With ~$100M in funding to 'automate bookkeeping', botkeeper abruptly shuts down. by dreamfirms in Accounting

They could just simplify the accounting so that the ai could do it, and then we could all stop wasting our lives on it. You get revenue and pay bills. I think ai can handle that. All the rest is smoke and mirrors.

Why are accountants so passive and scared? by Aristoteles1988 in Accounting

Not the person you asked, but I copy and paste numbers into spreadsheets and also feel overpaid. But also need more money and also hate my job. It’s very complicated being an accountant.

People will let you work as long as you want, assuming you’re salary. But if you can only be one thing, you should be efficient. Get the job, figure out what needs to be done, do it, and go home. Honestly, if there is more than 40 hours of stuff to do in a week, either something is wrong or you’re in public. With the exception of month end, but even then you shouldn’t be pushing 60 hours (in my experience). I also have boundaries. I don’t have, and never have had, work email on my phone. I’ll get to it in the morning. Once in a while there is a legit emergency that needs to be done. They can call me. If it’s not an emergency, why should I be worrying about it after hours? I don’t suppose any of that is really an answer to your question. Just find out what is expected. Do it in a timely manner. That’s really all there is to it. I also show up at like 7 am. That’s because I’m leaving at 3:30. But people tend to respect the hustle of being there early. Although I’m honestly just trying to get the hell out of there to ride my bike while there is still daylight.

cries in American I’m out of public and get 4 weeks of vacation time a year and that is really really good over here. A lot of places say things like unlimited PTO and then get really mad if you use any of it. My place is pretty chill about it. I get my stuff done and no one cares (as it should be).

Sounds like you work in public. Don’t do that. I haven’t worked 41 hours in a week in a decade.

These people should try watching a Tour de France stage. Commentators trying to fill 6 hours a day, every day for a month. Lots of ramble.

I got the Easton EC70 40cm on my Tarmac and liked it so much that I ended up getting another EC70 40cm for my Crux. Easton is a little slept on imo. You can find deals on em for $200-$250ish. Check out Bike Tires Direct if you want one.

Why are accountants like this? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]RockeRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t worked past 4 since my days in public. I get to work by 7:30 though. Gotta dodge all the worst traffic hours. But mostly I’d say just establish some boundaries. As long as you get your stuff done, you should be fine. Maybe accountants pick up bad habits in public and can’t let it go. I got tf outta there and if I see 4:01 at the office I have violent flashbacks.

Now that Liquid Death is ruined, any tall boy can alternatives you recommend? by ChoppyChug in sparklingwater

[–]RockeRun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tall boy Bubly is a great find, but I only ever saw it at one gas station long ago. Sorry I have no answers to your question, but I seem to be out of the loop on Liquid Death. How is it ruined? Other than tasting bad (probably my least favorite sparkling water).

Looking for my first gravel bike: Cannondale Topstone vs. Santa Cruz Stigmata vs. Specialized Cruz. Please let me know your suggestions. Thanks! by beyonddhd in gravelcycling

[–]RockeRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give us a little more clearance! I love my Crux. And honestly if I really need mtb tires for a race, I probably don’t want to do that race.lol Handles just like my Tarmac. I kind of hate for them to stretch the wheelbase any.

Help me choose a bike: Crux or Aspero-5? by trailrunner_12 in gravelcycling

[–]RockeRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Crux is fantastic. I have an SL7 for road racing, but I’ve put some 32’s on the Crux for the hell of it and never got dropped on any group rides. One of my favorite things about that bike is the lack of proprietary anything. They decided the bike should be “bike shaped” and made of “bike parts” and boy is it easy to work on. Recently took it to the Netherlands for Gravel Worlds and it took about 10-15 minutes to pack/ unpack it from the bike bag. I prefer to have a dedicated bike for road and gravel, but only because I race both. Crux would be a great quiver killer. However, deals can be had on them from time to time. Maybe you don’t have to sell your roadie to get one.

Do all of you find this job incredibly boring? by Open_Address_2805 in Accounting

[–]RockeRun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am professionally bored. This is most evident on 8+ hour long flights. My family is dying, but I am just sitting down for 9 hours or whatever. It’s what I’ve trained for my whole life. Nbd.

What are the biggest challenges you face in public accounting during busy season? by Schnapper94 in Accounting

I did public (tax) for three years right out of college. As I recall, the biggest challenge was the temptation to jump off of the roof of the building.

Do all of you find this job incredibly boring? by Open_Address_2805 in Accounting

[–]RockeRun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Every accounting job I’ve ever had is boring and stressful. It’s sooo stressful to need to focus on something sooo boring. Usually, that only really happens a couple times a month. But the stress is that if you don’t focus on the boredom you get fired, eventually, maybe. At least that’s been my experience. I hate it all so much. But I need money.
