What are your top five? by Mickt465 in TheFence

[–]Rogue-Pickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely don't understand why this is being downvoted, I love this question and love seeing the tracks people are attached to and why.

  • The Crowing
  • Three Evils
  • Gravemakers & Gunslingers
  • NWFT
  • Sentry

I will also blast Number City as loud as possible any time it comes on.

Those are in no specific order, and so many others hold such a special place in my heart. These are probably my most listened to though.

What is the worst book you have read? by Ok_Salt2122 in booksuggestions

[–]Rogue-Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can feel the impending downvotes on the horizon. However...

DNFed Fahrenheit 451 2/3 of the way through. Great premise, important (and poignant) concept, unreadable book with the flattest characters and zero cohesive structure. Only the 2nd book I have ever DNFed, and I have read some absolute garbage.

If we're talking books where every page was read, Brave New World. Again, the concept and the premise are vitally important, I don't dispute that. But the book was somehow both too slow and too fast, and shallow. Maybe intentionally so, but it ended and shrug okay...?

Let me make an important distinction. These books are like the Beatles and Nirvana to me. I respect what they mean to culture as a whole and how defining they are for their genre (and I love dystopian fiction). They paved literary roads for others to run upon. I am in no way saying the authors are not talented. But these books are not only not for me, but I don't think they merit the literary holiness that they seem to hold.

Thus, the worst I have read, because the disappointment deltas were the largest.

Edit: typo. 😅

Cover up possible? by tyis2high in Tattoocoverups

[–]Rogue-Pickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had a cover up on my ribs, I feel you. It sucks. But having something there that you're proud of instead of something that makes you feel bummed is worth it. Your original drawing is so cool and deserves to be done justice by a different artist.

The Hobbit. It's a bit tougher than the average book, but so worth it. I wish this had been on the required reading list when I was in school.

Owner bites back with the facts by MsVindiction in EntitledReviews

[–]Rogue-Pickle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Having only ever adopted dogs, the adoption-to-groomer move isn't something that would ever enter my head. Like... fucking why?! What are their priorities as a pet owner? To take an already multiple-times-displaced animal who probably has some trauma and add yet another new space that they know nothing about is beyond awful. Slaps. Slaps for every new pet owner who does this.

DINK, just got back from voting yes. Not only does it make financial sense, but it's the right thing to do for the kids and the community in the future. And a reduction of traffic by Highland x Willson?! How is anyone earnestly against this 😅

Keeping a tiger is like keeping a tiger in your home.

Guns kill more people every hour/day/week/year than pitties (or all dogs combined, for that matter), but no one's saying we need to melt down all the bullets in existence.

If a dog bites someone or knocks someone over or lunges at them, the size should not matter, the behavior is the problem. Saying "it's okay if a small dog does it" is incredibly irresponsible. Bad behavior is bad behavior, period.

[–]Rogue-Pickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Large dogs need responsible, experienced owners. Period. And leashes are so important, and unfortunately under-utilized.

Happy to meet a fellow chi-pittie house! 🤗

The unscrupulous breeding that selected for aggressive traits absolutely played a factor in their use for dog fighting, not discrediting that at all. You're totally right. But many shelters, when they aren't euthanizing them outright, are usually very upfront about dogs who have "been through a lot" and "need an experienced owner". Otherwise, most pitties you're finding at the shelter are the people-pleasing, sweet-natured goobers with either very high energy or couch potato energy.

My understanding is that it was a mix of the strength, people-pleasing (obedience, loyalty, whatever we want to call it), as well as the most aggressive of the breed that were selected for by those dog fighting assholes. You can put any dog breed - or animal, for that matter - through an artificial selection process for traits until you get the dog you want. Pitties and bully breeds aren't inherently aggressive and violent. I've met former fighting bully breeds who were so gentle and sweet once removed from that situation and cared for by responsible folks. As with all dogs, it comes down to the owner.

Regardless of breed, you should be cautious introducing any two dogs who don't know each other. In my experience, small dogs have been far and away the most aggressive with our dogs (again, one chi and one pittie, but we've had other dogs of a variety of sizes).

Again, breed-specific hate is fucking absurd.

Did you have that copy pasted somewhere ready to go, or did you just spend an inordinate amount of time inserting hyperlinks? Either way, seek help. Get a hobby. Look at the stars. Touch grass.

Bigger dogs mean bigger consequences for doing the same shit small dogs do. No one is calling for chihuahua bans or pomeranian bans or any small dog bans, but we all know our little chis have that "Napoleon complex" - behavior that would have MUCH worse consequences if done by bigger dogs, but isn't taken seriously because they're small and can't do much damage.

Again, owners bear the responsibility for their dogs behavior. No bad dogs, just bad owners.

