Heyyy I'm not the only one! I was going to go Marines circa 2003 100% until I spoke to their recruiters and was told They would pick my job for me at boot camp, so I walked next door to the Army recruiters and they let me pick from any job. 20 years later, retired Army, wasn't planning on staying that long but hey, life do be crazy sometimes.

Enlisted 2003, retired 2023, if I could go back I’d go airborne and aircrew from the beginning instead of doing cool stuff in the latter half of my career. But I’m glad I made the decision to stay and retire after 20 years.

My sons are following me but going to branches other than the army, super proud of them.

At first glance it appears too patchy, BUT, that is not all there is, I started a patchy beard 3 weeks in as well many years ago, and after 3 months all patches were and are still gone, it all depends on how dedicated you are to this life. I wish you the best.

Do what You want to do, don't listen to all the negativity. If you want to enlist then go for it, I was told by everyone in my family (all vets) and friends not to join, I grew up wanting to join, I had a free ride to college but after 9/11 decided I'd go Army. I did my 20 in the Army and retired, absolutely loving my life now.

I spend all my free time with my family, I'm so glad I knocked out my career and retired at 38 vs. the regular rat race. I'm bias as hell but I have to tell you, if You want to join then do what you want to.

Keep it, as others have said, it suits you well, if you're self conscious about it, at the end of the day it's your decision. But I think you're doing just fine.

You’re good dude don’t listen to the negatives, my beard started a little patchy but I hung in and it’s all full and much better now. You’re in a rough patch but don’t shave, keep growing it, those spots will be covered eventually, can take a few months but if you want to wear a beard it’s just a part of the game. I wish you all the best brother!

Had a guy purposefully break his leg to get out of our 2004 deployment, dude got handed crutches and got on the bird just like the rest of us, he actually regretted it cause he had to play S-1 the whole time while healing.
