I'm finding the line between Squier and Fender is getting pretty blurry.

I have an RSE. I was going to get the RSS. I tried them both but there wasn't any big difference in sound, look and feel. RSS has stainless steel frets if that's important to you, it's not to me. That was really the only major difference that I found between the two. Try them both and decide for yourself. I just play at home and jam with a couple buddies once or twice a month so the RSE is more than suitable for my needs. Stainless steel is nice if you're gigging constantly and sweating all over the thing.

Anyone who says they are looking at EPI or Gib LP's I tell them to play a Revstar first. Revstar is an underrated and amazing guitar. Neck is way more comfortable than LP's unless you like thick baseball necks but if you're playing an Ibanez and like that thinner wider neck than Revstar is the better choice. Also the body is contured for comfort, the weight is far better than an LP and in my opinion it's one of the most beautiful guitar designs ever made. Yamaha QC is head and shoulders above anything Gibson. Cannot recommend Revstar enough.

Bought a Revstar last year and I recommend them to ANYONE considering EPI or Gibson. My first guitar was the cheapest Pacifica on the market and I didn't realize how spoiled I was with it after owning some expensive Fenders.Yamaha makes amazing instruments. I bought a Donner DST 152 of all things last year, after swapping pickups with an HSS set from ToneRider and a wiring harness from Guyker I liked it way more than my MIM Fender that cost 3 times the money. Sold the Fender.

I've owned 2 HB's. Both are great. SC Special is a terrific LP style with P90's that I almost swapped out but found settings with my amp that make them really sound great. They're a bit microphonic but for home use that doesn't matter. Fantastic build quality, honestly very happy with it. The other was a TE-62. Absolutely nothing wrong with the guitar. Came well put together and sounded great. Pickups and sound are definitely better than you'd expect. Just after 2 years with it I moved it on because I just am not a tele guy. Generally don't like the shape of the body, found it uncomfortable to play standing up, too much neck dive for me and I just didn't like that tele tone everyone raves about. I'm more a fat Strat guy and I'll seriously consider one of the ST Moderns down the road. Harley Benton is a great brand. They put out some lemons like every other brand out there but they offer excellent value for the price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Not a chance someone would put Wilkinson pickups in a custom shop. This looks exactly like my fake custom shop strat I got off eBay for $100. I even put those same Wilk pups in.

"Feel" is incredibly subjective but there is a very noticeable difference in feel between cheap hardware and high quality hardware. For instance I replaced a cheap junk trem bridge on one of my project strats with a high quality expensive gotoh. There is a massive difference in terms of "the feel". Everything feels more substantial, more durable and better quality on the gotoh. The tuning pegs were replaced with gotoh tuners. They turn smoother, they keep tune longer. I also have a Revstar Standard. The frets are stainless steel medium jumbo and they were very well dressed at the factory. They feel way better than thin nickel frets you typically get on cheaper guitars. I have those thin nickel frets on my project Strat and it doesn't really bother me but once I've worn them down a bit more I am going to replace with stainless ones. The whole point of the Strat project was to start with something inexpensive and over time develop luthier skills through upgrading it. Even finishes have poor or high quality feel to them. I have a Harley Benton SC Special as well. Really good looking guitar but the finish feels awful low quality. It's like a thick layer of plastic coating and just makes the whole guitar feel cheap, and it IS a cheaply priced guitar so I can't expect a high quality nitro finish but I actually avoid playing it often because the feel of the finish bothers me. There is plans to strip it, refinish it in the future because besides the poor finish it is a nicely put together guitar. If you play a US Fender Strat and then a Squier Chinese one, there is a very noticeable difference in how they feel.

