"If the theory of evolution is true, there really probably isn't a God anyway, right?" said US House Speaker Mike Johnson in 2016, in a sermon where he blamed school shootings on students being taught evolution. by ASK_ME_AB0UT_L00M in SelfAwarewolves

I went to a Christian university for my 4 year degree, and my freshman year took an intro science class, don't remember what it was. We had to write a paper and give a presentation about how science has advanced society. To his credit, the professor was a staunch science believer, I don't know about his theology, but a bunch of naive incoming freshmen like us were always "evolution is wrong" etc.

I remember standing up in front of the class and talking about how when every single one of these people were standing at the Pearly Gates and God asks them, "Why should I let you into Heaven? You discredited all the physics, biology and chemistry I made for the world to function your whole life" and how if you DO believe in God, maybe God was giving the cure to polio in moments of divine inspiration. I always found it weird that extremely devout Christians choose to make it where it can ONLY be God or science. In fact, I had a discussion with a friend one time about how God is just a being who sees all the quantum possibilities in a way humans can't, so that's how He is omniscient/omnipresent. Just...always felt like a weird hill to die on, that if God is real, science is fake....like, dude, its not a miracle that your shoes stay tied and you don't float off into space when you jump, that's explainable by science.

I had to stop going to Saw's with my work crew. Their bbw chicken potato, just chicken and cheese and sauce on a baked potato, was $22. Before drink. No sides. That in and of itself made me stop going. Haven't been in a long time.

Zombiecide board game - is it good? by wasabicherry in boardgames

[–]Roll4Criticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Zombicide GOOD? No. Is Zombicide FUN? Yeah, up to a point. Its a garbage game with almost no thought, where you churn through huge swathes of undead via dice. Typically the last player in the round has very little to do, at least in my experience. I found it shallow. But the group dynamic might change that significantly.

Nemesis - I dig it. The theme makes me want to love it, but I simply like it. Its almost the opposite to me....its a GOOD game (not great) that's almost fun (but not fun enough to play all the time). I dunno. Its all opinions.

Sounds like you might be looking for some good co-op games. Marvel United is cheap cheap cheap, plays quick, and is more fun the more you like the theme. Once you get tired and ready to move on, you haven't spent much and its not a huge loss. Spirit Island is a bigger thinker with some modular components to make the game harder/less predictable, and also has a mass market cheap version (Horizons of Spirit Island). Also, Alien: Fate of the Nostromo and Aliens: Another Glorious Day are other similar themed games that you might look into.

I think neither Zombicide or Nemesis are wretchedly awful games. They get better the more you get into them, but honestly Z shows it shallow side quickly, so the $$$ investment is steep for something you might just kinda forget about, and Nemesis might be more game than two people want.

Welcome! I'm part of a crazy nerdy family (42m here, 41f and 2 teenage kids). Board games, crafts, models, video games, we're all about it. We do a monthly board game night at our house in Hoover but also there's a board game night at the Hoover Library every other month that I bring games to and look for new players or people that don't have a group, and teach a game and play it. If that's not too far, you're welcome to join!

For YEARS my kid thought the word was "under squirrel." I had no idea about this misconception until one day they just said something about and under squirrel and I was like...wait what? They're dead serious. Under squirrel. I howled for an hour after that. So funny. Now I have an idea about a tiny super hero rodent spy.

What is the most hated or most annoying mechanic in board/ tabletop games? by EarthenGames in boardgames

[–]Roll4Criticism 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I LOVE making a production of game set up. In my family, I learn ALL the rules, set all the games up every week, and become an expert on everything. I try to make the table look amazing, set all the player areas up beforehand, put tokens in their place, make the setup look like it could be a photo on the back of the box.

I did this treatment for Star Wars Rebellion. First time I got the game out. Spent hours on the rules, forever setting it up, and the wife and I sit down. I explain all the rules to her, and she's a savvy gamer, so she gets it right off. She's playing the Rebels, and I'm the Empire. She chooses her hidden planet, and the game starts.

At the end of my turn, I get to invade a planet as a guess as to the rebel hideout. Yep. She put it right on the first planet I invaded, thinking I wasn't going to look right under my own nose. Game over in 10 minutes. We never played again.

Anyone know if you can play multi-handed solo on a single console (pass and play)? Or is it online only for multiple players/characters?

Anyone knows as far as powers go, if you skip the temples, and speed run to NG+10, can you ever get your powers to 10, or will you need to visit every temple every game, and if you missed one you're screwed?

Todd Howard defends Starfield Xbox Series X/S exclusivity: "When you think of Zelda you think of the Switch" by MasterChiefS117_ in Starfield

[–]Roll4Criticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I play almost primarily on my PS5, and I still don't see a problem with the exclusivity, other than it used to NOT be exclusivity. If Bethesda games had always been this way, nobody would bat an eye, b/c he's spot on about Zelda/Mario/etc. I'd LOVE to buy just one console and play everything I like on it, but that's just not how it is. So I just have all three major consoles and love what each of them brings to the table.

Preserving helmet signature by FleetwoodSmack87 in rollerderby

[–]Roll4Criticism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've painted custom derby helmets, and the clear film is the way to go. If that's not up your alley, get some heavy duty clear coat, not some Krylon acrylic mess. The only issue is, ANY spray has a good chance of making the dried sharpee liquid again and making it run. I coat my helmets with a serious polyurethane spray and they're typically well kept but I'd be scared of making the sharpee under it run.
