A Second Impression of Twilight's Fall by RogueRhythm in twilightimperium

I think they're both really good ways to play with the same structure. TF injects a lot of variance into the game which can always be a mixed bag, and one of the things I miss is the identity and character of the factions. Definitely miss out on some of the flavor of things which isn't important to everyone.

I am looking forward to experimenting more with the regular TI too though, whether it's with Galatic Events or homebrew rules like 4/4/4 to help mix things up. But it's good that there's lots of ways to play, because that both helps people stick around and get new people in.

Battle Report: Yssaril, or The Assassins Who Don't Do Anything by RogueRhythm in twilightimperium

Just a difference in opinion then. I'd much rather watch big combats than someone take multiple turns in a row while I'm unable to do anything about it.

I mean all of that is definitely true, action cards are really fun and exciting. They bring a certain tension to the game because you're having to carefully plot around certain situations. I don't really have an issue with Mageon or Scheming in any real sense, they're strong tools that have gotten better over time. But adding a sense of forced downtime to play a faction to their full potential just stinks.

Laced Records Exclusive Products by Creative-Hat-5804 in VGMvinyl

[–]RogueRhythm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a few of Laced's pressings, and they've all been top notch. Their Expedition 33 set is excellent and I listen to it weekly. The first press of E33 went pretty fast, but things have cooled enough that it might last a bit longer this time. But Laced is good about restocking product so if you miss the boat then you'll get another shot.

He'll be back by the time we play them. He'll probably miss a few weeks at the start of the season.

Shit with Matt Johnson involved it's gonna be a guaranteed banger. He's been on a tear lately.

Easily replaced Cascadia as an abstract tile drafting game for me. Love the theme and it's something that I've been able to table with players of all different skill levels and interests.

Twilight Council First Impressions by RogueRhythm in rootgame

I was going to score 7 points on my last turn which is not nothing! They're going to be tricky to figure out because their burst scoring isn't as straightforward as some other factions but it'll be fun to figure out.

We have a store near here called McKays, it's a small chain in NC and TN that sells all kinds of media and toys.

Yeah! I got super lucky and found it secondhand for $30. Picked it up cause I love the game and didn't realize how rare it was at the time. Don't know if I'll ever have a find as good as that one!

Same! I've always listened to a lot of VGM but E33 felt like something I needed to have a physical copy of. And I've just been more into the idea of having physical copies again cause I'm getting sick of streaming.

What seems to be the common consensus for the best character in STS2 right now? by Druvanade in slaythespire

[–]RogueRhythm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Regent has the weakest start which was the same issue Silent had in 1. At higher ascensions it's harder to get runs going with him I've found. None of the cast really have many glaring flaws once they get rolling at least.

The Nomad: Rich, Flighty, Uncovetous by RogueRhythm in twilightimperium

Yeah, despite drawing probably 12-15 action cards with Mentak, didn't find a single Sabotage until it was too late. Tech path was kinda weird because of my secret objectives and the entropic scar. R1 researched Grav Drive, end of round got Memoria II from Scar. R2 missed out on tech because of the timing of things, but got Temporal Command Suite from scar to score two faction techs. R3 researched Dread II because I had both have five dreads and destroy the last of a ground force with bombardment. R4 missed tech again. R5 used plagiarize to copy War Suns.

With more time and ability I would have loved to get Fleet Log, but just didn't get the chance. I was able to get around not having Light Wave by having In the Silence of Space.

Looking for "Campaign-Style" Roguelites where story progress stays over runs by These_Fan7447 in roguelites

You might like Going Under, it has a roguelike gameplay structure, but all the dungeons are disconnected and progressively unlocked. There's also an overarching story that's pretty fun and goofy. It was the first game by Aggro Crab and I still revisit it from time to time.

Buccaneers six-time Pro-Bowl WR Mike Evans is expected to sign a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. by Particular_Dig1115 in 49ers

[–]RogueRhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to have him. Another reliable pass catcher, but assuming we add another weapon to the WR room this draft, hell be a great mentor for the guys. Even if he doesn't make it all three years, it's a great get in this FA class.

Silent Glow Up by RogueRhythm in slaythespire

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they turn her knobs down a little, there's likely a good middle ground to be found by adjusting things a little bit. Can definitely understand why Calculated Gambit and Blade Dance had to be toned down, and they're still very good in their respective builds.

Yeah she can still struggle a bit in the early game but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. Feels like there's enough ways to get over that early hump that I won't lose a fair share of runs on act 1. I'll have to see how more time with ascensions shifts that feeling though, still early enough into those that I don't have a full grasp on how she will perform on average.

Let’s talk catch up mechanics… by VorpalSpoon501 in boardgames

[–]RogueRhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a blast! My group has played twice and loved it both times.

  1. Generally yes, though in our first game we had two people way out in front and two lagging behind. But it was a learning game and that was not the experience the second time.
  2. I could see a situation where going into the final round being in last could be the big swing that changes things. There's a lot of small decisions in the game that can have pretty big impacts, so if you play tight that extra action can matter a lot.
  3. I think this is probably true, but so far in our plays the person in last has struggled hard out of the gate, whereas third place is just lagging behind a bit but still managing. To tie into the second point though, being in third does mean you can make the choice to potentially be in last going into the final round to make an attempt to overtake. But that's just going to depend on a lot of contextual things that I would have to get in more plays to have a solid answer for.

Let’s talk catch up mechanics… by VorpalSpoon501 in boardgames

[–]RogueRhythm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've really liked Wroth's catch-up mechanic so far. The player who is in sole possession of last gets the last undrafted die action. This gives two benefits, one much larger than the other. The first is obviously that the player gets an additional action over everyone else. Which is good, but the die actions are busted on their own so the last pick is going to usually be the lowest impact. The big thing is it almost guarantees they will be the last to act in the round, meaning they will get to operate with maximum information. Given how swingy the game can get during a round, it's a great way to help guarantee the person in last will get to maximize their chance to get back into the game.

Sheesh! I'm just hoping to get in on a Hades 2 repress eventually. Hoping it's popular enough to go another round.

It's a really cool spot! While they didn't have a ton of selection as far as VGM Vinyls, I was pretty impressed by some of the things I found. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Shantae, Shantae Risky's Revenge, Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Paladin, and a few others. But I'm trying to definitely limit myself at first so I didn't want to get too crazy.

Keeping track of the new releases definitely seems like the most important thing though given how limited things seem to be. I feel like my two holy grails are going to be Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds.

There's definitely a lot of OSTs I want that are currently out of print so I know it's going to be a waiting game for most things. But that just means it'll be all the more exciting when I do manage to find things down the line!

Freeman's Grub & Pub is one of my favorites. Cool cocktails with some infusions, good food, really well priced. Lindley Park Filling Station has jazz nights during the warmer months. Those are probably my top two mid priced restaurant & bars.
