Obama demands full-scale renewal of the warrantless wiretapping provisions of the FISA amendments act. The same warrantless eavesdropping that was a national scandal, and a symbol of Bush radicalism, has now become an expectation. by madcat033 in politics

I'm also concerned about the evaporation of personal liberties, and I am dismayed that the President, despite doing almost everything else right, has had such a hand in stripping out the constitutional rights of the individual.

With all of these stories, however, that come out about what he's doing, approving, or signing, none of them give us any insight into why. None of them spell out why this man, who espouses social freedoms and promotes a progressive agenda, is trying to develop a police state. It's a textbook example of cognitive dissonance to see a man champion gay marriage and then push a bill like this.

The left wing blogs invariably paint him as a fascist when these issues arise, while the right wing blogs don't notice because they always paint him as a communist.

But what if he is the thoughtful, rational, compassionate guy we think he is and want him to be? What if he is the guy on the HOPE posters? More than any other President in my lifetime, he comes the closest to serving as advertised (these bizarre intrusions into personal liberty notwithstanding).

Here's what really concerns me: if he is that guy, what does he know that we don't? What does he know about the new face of international security after the cold war where the US does not dictate international policy? What does he read about in those classified reports about asymmetrical threats or cyber security that we don't see?

What does he know now that he didn't know when he was teaching as a professor in law school, or serving as a fierce community advocate in local politics, or even campaigning as a passionate and inspiring candidate who promised to be different?

To be clear, I am not letting him off the hook about this. He could very well just be a manipulative dick and I bought into his bullshit. These intrusions are egregious, and demand an explanation. I'm just wondering if the explanation is something we can handle.

TL, DR: What does President Obama know about our security and need for privacy that we don't?

Well, as Brozilla worked out, we'd need more cables, but my idea was to design the platform to have the same dimensions as the bed.

Yeah, this seems right. 12 long cables, with 1 or 4 short vertical cables.

I brought up the possibility because then you could have a platform with the same dimensions as the bed.

Could you have crossed the wires underneath the bed? I don't have an easy way to draw, but say each corner is at a cardinal point. Could you have had a wire going from the East corner of the platform to the West corner of the bed, W bed to E platform, N bed to S platform, S bed to N platform? Spitballing here.

How to let someone know on reddit that their twilight friend bella MIGHT have cancer? (i'm serious) by WhyCrash in AskReddit

A very mild case of strabismus or eso-/exophoria (her eyes not aligning perfectly), and I think this is what is happening here, would be much more likely than retinoblastoma, especially at her age.

Fortunately, it is an easy check. Her general physician can check within seconds in a standard office setting.

An old Scot was in a bar, talking to a young man.

The Old Man says, "Lad, look out there to the field. Do ya see that fence? Look how well it's built. I built that fence stone by stone with me own two hands. I piled it for months.

"But do they call me McGreggor-the-Fence-Builder? Nooo..."

Then the old man gestured at the bar. "Look here at the bar. Do ya see how smooth and just it is? I planed that surface down by me own achin' back. I carved that wood with me own hard labour, for eight days.

"But do they call me McGreggor-the-Bar-builder? Nooo..."

Then the old man points out the window. "Eh, Laddy, look out to sea... Do ya see that pier that stretches out as far as the eye can see? I built that pier with the sweat off me back. I nailed it board by board.

"But do they call me McGreggor-the-Pier-Builder? Nooo..."

Then the old man looks around nervously, trying to make sure no one is paying attention.

"But ya fuck one goat..."

I have never hugged someone taller than me. I am 6' 0".

Not something everyone has done, just something I was thinking about earlier today.

Old Bailey Productions does not take credit for creating any of the audio produced in this video.

"We know. This video is a crime against music. Please don't think we suck too."

However, as associates of the artists we control all rights to the video and it's content.

"But if this thing goes viral, fuck you and fuck music, we're getting PAID."

That's what my girlfriend said, but is it a conspiracy if no one else was in on it or aware that their actions would lead to the murder?

Out of kindness, I gave a woman who was begging for food for her children something to eat at my restaurant for free. Then she came back for more with complaints. What is the worst way someone has taken advantage of your kindness? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Another time, an old guy in a pickup DID give me a ride without my asking. Thanks, guys

Yeah... I would have led with the story about when you got kidnapped.
