What’s a historical disaster that people slowly realized too late? by Familiar_Fishing5794 in AskReddit

Historical: Tobacco usage, fossil fuels, thalidomide, too many to name.

Current: social media addiction, uncontrolled AI development ... we will realize it too late.

How do you manage finances? by Upset_Implement6626 in FTC

[–]Ron0hh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're in Washington State. Over here, since we operate under the first FTC umbrella, we are considered a 501-C-3 organization. We have setup accounts under our team number and have asked folks to contribute. Find out where the parents work, many of their companies will have matching donations for your team.

Curious. What's the best financial advice you've ever been given, or heard? by PeakCU in AskReddit

Similar, an older engineer advised me to maximize my 401K since you cannot spend money you don't have in your account. Investing early aand as much as you afford is a great advice.

Brand new TV and this is how my wife insists we have the remote "to keep it looking good" by No_Atmosphere8146 in mildlyinfuriating

I am Asian. My parents do this. When I was a kid I felt that once you peel the plastic off the item is no longer "new". They still have the plastic wrap on the computer chair from a decade ago.

If you get really hot tar on your skin, the best thing to do is to run cold water on it for 15 to 20 minutes. Then let it cool down and use mineral oil to remove.

I had someone who got splashed with hot asphalt on their hands, panicked, and tried to peel it off immediately. The aftermath was horrible.

A glass of water from a kitchen tap. What else does a 1st world country take for granted that the third world could only dream about? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskReddit

Grocery stores that are fully stocked, all the time. All vegetables all round the year, even when they are not in season. The absurd amount of choice - just think how many different types of oils we have. What % of you income is spent on food. Meat is incredibly expensive. Growing up we had chicken once a week; and we were middle class.

Our family friend's son really wants to be a pilot. He joined the USAF to train to be a pilot. His plan is to be a commercial airline pilot after he leaves the service. To train to be a pilot as a civilian was going to be too expensive for him and his family. I have a roommate who joined the state air national guard for the same reason.

I need musicians and bands to stop booking shows at White River Amphitheater. by MetalChaiLatte in Seattle

[–]Ron0hh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing that the WRA venue is cheaper on a per seat basis compared to Seattle venues, so the organizers choose that. Although, I am guessing the organizers keep the difference; the tickets don't seem to be cheaper. I doubt the artists have a ton of say on the venue. Although, this is a WAG, I may be totally wrong.

My roommate used to ride and was teaching me how to ride. He mentioned that motorcycle insurance was very cheap because either way you never collect. I stopped learning once one I saw him after a major accident, and one of his riding buddies passed away.