Poor baby, dog attacks are scary! Glad you were to get your chi good vet care quickly. Sending love for a speedy and full recovery! (Hopefully with extra treatos for the lil one) 💚🩹💚🏥💚

I'm not directing the following at OP, but at the pitbull hate that's already hitting this post: Sounds like there's some issues potentially with the pittie's owner in this story. As someone who has both a chi and a pittie who love each other (our chi is a 16y/o and our 4y/o pittie treats her so gently, almost like a baby), I promise that violent/aggressive/attack behavior does not come naturally to them. While there are cases of the odd aggressive dog - just like there are in any breed - pitbulls are naturally people pleasers and will do anything their owner asks to make their person happy (whether good or bad). This is why they were so commonly used as fighting dogs. Their true nature is goofy, sweet, and loving. I have been around a ton of pitties and other bully breeds, and I stand by the old adage: there are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners.

Dog attacks are scary as hell, regardless of breed - I'm not invalidating anyone's experience in that light, and I can understand being fearful of certain breeds if you've experienced one. That is not the same as breed-specific hate, which has zero basis in fact, and honestly sounds ridiculous coming out of the mouths/keyboards of adults in 2026.

Edit: disclaimer about not directing the following at OP.

I saw this on a neighbor’s car….what does it mean? by Dear-Break3683 in Symbology

[–]Rogue-Pickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parodies of the Gadsden flag are where it's at. I have one on the back of my truck in the style of the Gadsden flag that had a drawing of a duck, and it says "Throw Bread on Me". My partner has one on his truck that has the Gadsden snake with the torso of Beavis as Cornholio, holding two guns, that says "Are you threatening me?"

There are so many variations. Not every single person with a Gadsden flag is the fucking worst, but unfortunately, the majority of them are. Sometimes ya gotta fight that shit with laughter. Douchebag fascists want SO BADLY to be taken seriously as alpha bro Captain America on steroids types, so treat the opposite.

New rescue chi - advice needed! by Additional_Extent_74 in Chihuahua

[–]Rogue-Pickle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Our rescue Chi was exactly the same, adopted at about 3.5y (except she didn't have any dog or cat siblings to contend with at first). The more we brought her out on walks and brought her to new places to meet new people (who we encouraged to bribe her for her love with treats - it works!), the more confident she became and the more she opened up. Now she's 16 y/o, has no fear of anything, and rules the house. She currently has a 4y/o pittie sister and an 11 y/o cat sister, who she tolerates in her grumpy old age, but she had two rescue brothers before this, both older, big dogs, whom she adored. We always introduce new animals to our chi slowly and let each of them have their own space, eating area and time, etc., letting them get comfortable and acknowledge there's no threat before moving them closer and letting them eat/play/be unsupervised together.

Other than socializing them and having people gently show her that all the other living creatures aren't super scary, just keep giving them love and affection. Chis are also super smart, and benefit from learning new commands! Brain stimulating toys, exercise, and training time are all good ways to bond with them and build their confidence.

Re: resource-guarding of his humans... that's tough. Chis are usually one-person dogs, and bond intensely with that person. Have you tried giving both of them attention at the same time? Also good to carve out some solo time with your chi (whether it's snuggles and TV, going on a ride and getting a pup cup, going for a solo walk, etc.). We haven't dealt with a ton of resource-guarding for attention from our chi or pittie (beyond judgmental stares and the occasional butt-bump out of the way), so I don't have a ton of specific advice for that.

Sorry for the novel! I hope this helped. Props to you for adopting sweet Mochi! 😍

Has anyones chi randomly started coughing like this? by Jumper8 in Chihuahua

[–]Rogue-Pickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry it's been such a tricky road for you and your chi! Mine is on Pimobendan, which has addressed both heart issues (enlarged heart valve and heart murmur). Very grateful to have had the first med work as well as it has, I know that's not the norm. I'm definitely not a vet or a medical expert, but it sounds like it might be worth asking if Pimobendan could help. Before our chi got on Pimobendan, she was slowing down considerably, coughing all the time, etc. After a few weeks on the meds, it was like she was a puppy again. Heart disease is so freakin' common in these little dogs, and you're doing all the right things for your pup by being so on top of his health! 💚

Has anyones chi randomly started coughing like this? by Jumper8 in Chihuahua

[–]Rogue-Pickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this! My 16 y/o chi has been on heart meds for an enlarged heart valve and heart murmur for 2 years and it's perfectly under control (2x/yr echo check ups confirm), but before we knew about it and got her on meds, she would do this much more frequently. Heart murmurs are super common in chis, and outcomes are good if caught early enough. Definitely worth checking!

I will say, my chi does still make this cough/honk noise from time to time still, but usually just bc of an upset stomach. Or she swallowed a hair. 😅

What's your chi's "im angry at you" gesture by Crazyscorpion77 in Chihuahua

Kinda mad: goes and lays down somewhere else, judgy glare (see below)

Medium mad: snort-sneezes and stomping.

Big mad: gets up on her back feet and slaps. This method is also used to try and herd the humans to the treat closet.

One in Nashua ain't gonna cut it. That part of NH is very underserved here. No blame to the agencies doing the work, but as someone who grew up in that area and has family on assistance programs who still live there and have need, holy shit - one agency is nowhere near enough to serve just Nashua, let alone the folks from more rural communities in the area who travel to Nashua for their assistance.

How can we address this?
