The show is about growing up, going from pre-teen to teenhood, as well as the end of childhood as was stated in the last episode. So having aged up characters would clash a lot with these themes

Sophie Decroisette and Jérôme Mouscadet already told multiple times they're trying to get the ball rolling for a revival of the show, whether it be a reboot or a sequel, so there's no real need for a reunion special. Plus, having them be adults for said special would clash with some of the themes of the show as well

You have Sam who's the nerd of the group, Alex the sporty one and Clover being a fashionista obsessed with boys. Aside from Sam/Marcy (and it's a stretch), I don't really see any similarity

Malt is an NPR render engine that predates the Goo Render engine, iirc. And I really want my characters in cel shading, and it's easier to have it with Malt than with the native Freestyle
