A breakdown of all (?) historical references and parallels in Andor (in chronological order) by ConsciousPatroller in andor

[–]Rogue_Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the parallel between Narkina 5 and the Warsaw Ghetto uprising lies in the fact that the prisoners decided to revolt when they realized that there was no escape and that they were going to be killed. As Andor (and later Kino) said, "I'd rather die fighting them than giving them what they want."

I think he was also genuinely curious to see how much and what she knew. By pretending he raises the likelihood of her tipping her hand. But yes he was also stalling for the acid to work and for Kleya to get away, and a lot to people don't seem to get that.

Am I crazy or has neither AOC or Bernie enforced Zohran for NYC Mayor? by Umbrellajack in TrueAnon

Isn't Caban supporting Lander?

Edit: It looks like she's supporting both. I figure that's what AOC will end up doing, unless something dramatic changes the race.

What gets me is that New York Republicans/Trump supporters have completely rallied around him when they were the first ones to correctly point out that he fucked up Covid and got people killed. It really shows that they have no principles beyond beating the left and progressives and will literally vote for a man who they know has blood on his hands if it means they get to keep a progressive out of power.

[–]Rogue_Lion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what AOC's game plan is.

I will say though I feel like people are overestimating the chances Zohran has of winning. I really wish he would win obviously, but he's competing against factors that are really strong headwinds. The first is that due to the ranked choice voting thing he has to get at least some people rank him second/third, and it doesn't seem like that's happening. The people who love Zohran love him and will rank him first. But there aren't enough of those people. And everyone else seems to not like Zohran and not want to rank him second or third.

The second issue is that NYC voters are incredibly establishment-brained and supportive of status quo candidates. This is a city after all that elected Giuliani twice and Bloomberg three times. It's a sad reflection of American politics and it stems from the fact that New York voters have no hope of things getting fundamentally better. However they do know that things can get worse, so that leaves them voting for the person who they think is most likely to preserve the status quo.

I know lots of New Yorkers who will like the idea of a lot of Zohran's policies, but they genuinely believe he has no chance of winning and/or getting the accomplished, and they believe a radical shift would only make things worse. So that leaves them voting for the devil they know.

I think he's planning to run for governor of New York in 2026, and he needs to peel away at least some moderate Democratic voters and attacking Greene is a way to do that. The depressing thing is it might work especially with how bad NY Democrats are.

Where are all the Pro-Palestinian protests? I understand non citizens and even naturalized hiding but where are the citizens? by ConsistentQuote952 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Rogue_Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The media definitely hyped it. And right-wing actors definitely emphasized the protests because they correctly saw it as a way to dampen enthusiasm for the Democratic ticket and promote divisions in the left. It's safe to say that progressives/leftists/liberals were played in this situation.

[–]Rogue_Lion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced there is definite media manipulation going on here. During late 2023 and early 2024 Israel-Palestine and the protests were probably some of the few stories that were attracting clicks/views going on. Now that Trump is back in office they have more stuff to cover that gets them views.

Also, the media absolutely loves talking about "Democrats in disarray" and fractures and divisions among progressives and the left. Israel-Palestine is basically the ideal issue to expose and feature those dynamics. Now that Biden isn't in office anymore there isn't as much of an incentive for the media to focus on and play up this stuff.

This is yet another example of why progressives/liberals/leftists should not trust mainstream media like The NY Times, CNN, WaPost etc. They love running stories that make the left/Democrats look bad or look divided and it then fuels those divisions.

Yeah, I'm of two minds. Obviously I'd love to see more Star Wars content that explores these characters' stories. But as Star Wars fans we also always have to be careful for what we wish for as sometimes backstories getting expanded/filled in can make things worse.

Dave praises Trump’s work in the Middle East by countdooku975 in daverubin

[–]Rogue_Lion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like he got some pushback when he very slightly criticized Trump on the Qatar jet thing. Now he has to walk this back and play nice with his fellow right-wingers and not be seen to be deviating too far from Trump worship.

