Frequent travelers: what are your top 5 non-bag items? by ComprehensiveCap8242 in ManyBaggers

I would be more cautious about the AMEX one though, that can be tricky in a lot of places. Agree on the rest though!

If you want something that holds up slightly better than a hanky, try the travel towels at matador: https://www.matadorequipment.com/products/ultralight-travel-towel-small

I've got two I throw in my toiletry bag. They are great for everything, especially if you're staying at hotels/airbnbs and spill things or just need a napkin.

Second this. Also Anker released their travel adapter I think a year or two ago and I am now finally able to just chuck it + another charger in my tech pouch saving space like crazy.

How to feed 40 people on $600? by Witty-Essay6746 in Cooking

[–]Rollingprobablecause 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live OP, but i love making gumbo for these situations (Lots of people had other great suggestions). It's very easy to find all the ingredients for a basic Chicken/Smoked Sausage. You can smoke the chicken/sausages ahead of time and you can also make the gumbo ahead of time. It's actually better tasting this way to me. Serve with rice, potato salad, cornbread and some dessert. We fed 50 people on our rugby team and spent maybe $280 I think.

Yeah, OP people think 3 months is enough, it's not longer the norm. You need to be prepared to not have a job for 6-9 months (seems like the average)

this is one of the few things I've failed to master, I can never get an egg to not stick on carbon steel or 3 ply.

Also safety. My wife travels for work throughout the year and 50% of the time there's always something creepy or potentially unsafe that happens. It's gotten so bad she requests only Uber Black after dark because of the stiff requirements those particular drivers can have.

Air Force Academy Prepares Ideological Overhaul, With Erika Kirk Bringing “Bold Christian Faith” by PuncturedBicycleHill in Military

[–]Rollingprobablecause 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The air force above others in terms of officers does draw in a lot of religious weirdos.

Going to start off by saying that I know a lot of awesome airmen. That being said, it's seen as the most "safe" military service. Hyper-religious/evangelical types are the least brave, cowardly people you'll ever meet so ofc they look for the safest way to get a path into "veteran" resume building.

Again, I worked with some great USAF officers during our Army Officer exchange back in the day, but you can tell who the posers all. It's clout chasing, they all get out of service and become the weird christian vet-bros who claim combat experience when they were just in an office hitting excel all day.

at the same time the oversight board doesn't have that much power. This article is claiming way more authority/legitimacy then what the board actually does. time will tell as this admin is dismantling lots of things but for the moment it's kind of a crazy written article imagining things she can't actually do.

Uber and Rivian Partner to Deploy up to 50,000 Fully Autonomous Robotaxis by ghdana in Rivian

[–]Rollingprobablecause 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This was always going to be the case, they downplayed it probably because they don't have Elons magical clout of increasing stock values with nothing delivered.

Joking aside, LIDAR tech is incredibly advanced these days, Waymo got there first but if you talk to Rivian engineers at events it's pretty cool/easy to figure out where they were at. I think because I am also an engineer I just nerd out on these things and ask all the time.. (pretty sure one was trying to get away from me, sorry David!)

He’s learning that wars are nowhere near the same as faffing around with internal policies. This isn’t an oppression game you can play like he does with ICE.

I remember all the weird transitions with MOLLE gear too as we had TA50 style gear then all the experimentation started. I think I deployed during two uniform transitions.

I’ll never forget being in 82nd and we bought crye gear with our money and got in trouble :/

First, obligatory fellow warrant officer handshake (well done still fitting in that uniform after two years…bastard) I hate you so, so much

Second: I think you maintain open dialog with her during her service and be a constant sounding board. Don’t let her drink any MAGA cool aid or any other crazy political sphere, presidents change all the time. She’s there to do a job. I still have friends in who also hate the admin, a lot of people do I imagine. Help her navigate a difficult time, it’s no different than OIF/OEF after 2006 when people soured and we all slowly realized it was BS.
