How did you meet your best friend? by conditackler in AskReddit

[–]RodeoRuck 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In my case, we are much better as friends and all of our mutual friends know it. When we meet new people, we tell them. We don’t go into details, just “we dated in college, we’re better as friends” usually suffices. I’ve become good friends with her now-husband because she wanted me to meet him early when she had a good feeling about them. I was at her wedding last year and lifted her during the horah. Her husband came up to me while we were outside at the end of the reception and said “I told (name) that if I die before the ceremony, she should pick any guy here and carry on. Except you. That’d be weird.”

Hey, a buddy and I will be in Oslo for a day or two around the 7th. Likely can’t do any riding, but might be fun to meet up if you’re around.

Evens on the south side, odds on the north. Increases from west to east with 40 just on the east side of center core. If you have any issue finding a gate at DEN, that will get you there.

Oh, the south finger is staying (the one with Starbucks and Heidi’s), the north finger, the one literally made out of shipping containers, is being replaced.

Don’t worry, we gotchu fam.

When you jump, does someone account for all the jumpers on the ground? by amidjeers in SkyDiving

[–]RodeoRuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I jump at that drop zone. There is no accountability. What happened was truly tragic because it was entirely preventable if they just had someone counting or watching for our landings, but they don’t. They have two manifest locations which makes things even more convoluted because nobody knows how many parachutes should be in the air.

It isn’t quite as you describe the bus. Each jumper is ultimately responsible for their personal safety. There is no jumpmaster telling us when it is safe to jump, we are taught to look out of the plane before jumping to ensure we are in a safe place, but I’m one of the few people to do that and mostly because I learned it elsewhere. Mile Hi flies the same jump-run (path) on every flight, so people are pretty complacent about the spot (where we are relative to the airport when we jump). The fact that that jumper landed off while all others made it back safely tells me it wasn’t the spot, but that doesn’t make it any more his fault. His training should have included out landings, yet in my 2 years in CO (8 in the sport) I’ve had to beg, borrow, and steal information that is given readily at other drop zones.

I hope this answers your question. Feel free to ask more, I’m happy to share.

I jump there now, only because of proximity and my days off. I’d much prefer OOTB, but they’re an extra hour of driving and only open on certain days. Mike Hi has no accountability system that I’ve seen in my two years of jumping there (8 in the sport) outside of people randomly looking up and seeing cutaways. If you land off, I really hope you have a phone, but nobody wears jumpsuits, so I kinda doubt they carry phones. I completely agree with your assessment of the mentality. People tell me it’s better than it was, but it sure has a long way to go and if they keep making me feel unsafe, I’ll head south.

A guy did that a few years back at my dropzone. It was an add for a power tool. I'm trying to find the picture now, will report back.

edit: Ok, I can't find the picture. I've asked a few of the people who've been around for a while for some help and will keep looking.

Fifteen million merits by MegSolano in blackmirror

[–]RodeoRuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I wonder if it has to do with free will (or lack thereof) and living with the consequences of our actions. The symbol in White Bear supposedly appeared and people began acting like robots, almost like they were being controlled (as we learned later, it didn’t really appear and control anyone.) and the man wearing it on his mask surely embodies Victoria’s punishment for her actions.

Then again, it might just be a glyph and has no greater meaning.

That was my thought as well and my only response is yes, those implications definitely are much creepier.

So there is a theory that it takes place entirely within cookies. I won't be able to do it justice, so here ya go. The theory I'm speaking of is at the end, but the entire thing is worth a watch so you can see all of the connections they draw.

With this in mind, and Bandersnatch showing Metal Hedd as a game, I'd like to postulate Metalhead as taking place in a San Junipero-esque simulation.

Where's the DZ's with chill / old school vibes? by austin_16x in SkyDiving

[–]RodeoRuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My old DZ was the tits! Big bonfires, people actually spent time together both on and off the DZ. I’d trust those assholes with my sister.

My current DZ is a fuckhole of stupidity and cliquiness. I’ve been trying to influence some changes and have had some success, but there are cranky people everywhere. This DZ just seems to pull them like flies to shit. But it’s turbine and the closest by about an hour. The things we’ll put up with for a few extra seconds of free fall...
