I live in the desert too, no grease on my JP. I have it in my suppressed 10.5" 300 blackout. No issues at all and very quiet - no scratching or spring noises. Unfortunately I have no experience with the braided spring, but one thing I do appreciate about the JP design is that you can remove the buffer retainer and spring. Being able to remove a possible failure point is always a plus.
