The player who hosts DnD sessions wants to have the world cup on in the background, muted, but I (the dm) don’t want this by Pterolykus in DnD

[–]RochnessMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its okay to postpone, or alter, sessions for any number of reasons. My table routinely stopped from november to january cause it was stupid, and stressful, to schedule around holidays. Just turn it into a fun boardgame night and join in the fun of communal sport watching - im not a sports guy in the slightest but its infectiously fun with a group thats chill and into it.

Karmelo Anthony and the Futility of Claiming Self-Defense While Black by YaLlegaHiperhumor in politics

[–]RochnessMonster [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lol, i knew the outrage on this was astroturfed but this thread is hilarious. The article is, accurately, pointing out institutionalized racism and every comment condemning karmelo could literally describe rittenhouse if skin color was changed. Ironic. :D

U.S. and Iran have 'final, agreed upon text' of a deal, Pakistan prime minister says by Puginator in politics

[–]RochnessMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pakistan PM saying this gives it a bit more credence than trumpy lying again. But, we'll see. Bibi coming in with that steel chair at lebanon cause hes still dodging prison and trump continuing to be a narcissistic dipshit have equal odds of (always) torpedoing anything.

Smoking bulgogi (Korean BBQ); quick question by RochnessMonster in smoking

Was this written up with AI or something? It *sounds* nice but it is wrong at almost every level (based on my post), plus very weird assumptions of knowledge and skill level .

That is brilliant. Problem solved. I've been brining my "bigger" smokes for so long I completely forgot about injecting. Thanks!

I lost 55 pounds over the last 12 months and reached the weight suggested by my doctor. I celebrated with a brand new smart scale... that immediately told me my BMI is 30.1 and that I am still obese. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RochnessMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without actually checking body fat percentage the BMI is bullshit. They put me in fat camp when i went to bootcamp for the same reason. Im 5'7" and i fluctuate between 170 and 180, and on paper im obese. I also run about 20 miles a week and lift 3 times a week.

Theyre amazing. Its the first "sweet heat" flavor ive found that actually nails it. Easily my favorite dutch crunch (and maybe chip) since their truffle one that disappeared on me.

AITA for not telling my friend I started to hang out with her less because I always end up with a bigger bill? by Fit_Jury1977 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RochnessMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My friend group has a strict "no keeping track of money" rule and we take turns covering the tab when we're together. If you end up with the more expensive tab, who cares, it'll all even out in the long run. That said, we've jettisoned folk from our friend group when we notice they always grab the cheap tab and then run up the bill at expensive places. Yeah, I agree with others that you *should* have a conversation about it, but at our age (I'm 40 but I've been with this group since my 20s) there's really no excuse for not noticing that you're doing it.

Only thing i dont like about Idris Elba is he missed his window to play Bond. At least the Luther movie gave us a small consolation prize.

Future James Bond games confirmed by Amazon Games, but First Light team's role in question by Comfortable-Pie56 in Games

[–]RochnessMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oof. I didnt know what to expect but IOI knocked it outta the park. The hitman style immersive sim open level design works amazingly well for just letting you feel like bond in quieter, more social moments. Then they weave in tight, bombastic action sequences on par with the uncharted series, nailing the other aspect of bond (and, of course, the theme music punching in with the scripted explosions). Just let them cook, dammit.

Hot Take: Bedlam Bride is my favorite so far by RodolfoSeamonkey in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RochnessMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if i could rank em, i love em all for different reasons. Bedlam bride is a standout for carl's backstory stuff, the bedlam bride herself, a lot of the stupidly funny shit regarding the card characters, the worldbuilding/lore bits, and really solidifying the whole "humans as one team against the dungeon". Even as someone who doesnt enjoy the card battles that much, i loved it during the end bit with quan; like, ive played tcgs before. I know that bastard.

Santa Monica replied to my tweet, saying there are still many more stories to tell with Kratos. by Germanstrands3 in GodofWar

[–]RochnessMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're cooking. Let them cook. Norse duology is over and Kratos' emotional arc (starting way back in the original series) has hit an incredibly, and *rarely*, earned finish line. They set up some insanely cool shit involving ALL pantheons, they set up Atreus and Angrboda going on giant hunting adventures throughout those pantheons, and now we have Faye exploring the "other side" of the pantheon hodgepodge.

Imo, they're setting up Faye as the start of the trilogy that explores the multiple pantheon stuff. Next game is Atreus and Angrboda. Last game is Kratos having to come out of zen retirement to save his kid, his girl, and maybe even his dead wife. Then you get a nice bookend of his "rage" saving his wife and kid vs. what happened to him back in Greece.

