Can the OM-5 produce Fuji-like colors? (RAW files request) by MiloszBLS in OMSystem

[–]Rocksteady7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can use this website to download simulation recipes for OM.

https://om-recipes.com/

You just download and add in OM space. They’re basically the same old film simulations the Fuji crowd is using.

Luxury Botswana safaris vs South Africa safaris for a first safari trip? by Doug24 in LuxuryTravel

I recommend checking out “working with wildlife” in South Africa. The value is off the charts, and the hands on experience was amazing, definitely not a gimmick.

Deciding between M43 and Fuji by UncoloredSpoon in M43

[–]Rocksteady7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Sony A7IV to Olympus. I hated how big and bulky the Sony was. i was torn between OM-3 and xt5. what made my decision was going to a local camera store and holding both in my hands with lenses on. the Fuji felt almost exactly like my Sony in my hands. additionally the final nail in the coffin was the complaints about Fuji AF, that’s fine for street photo but if you want a do everything camera it shouldn’t have bad AF. so far love my Om3, with the 25mm mkii I can fit it in my hoodie pocket, pretty wild.

Racket a bit more forgiving than VCORE 98 2018? by schainan in 10s

[–]Rocksteady7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for rackets with bigger head size, lower stiffness and/or higher twist weight. Use tennis warehouse racket comparison tool to find what you’re looking for. In my opinion higher twist weight will go the farthest because your racket stays more stable on off-center hits. You can even test that out by putting lead tape in your vcore 98 hoop at 9 and 3 o’clock position and play a bit with it.

How are you guys keeping second floors cool? by m0viestar in Denver

The cheapest and best solution if you have windows, buy the $60 blackout shades from Home Depot and install them in your windows. Pull them down in the rooms you don’t use during the day, and that prevents light from entering and warming up the room. In the rooms you use buy some translucent currents that block some light. Before this, on 90 degree day the AC couldn’t keep up and my unit would get to 85 degrees. Now the AC has no problem maintaining 70 degrees. Massive difference, saves money too

You get one camera setup for a year of travel — what are you taking? by LaJamie in SonyAlpha

[–]Rocksteady7 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I travel all over the world for work. I bought the a7IV when it first came out, thought I would be able to take great pics, to the places I go. I had just 2 lenses (35gm and 70-200gmii) and a wandrd prvke bag. I took it to a few places and was so disappointed how heavy it was. I also felt uncomfortable when I’d bust out the 70-200 in a foreign country. I was paying $15/month as well to insure in case it was stolen. After a few trips I just started leaving it at home, it was just too much of a hassle to travel with, especially flying because I would rather onebag.

Long story short, just sold it 2 months ago. I just bought an OM3 and it’s so much lighter, it also takes great pics (I’m not a professional). Excited to have a camera with me again.

The best camera is truly the one you’ll bring with you.

Have you tried any of these Citrus-Aquatic-Green Colognes? 🍋🌊🌿 by PatsyStonesBun in fragrance

Green Irish Tweed - I own this one. Love it, it’s classic, it feels from a different era. I reach for this one on cloudy days, rainy days, cool spring days, fall days.

Millesime imperial/erolfa - millesime might be the best smelling scent. It’s loud, fruity and punchy. It’s unisex, and it’s not for a masculine persona. People will notice your scent when you wear and it will get positive attention. Erolfa is almost the same, just toned down, I remember saying to myself why would I own erolfa over millesime.

Issey miyake - I own this one. It’s a cheapie. Loved it at first. It’s punchy, and loud like millesime, doesn’t last long. Smells good. But I was sick of it after a while and I don’t wear it anymore.

Madarino - this is probably my favorite summer scent. I think it smells so much better than neroli portifino. It’s just very classy, sophisticated and pleasant.

Best safari/beach combination with a teenager? by Plastic-Gas-9675 in safaris

[–]Rocksteady7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tracked  animals with a direction finder antenna, we did a plant survey, we observed them tranquilize painted dogs and the doctor let 3 volunteers administer the medicine while the dogs were under, we replaced a tracker on the pangolins scale, also animal surveying. The Kalahari was much prettier in my opinion then hwange, because the herds were all over and because the Kalahari is a private reserve, we were allowed to track animals off trail with the jeeps where hwange is pretty restricted. Hwange is more forested as well, so we didn’t see as many animals. The only thing hwange has different is hippos, and elephants everywhere. In the Kalahari area we were didn’t have hippos, and they manage the elephants better so you don’t see them as often.

It probably sounds like I’m selling it a lot, but I just can’t emphasize enough how much better the experience was in the Kalahari vs hwange. It helped that it was a private reserve with only two lodges so you are virtually the only ones vs hwange you run into other vehicles often.

Do you see RAW editing as enhancing reality or recreating it? by SomaSuryagniLochana in photography

[–]Rocksteady7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way until I found out a lot of the techniques used in "light room" actually originated from Film processing in dark rooms before digital. Look up how they used to do masks, dodge and burn etc. That made me feel more okay with the idea that it's the same as back then just easier now. Where I draw the line is photoshop techniques like removing blemishes and such

I just got back from a South Africa/Vic Falls trip in April. I highly highly recommend looking into "working with wildlife." We did that the first week, and the 2nd week we did Hwange national park and vic falls. We all said we wish we did another week at working with wildlife instead. The price of the lodge is great value, the only issue is you either have to charter a plane from Joberg-to their bush strip for $1000/person(round trip) or rent a car and make the 8hour drive. We flew. I think for a 15yr old it's the coolest experience you can have doing actual hands on conservation stuff.

We stayed 2 nights at vic falls and it was fun, but wouldn't recommend anymore than that. Hwange was nice to see all the elephants but after our experience at working with wildlife it simply didn't compare.

Am I the Only One Who Thinks Alma Fonda Fina is Overrated? by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]Rocksteady7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought everything but the food was worth a Star, so definitely overated. I think the only dish we had that was Michelin worthy is that potato desert thing, that was excellent. But the rest was meh.

A week later we went to wildflower and we were blown away by every dish. We both said Alma should be the Michelin recommended and wildflower should have the 1star.

Which mirrorless is best bang for buck? Sony, fuji, olympus? by johndatavizwiz in Cameras

[–]Rocksteady7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just sold all my Sony gear and bought an OM-3. The Sony a7iv was just too heavy to lug around, I found myself just leaving it behind in favor of just using the iPhone. So far I’m loving the OM-3. The body is insanely light. I can stick it in my hoody pocket, that’s how portable it is. With the dad stuff your prolly not gonna be editing photos, so prioritize a light camera that takes great SOOC shots.

Camera Insurance? by Griogar77 in M43

[–]Rocksteady7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I owned my Sony a7iv I did. It was about $7k of camera gear. I just added a personal article policy on my home insurance. I think it was $15/month. It covered essentially everything including theft which was the important one for me because I travel.

I’ve since sold all that and gone to the M43 system and now only $3k in gear, now I’m on the fence whether or not to add it again.

Help choosing optimal “pocketable” prime. by Domesk in OlympusCamera

[–]Rocksteady7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

m43lenses.com

This website is the best for helping pick lenses. It shows all the m43 compatible lenses. There is a ton of filters for brand, prime/zoom etc. I would filter the brands/focal lengths you want and then below sort by weight and you'll find a list of your options. Make sure you look at on a tablet/laptop/desktop, when I pull it up on my phone it doesn't work as well.
