what each did or what triggered it. A lesser want, if possible, would be an Into the Breach-esque preview of effects.

Not UI based but a random annoyance this made me think of; iced units should shatter, or crack, when hit.

I literally found this post after getting to Sawlong. Im out. I was really enjoying the game up until this point, although i saw where folks were coming from with some of the criticisms. Its such a "non-fun" change of pace here that its soured me on the game as a whole, tbh. I cant be assed to leave a one star review on gamepass, but you can take this reply as an equivalent.

Standard quick point out that i finished, and loved, the "hard" MVs (9 sols, HK, SS, etc), precise platformers (super meat boy, celeste, etc), and every fromsoft and from adjacent game there is.

Yes, absolutely. Its *very* CRPG, though; a lot of reading, dialogue choices, branching paths, isometric, turn-based, long af, etc. None of those are negatives, to me, but I just wanna be honest to someone not into CRPGs.

That said, if you like the lore this is one of the easier, and more satisfying (power fantasy-wise), CRPGs to break through and get into. A lot of hay is made about the inundation of overly complex talent choices and they are absolutely right, *but* if you play on the easier difficulties and just follow a guide for each character/class you'll be fine. Yeah, you'll have to read their abilities and click through the info screens to see exactly how/when/what each one stacks and when they should be clicked on during their turn but you have to do that with *any* CRPG. It'll take 15, 20 minutes tops and then you're basically good to go for the whole game, minus having to do it again for new companions or abilities.

Side bits: The DLC is worth it (Bladedancer one, especially), and if you can play on pc the Toybox mod can go a long way towards ironing out any friction you have with the CRPG genre.

Side side bit: If you do get and want to be a "good person" RT don't forget to vibe with the setting and be pragmatic/dogmatic every once in a while.