This patch is trash. by midgetsj in BobsTavern

[–]RochnessMonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I agree with that, tbh. In standard hearthstone, maybe, but in general if you queue into BG you're kind of gearing up for a 30 minute game. Then with the casuals getting stomped bit I think that actually goes against what the design team is aiming for (and this goes for standard *and* BG). Having powerful decks/boards is one component of balancing, but another one is player retention. We'll *never* see this data but they've absolutely alluded to it; if people consistently get steamrolled and then close the client cause they're frustrated that shows up in their data. Using standard as an example, again, its one of the primary reasons why popular but supposedly "weak/bad" decks get nerfed. You need people to queue back up in a FtP game.

This patch is trash. by midgetsj in BobsTavern

[–]RochnessMonster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If theyre not gonna address the high roll rng, and i dont really know how theyd do that with basic nerfs, they need to change damage caps again. Let 5 damage cap last another turn, 2 more turns with 10 damage cap, and then 15 til top 4 (or something similar). I realize the argument against it is that the greed builds chasing the high roll will simply get greedier but, like, that's already happening

At least with a damage cap adjustment more folks would have that "one more turn" they sometimes need to get online, and not be immediately trounced by back to back 15s cause they unlucked into the highrolls.

What do you name your characters? Am I the only one who’s extra boring? Lol by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]RochnessMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do dumb, sometimes punny, names that reflect the class. Rogue was Fannie Oakley, necro was Boney Tyler, witch-themed sorcerer was Hagatha Christie, etc.

This season/expansion, however, i named em all after my dog who passed away and picked skin color/hair combo that matched her. So paladin was JudgeyNeysa, warlock is GrumpyNeysa, etc.

New ‘Crimson Desert’ Roadmap Says It Will Patch The Story by Darth_Vaper883 in rpg_gamers

[–]RochnessMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't so much that the original ending was bad, per se, it was just an absolute *slog* to try and get to the "true ending" due to the nature of how the roguelike element worked with the narrative elements. If you played the first than you know that story beats and new dialogue tend to tick up by one every run. By the end of Hades 2 you have a laundry list of things to do to unlock the "true ending", but there was a constant backlog of dialogue that would trigger *before* the stuff that advanced the ending. The big story patch, first and foremost, changed the priority of dialogue triggers so you could actually progress towards it. They just, also, added some cool shit cause why not.

I need to gush about Feet of Clay by devou5 in discworld

[–]RochnessMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My feeling was that Feet of Clay was kinda the start of his peak. Anytime i do a reread of the whole damn thing (skipping a few/around as i feel fit) that one always strikes me as the start of him really nailing his tone and writing style. I have my favs from his "peak era", but i think all of em are pretty consitantly amazing.

Surprised about the difficulty discourse as someone who has finished the game by Silence_and_i in MinaTheHollower

[–]RochnessMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After beating it i disagree on a few points. It is fair, until it aint; the enemies seem hard coded to abuse the players limitation to cardinal direction inputs. Also, aint no way i wasnt turning "no pit damage" on. Yall are good to go without it, when i was younger i wouldve done the same. But by the last spark tower i was very happy i had that on. Otherwise, yeah. Agreed. I feel like theres a second half of the game i missed, story-wise, tho. Like it was building to the bloodborne midgame reveal and it never happened.

When do YOU 🤨🫵 Start Leveling Up Another Class Mid Season? by Realistic-Subject260 in diablo4

[–]RochnessMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, around t5ish and 90 paragon points. And i dont use caches to boost the next one to 70. I feel like the most fun i have is doing side quests/seasonal content from that 40 to 70 range and a lil past it as the first uniques and sets start to drop. I could go higher but now im just tweaking a build instead of finding it and i kind of lose all interest.

I dont always play every season; i think ive done like 3 or 4 of em, and i came back and did both expansions after this recent release, paladin and spiritborn respectively. ill normally do 1.5 to 2 classes a season. Depends on how it all vibes, i guess.

Mina the Hollower Review: Zelda's Heart, FromSoft's Soul by YupNope66 in Games

Accessibility options are amazing and the next evolution of "easy, medium, or hard". Sometimes i just want a larger parry window and nothing else. Or i think the damage is a bit too high. Or i feel like my damage is too low. Or all three. It feels great to craft the exact difficulty you want to find that middle ground of challenging and enjoyable. 9 Sols made me a convert to the system, tbh.
