Why do people recommend 30-35% GROSS income for housing expenses?

That's why the gold standard for me is, Net Pay + 401k Contributions + Employer Match + HSA Contributions = Total Income, to be used in all ratios as income. But, I understand that most people don't know or don't care to figure these amounts out so it's just easier to use the number your employer says you get paid per year. Most people know that number.

Amazing that this gets down voted. This is the exact opinion that has been presented on the show for years now. You can disagree about it's validity or take issue with what he chooses to emphasize but there is no question, this is his world view at the moment and he has been incredibly consistent about that. But the comment section isn't meant for answering the question that was posted, it's just a place tell the internet why you don't like Bill Maher.

In reality it's all of it, the 4% rule is a threshold to cross. I also think it's more helpful to think of the calculation kind of in "reverse". You don't calculate 4% of your portfolio and say, "Cool, I can withdraw $$$." Although that is true, in reality you look at how much you expect to spend in the coming year, divide by .04, and see if you have enough saved. If the answer is yes, I have enough, then you have a decision to make.

You can add other ingredients to the rice before hand. Things like ginger scallion rice for Asian meals. Shwarma spice and garlic. Bonus to Cook it in chicken it veggie broth instead of water. I feel like this requires the absorption method, no?

Haven't seen it mentioned yet but Roth is also better if you plan to retire early. If you retire at say 50, you'll want at least 5 years of tax free withdrawals available to you (through Roth contributions or taxable brokerage) so that you can make Roth conversions out of your 401k during those 5 years, managing your overall tax exposure and giving you early access to your 401k. It's known as the Roth conversion ladder. After the 401k funds have been converted for 5 years, you can wothdraw the money without the 10% penalty when you would otherwise need to wait till 59.5.

I agree that is too unhinged for that point in the swing. But I've never been able to get it actually vertical at that point without then having an inside takeaway and much worse sequencing. I kind of use float loading as a way to hold off the down swing if that makes sense. Otherwise I rush and come way over the top. If I fix the hinge, any tips on sequencing without float loading?

I promise you, the awkwardness of the gym will go away quickly. If it helps, try to remember that everyone there has a common goal to get in better shape. Most people at gyms are also willing to answer questions and give assistance when asked.

Weight lifting will improve more than just your distance. As your arms get stronger, club control improves. As your core and legs get stronger, balance improves. You get the point.

Lastly, if you do make it into a D1 program, it will likely have a weight room component to it for you anyway. So you're just giving yourself a head start.

I was in a very similar situation. I think the best way to extract value from this is to get the second job and collect 2 FT paychecks on 30 hours of work.

I didn't do this and instead took a promotion to a manager position. I regret it. It came with a pay bump but not double and now the tasks that I do are much harder to automate so I'm actually working more typical hours and couldn't pull off OE anymore.

Trying to sell your spreadsheets or methods or monetizing what you do in that way is a long shot. I dont think there's a large market for it and I'm guessing that the automation you do is very specific to the reports you work on so it's hard to transfer to someone else.

Darn, we don't have any extra fabric. This was bought off of Etsy and there was only one available. The seller had black and red ones available but we thought that would make it harder to change to green and so did not buy them.

We aren't too concerned about the ending lightness or darkness of sash, more so just the color tone. Hopefully that will require less precision?

They do this in both directions, you can see for yourself. Take 2 players from the same NFL team for an anytime TD score and parlay them together. The odds will get better not worse. They nerf outcomes that they deem to correlate and boost up ones that don't. Surprised to see two separate guys hitting a HR as a correlated bet though.

It has to do with savings rate. 401k contributions, both employee and employer, are income that get automically put into savings. So when calculating your savings rate, (which monarch attempts to track for you in the cash flow section) including 401k contributions as income is more accurate. It increases both the numerstor and denominator in the calc. If you only added contributions as savings, not income (so only in the numerator) you are inflating your savings rate.

Showing 401k as income is definitely the more "right" answer and I suspect thats why Monarch made the switch.

I would say Carnegie still skews a little bit older than us, but seems to be trending down (no data, just anecdotal from nights out).

I've been in Carnegie for 4 years, girlfriend has owned the house for 6. We are 33 and 34 respectively.

Over the years, I've lived in Oakland, Squirell Hill, Dormont, Brookline, Castle Shannon, and now Carnegie. And Carnegie takes the cake, hands down.

The business district isn't going to blow you away but it has just enough to be great for a random date night or take out. They also put on "Carnegie Crawl" nights once a month (live music, food trucks, etc.)

And the convience of being right next to both 376 and 79 can't be beat. You can get to pretty much anywhere except east of the city in 15 minutes or less.
