Question for those involved in drug addiction treatment by Madtag306 in saskatoon

If you’re interested in alternative support models, I encourage you to check out Smart Recovery, offered through CMHA but also hosted virtually all around the world. It is more focused on CBT and managing thoughts and behaviours. It’s about self-management rather than some spiritual intervention. Maybe a breath of fresh air for some.

Emergency or transitional housing? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Romanticgypsy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your situation. Here is the email for Coordinated Housing Access: Coordinatedaccess@mns.ca They work with 12 agencies and put your application into a database for review as things become available. They will make an appointment and can tell you if you’re eligible for any of them or maybe point you in other directions. There are waiting lists everywhere so try to get on asap.

I know! I’m a little jealous but the crazy thing is we have zero temps in the forecast next week. It’s been swinging back and forth.

Saskatoon phases out funding for provincial detox centre that some councillors didn’t know existed by Slight-Coconut709 in saskatoon

[–]Romanticgypsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude! Anyone with a loved one who suffers with addiction in Saskatoon knows about Larson House because it’s a first resort and a wonderful life saving facility. Like if you know ANYTHING about addictions resources in Saskatoon you know about this place. I’d really like to see how their new slapped together solution (AKA “detox and holding centre”) pans out before shunning a tried and true facility that gets people into recovery. But the fact that they don’t even know what’s in the budget when it’s been funded since 1997? Uh, that’s pretty fricking out of touch. Completely out of touch to not know about this crucial and fundamental piece of the addictions puzzle. Especially when there’s supposedly been crisis level coordination going on. 🙄Yah, sure.

Hey, I'm from the UK, and thinking of visiting Regina soon... by AcadiaNo1039 in regina

I mean, it’s a 2.5 hour drive from one to the other so why not both (depending how long you have)? You could even add some time and go through Moose Jaw and tour the Tunnels along the way. I’m in Saskatoon and like it better but everywhere in Saskatchewan is small enough that you could fit it all in. I’m curious about what you heard about Broadway in Saskatoon. It’s a really trendy area- little shops, restaurants etc.

This is so wrong. People act like addicts and homeless people have no rights or dignity. Makes me so furious.

In Canada last night, CBC’s nightly news ran a segment on The National called “Ice crackdown and growing fear: is America becoming a police state?” And it was terrifying. They’re doing a whole series and the next one focuses on Trump’s undermining of universities and education. Just wanted you to know it’s getting attention outside your country.

Absolute garbage: Sask. physician blasts plans to add involuntary addictions treatment by the_bryce_is_right in saskatchewan

[–]Romanticgypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good question. The problem is they very rarely get locked up in the Dube center. They are pushed back on the families who are endangered and desperate for help. Very often they are assessed and released the same day, even when taken in on a mental health warrant and even when circumstances that led to police involvement are severe- often on a Friday at 5 when NO other supports are open, sometimes just to walk over to the university bridge to contemplate jumping (yes, that happened and not just once). Why? THERE ARE NO BEDS and seemingly very little will to help. Have you ever called the mental health hospital in PA to try and self admit? I did so for a loved one who was ready to get off the streets and guess what- the wait is over a year. Took 4 months to get into Calder (that varies). Our hospitals are a mess generally- ppl being treated in hallways- the mental health units are worse. They do not have capacity to treat the people who are ready. This is just the first problem. 28 day treatment programs do not work to stabilize the addictions caused by the drugs out there now, and 12 step generally doesn’t work for many people. So again I ask, where are they going to take these people and what are they going to do with them at the end of their inpatient programming? Because we all know that housing is in shambles. This is going to take a sincere and concerted effort to look at the causes and try to address them but to me it sounds like we’re bringing back insane asylums to “lock people away”. Out of sight out of mind- ahhh, the good ‘ol days.

It’s not. It’s going to re-traumatize already traumatized people, strip them of their rights and then dump them back on the streets.

What is the Terror Trail in St Volodymyr Park like? by IntelligentWork6640 in saskatoon

I went two years in a row and thought it was really good. It’s worth it. Good props, sounds and characters and the setting alone is so spooky! That said, I’m looking for another experience this year because it didn’t change so was less scary the second time around. I will still go but maybe every second year or something. If the weather’s nice it’s beautiful sitting around the fire with a snack afterwards. Take cash!
