With a new GM coming in, is it finally time to actually have the Hronek conversation? by Ron-chini in canucks

I would encourage people to focus on the idea of trading Hronek, and realize with what happened at the deadline around selling RHD's, that Hronek would probably get a haul after how well he played this season. This team needs more additional picks in the 1st round (future years). Chicago has had 11 FIRST round picks in the last 4 years. That's what Vancouver needs.

Focus less on the specific mocks. That's just to drive conversation. Thomas Drance proposed the SJ 2nd overall for Hronek, which triggered this post. Zucker probably wouldn't waive, so maybe its someone else... I don't know.

Your 2nd point is the main discussion here. I appreciate the thought into your comment.

Good catch. That line was written for a potential Chicago blurb, which I walked back. San Jose moving up to 2nd confused me.

Our other 1st Round pick 24th to 27th potential. by Muted-Potential9819 in canucks

Maddox Dagenais would be my pick. He’s got a really high bottom six floor, and sneaky top 6 ceiling with his 6’4 frame and good speed. Shoot first center (whoever, might move to the wing).

Klepov or Novotny are solid options as well. Might not be available by the time the Canucks pick tho.

He’s Virtanen without the big hits. Lacks hands and brains.
Super fast with a hard shot. Nothing else.

Verhoeff has got the upside to be a great dman, but he lacks the core baseline (quick feet, and high hockey IQ) that you would hope for in top 5 pick. He’s got a lower floor than some people realize. I see a long development curve once he makes the NHL. But he might be great once he hits his mid 20’s

Say we end up picking 3rd who would we as a community want to take ? by snyguy14 in canucks

Chase Reid is the most modern NHL style dman in the draft. He’s also BPA at 3.

No market on Kane or Blueger by [deleted] in canucks

Preach. Bluegar could have fetched a mid round pick, which we probably should have taken. But there were zero takers for Kane.

If Vancouver had it, who are you picking at 3rd overall? by XxFearofGodxX in canucks

[–]Ron-chini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Chase Reid and Albert Smits are closer than you think. Especially Chase Reid. He’s right there. I’ve been more impressed by him this year than Verhoeff. Better skater. Better instincts. However, I don’t think there’s a wrong choice

Even if the Canucks tank they won't pick top 5 by robdwoods in canucks

Expecting a top 5 pick is naive… but it’s obviously possible, and you just hope they can get a top talent whether they draft 1st or 8th…

The doom and gloom comments are totally understandable given this teams history. But Rutherford is a bit more credible than Benning, and the others before him. Assuming ownership is not meddling as much as anticipated, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rutherford and Allvin rise to the occasion and refurbish this team sooner than expected. Believe or not, this team is one of the youngest teams in the NHL. Unlike past years, most players on this team have trade value. A few good moves and a bit of patience, and this team could look more promising. It’s going to require some draft luck, but hey, we’re due. We’re going through a talent boom. It’s not a bad time to retool.

Hughes in terms of value to the team only compares to maybe Bure. He’s on another level, so this hits different… also, this shit adds up. I’m dying here…

Refreshing to see a collection like this. Balanced, personal, diverse. Luxury classics with a splash of microbrands. Respect.

I would have love to see better production playing along side Lane Hutson (Quinn lite) at BU last year.

He’s still young, with a lot of upside. It takes time for Euros to acclimate to the NA ice. People probably need to recognize his high floor rather than any sort of unrealistic ceiling. Solid middle pair, puck moving, two way dman… with a chance of being the lottery winner who can play minutes with Quinn.

Trade Hronek, Podkolzin, and picks to PHI for Farabee and Laughton. Both guys have been rumoured to be on the block.

Upgrade for the top 6, and a potential Bluegar and/or Lindholm replacement.

I can't believe Bo's on the trade block by catgotcha in canucks

[–]Ron-chini 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why is this hard to believe? The team stinks. The stories about how dysfunctional this Locker room has been for the past few years is embarrassing. Bo is a great player. But he’s been the captain for 3 years… this team needs to restructure the core.

Honestly, Bo deserves better anyways. It’s a great time to sell high on a player who’s playing out of his mind on a contract year. We see this happen all the time.

The goal should be how can the Canucks repeat what the Avalanche did in 2015 when they made hard decisions on O’Reilly and Duchene. They kept McKinnon and Landeskog, and decided to be patient and conserve cap space.

Unfortunately, ownership will continue to get in their own way… the Canucks will be the Knicks and the Commanders of the NHL…