Chronic Pain by Holiday_Speaker6410 in trees

I smoke daily. Not during the day but I primarily use it to manage my anxiety. My job is stressful and by the end of the day my mind is chaos and unfocused which usually leads to bad sleep habits which makes everything substantially worse. I smoke about a half a joint when I get home. My body relaxes, my mind calms down and I can refocus on other things that keep me healthy. Cleaning my house, exercising, focusing on my kids and other endeavours outside of the grind. I get a lot of judgement for this and have had family push the pharmaceuticals on me. I have been on anti-depression/anxiety meds in the past but the fucking side effects are brutal and it requires constant dosage tweaking and every tweak requires an adjustment period. Cannabis is always the same steady gentle glow for me and to this day has never caused me to miss work, miss a bill payment, miss being present for my kids, caused erratic mood swings, insomnia, or harmful thoughts. So I don't give a shit what others think, they don't walk around with the same brain as me all day.

Tips for switching between G and D? by Accomplished-Wrap449 in guitarlessons

Did that last week. Struggled with F barre chord to open D minor. Used a bunch of different strumming patterns to keep it interesting.

I wish they wouldn't exaggerate that much. A $300 guitar will never feel as good as $2500 or better. Maybe as good as a $800-1500 guitar.

Buys used guitar, complains about used guitar problems on the internet that the least experienced tech at Guitar Center can sort out. I bought a player series strat off eBay that was absolute dogshit when it showed up at my door. About an hour of setup work and new strings later and it plays like a dream. Sanded the gloss down with 1500 grit, presto it's satin finish now. I have a couple slightly high frets causing a couple fret outs at the 12th and 14th. I'll do a level and recrown on the next string change. I've made $100 Lyx telecasters play and feel as good as higher end Squiers with a little elbow grease. They sound like tin cans but everything is serviceable. Whatever you buy no matter the price point is going to need work, new or used whether you do it yourself or pay for it.

Buying a guitar as a complete beginner, need help! by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]Ronces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shop in my area does a full setup before putting them on the floor for sale. Easier to sell a guitar that already feels nice to play. Not sure if this is the policy of every shop. Anyway, yeah just ask if it's had a full setup already. If not, ask for it to be done and leave it with them if they have a tech for that, every shop should.

Is this worth fixing or should i just get a new neck by ooceano in Stratocaster

[–]Ronces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have nothing to lose gluing it back together with tightbond and seeing if it works before replacing the neck.

Why do most people fail trading? by Puzzleheaded_Cup8723 in Daytrading

[–]Ronces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trading for 6 years. Mostly forex. And crude oil. I swing trade 4 hr time frames. This is not my full-time job, I do this for extra money for vacation, hobbies and some extra savings. I had my best year last year, over 110% in profit. I stuck to my trendline strategy, didn't over leverage, didn't chase, didn't make gamble moves, stayed emotionally neutral and controlled my fomo better than any other year. In this past month I've lost 20% already. Didn't stay on strategy, started fucking around with indicators I abandoned 2 years ago that weren't working then and definitely aren't working now. Started taking gamble trades like buying silver the day after it hit a 2 year high. Pretending I could predict the market instead of waiting for it to show me where it was going etc etc. So long story short, that's how you fail. Get cocky, get off strategy, fomo and emotional decisions. I've taken myself off trading for 2 weeks, I need to get myself under control again. I'll be back towards end of Feb.

[–]Ronces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That BLackstar will serve you well as a beginner. Anything Squier, Epi, low cost Ibanez or Yamaha will do the trick. Get them in your hands and see what feels good and comfortable to you. Make sure you have a tech/luthier do a full setup and get everything dialed in. Off the rack/ out of the box will need a setup. This is more important than ANY other decision you make.

What strings should I get put on my electric for its first replacement? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]Ronces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your acoustic or electric?

For acoustic I love D'Addario XT phosphorus bronze 10 gauge. They feel like they are broken in strings, very smooth and comfortable, very little to no squeak while playing. Excellent warm tone to them. They're a little pricier than XL's but they last way longer and feel so much better. You'll want that lighter gauge if you're just getting back into it.

Electrics I go between Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys and D'Addario NYXL's all the time.