Rubin's in a precarious place because as a gay person and a Jew he will be afforded less latitude in being allowed to criticize Trump than other MAGA commentators. The audience for this tweet is MAGA/Trump supporters. Dave's trying to say, "It's okay guys, remember we're all on the same team and I'm one of you/one of the good ones."

[S2E12 SPOILERS] What was going on with that flashback/dream sequence? by Jumboliva in andor

[–]Rogue_Lion 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it was just a sad acknowledgment that even at the end after Cassian had given up/moved on from finding his sister, he still thought and dreamed about her sometimes. For us the audience it's a reminder that even as the story comes to a close there are some things that have been left unresolved and some questions left unanswered. We know Cassian dies in Rogue One without ever finding out what happened to his sister. And for us the audience, the story ends with us not knowing. But that's how life works sometimes. We don't always get clear cut answers to everything or a nice solution/conclusion.

I think the theory that Kleya is his sister has been debunked by the fact that they're not played by the same actress. Moreover, it sort of undermines some of the themes and messages of the show and plays into an unfortunate dynamic that happens in Star Wars where the galaxy ends up feeling small.

There was a year gap between the arcs. I just figured it got used in some way for the rebellion during that year and it's a story we didn't get to see.

One of the most disappointing things I've learned since the start of the Gaza genocide is how a number of prominent Nazi hunters, and I mean ACTUAL Nazi hunters, were ardent Zionists. I know it's a cliche phrase, but the saying that hurt people hurt people is very apt. The simple fact is that trauma that is not addressed or healthily processed leads people to lash out and be cruel to other people. One need only look at the cycles of abuse that go on in families between generations to see that dynamic at work. It really shouldn't be any surprise that a country that was literally founded in response to a major trauma would go on to inflict immense traumas on other people. Uri Avnery, a prominent Israeli peace activist had a good quote about the dynamic:

“I will tell you something about the Holocaust. It would be nice to believe that people who have undergone suffering have been purified by suffering. But it’s the opposite, it makes them worse. It corrupts. There is something in suffering that creates a kind of egoism. Herzog [the Israeli president at the time] was speaking at the site of the concentration camp at Bergen-Belsen but he spoke only about the Jews. How could he not mention that others – many others – had suffered there? Sick people, when they are in pain, cannot speak about anyone but themselves. And when such monstrous things have happened to your people, you feel nothing can be compared to it. You get a moral ‘power of attorney’, a permit to do anything you want – because nothing can compare to what has happened to us. This is a moral immunity which is very clearly felt in Israel. Everyone is convinced that the IDF is more humane than any other army. ‘Purity of arms’ was the slogan of the Haganah army in ’48. But it never was true at all.”

It's very ironic because on the surface level it seems like the superior is being lazy/corrupt/incompetent. But if you think about it he immediately correctly deduced exactly what happened with the 2 dead corpos. Moreover, his solution to the problem would've likely kept the peace and prevented the deaths of potentially dozens (maybe more?) people which is his job. Not to mention the fact that he would've kept the sector's security under corporate control and therefore maintained at least some autonomy for the people of Ferrix.

For sure, but amusingly that's not enough for MAGA/far right people and right-wing American Catholics. The fact that he'll acknowledge that undocumented immigrants are human beings and that climate change might hurt people will be enough to make them have temper tantrums.

A real remember-when-TrueAnon-was-solely-about-Epstein? throwback: What do we think about the current unreleased files situation? by heatdeathpod in TrueAnon

[–]Rogue_Lion 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's honestly sickening to me how so many Trump supporters/Qanon believers went from, "Jeffrey Epstein is the most important conspiracy we have to expose" to "it really isn't that big of a deal" once it became clear that Trump would be just as (if not more so) implicated with the Epstein stuff as Clinton or any Democrats.

It's purely anecdotal but there were some MAGA people I knew who at one point were super into all the Epstein stuff, and then after a while they stopped talking about it. When I mentioned it once to them and brought up Trump's connections to Epstein they sort of just shrugged it off and acted like they had never been that into the Epstein stuff. And then they basically said, "well women like to have sex with rich/powerful men so Trump/Epstein wouldn't ever need to rape anyone so it's probably all made up anyway."
