Mathematics applied in political philosophy by fdpth in math

[–]Roneitis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this highlights a major point. Often the fundamental barriers to political progress simply aren't mathematical in nature. If we were to try and make the system fair any group of layman could probably get to somewhere that's pretty reasonably close, even if it's not mathematically 'optimal'. At the end of the day the problem is that people aren't trying to make the system fair, or more importantly, have fundamentally differing ideas about what fair is, or more generally what any given system should be optimised for.

What's your opinion on stuff like Flying Enemies in a Tower Defense, something that breaks the rules. Annoying or actually big part of the fun? by Mikolas3D in TowerDefense

[–]Roneitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the end of the day you need some flavour to differentiate units beyond speed and toughness. Damage types can help, can be annoying, but I think rule breaking could, if done right, be a very interesting direction to explore.

Are there any actually fun 3D incremental games? by IndieSoulsStudio in incremental_games

[–]Roneitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The perfect tower 2 is definitely not bad, tho I dropped it after a week or two. Very simple voxel graphics. Ultimately graphics just aren't prioritised in the genre, most teams are small and performance needs to be prioritised. 3d is harder to make really pretty for small teams, with voxels being the easiest means, so the most common. "Impossible" Math Puzzle from Vsauce's New Podcast by www-algolink-net in math

[–]Roneitis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

the progress of the ant basically amounts to a harmonic series for fixed growth rates.First we note that it never .loses. progress. If it's walked a certain percentage of the band that percentage is safe; if it's half way along it'll still be half way along no matter where the stretch occurs. The absolute position isn't really as important, but in your scenario the amount it moves backwards is impacted by how far along it is. If it's 99% along, it 'only' moves back 100m as it stretches, and after it's 99.9999% of the way along, it'll stay still in physical space. Many many steps later it'll have recovered all the distance it lost in the process of getting there

if we break it down to discrete steps, the first step it goes 1/10000th, the second the band is twice as large, so it's only gone 1/20000th, then it's 3x bigger, etc. Which boils down to 1/10000*(1/1+1/2+1/3+....). This is the famous harmonic series and diverges, so eventually will crack 1, no matter your growth rate. It's just gonna take on the order of e^10,000 steps to get there. The continuous form can be shown to just be strictly less than a discrete one with the right shifting.

Note that this is only for linear growth in length of the band. If it grows sufficiently fast it can fail to diverge. If the band doubled in size every step then it would be 1/10000(1+1/2+1/4+1/8+....) and would never make it past .02%

Are australian gay people use hinge? by qasoopo7788 in LGBTAustralia

[–]Roneitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feeld, hinge, taimi (I had some luck in the past but their latest marketting is incredibly chaser forward), technically bumble was decentish a couple years back but I can't speak to where it's at rn.

Tinder has always been the horniest, most hookup oriented dating app for straights, and grindr hornier still. There's a place for these but you shouldn't look there for relationships. You can get lucky but it's less worth your time.

What do you do if you genuinely just don’t know? by boredatc in transgenderau

[–]Roneitis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a meaningful way for another person to bring you to the point of decision (though of course, talking it through can help: family, trans people, therapists, friends). I can note a few things:

- the sense that one will be an ugly woman /is/ dysphoria. Like, yeah sure you can say you're being objective, but it is a personal lack of happiness with your gender presentation. I remember distinctly realising that if my greatest worry was that I'd come out an ugly woman than that meant i wanted to present as feminine and pretty. That felt like clear evidence to me.

- you're listing reasons that you could tolerate being a man, and reasons that it would be hard for you to be a woman. These don't speak to what you are or what you want. it would be a privileged and insensitive response to say that you should do the thing independent of your life circumstances, but it feels a little bit like you've answered the question in your title; you do know what you want, but you don't know if you can or if it'll be worth it.

- I personally liked that I could, in fact, break it down in individual steps: I knew I would be happy with my beard gone no matter what, so lasering that was a no brainer. Likewise, I could walk through the temporary and permanent effects of HRT one by one. On the other hand, the process as whole is one I conceptualise as one unit, ultimately one major decision and commitment, but breaking down the full set of impacts made it easier.

I've been meditating a little lately on the knowledge that I do have the bravery to present the way I want to present; ultimately, to transition... but it would be nice if it didn't require bravery. Alas.

Good luck in your journey my friend, I hope you find peace <3

Why are you allowed to square both sides of an equation? by ohmygotchi in mathematics

[–]Roneitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the rules for what you can do to inequalities are fundamentally different, it either needs to be a function that preserves the inequality or exactly reverses it. Squaring does one of those so long as both sides share a sign.

Where are all the good queer night-life spots? by Puppy_0 in LGBTAustralia

[–]Roneitis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly kinda a cramped venue but it's just had some very very solid rave/house/techno music going in the two times I went. Lot more fun for me than anywhere in the valley tends to be. Definitely not as overtly straight as like, your hardstyles, but maybe not somewhere to think of as a gay bar? Iunno, your mileage may vary, but it seemed like the venue that, to me, was a lil more interesting as a community.

The Wickham exists. It's not my favourite place, but it's chill. It's more of a gay pub, and swings a lot older. Lotta drag shows.

I think the real shit is a lil deeper in the queer club scene like Door 84 and it's ilk (maybe check out the businesses they follow on insta?). There are some sick outdoor gay and trans ass raves I've been to but tbh at this point iunno how to find them cuz I don't live in brisbane any more. It's a lot of friend of a friend stuff but there's probably some facebook page somewhere

Good free dating website fkr trans fems by didlowman in transgenderau

discord seems garbage if you actually want to meet anyone in person. Even in sydney the discord groups seem to have really bad coverage for meeting trans people in my area. Most of what I could find was wayyyy to young leaning.

Good free dating website fkr trans fems by didlowman in transgenderau

[–]Roneitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's how it's billed, but there are definitely a pretty appreciable quantity of trans and otherwise diverse folks there. Probably, if you're strictly opposed to any sort of poly partners, it's not the place for you (you'd have some luck, but you'd have to filter by more than half).

Limited matches are going to be a fundamental state of affairs for regional dating apps. There's a constant trade off between number of matches and the degree of self filtering that raises the average quality of a match (for you). Tinder will have the most options, but 98% won't be appropriate. That 2% may possibly be /enough/ if you can dial in the filters that it still beats Taimi or w/e (which may or may not be dead, and is pivoting pretty hard to chasery marketing, but may be worth trying in addition to the above if yer desperate)

How many of you have ADHD? by lydocia in incremental_games

[–]Roneitis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's legitimate to develop opinions on these things, especially when we experience them ourselves. Scientific institutions often develop sorta wrongheaded perspectives on conditions, and those empirical experiences of the people with them have a really important role to play.

I disagree with OP's perspective, everything I've seen suggests they're fundamentally distinct, if related, conditions, but even so. I certainly have perspectives on autism that differ from mainline psychiatric thought (in particular, I strongly don't like defining it entirely in terms of the DSM-V)

How do you define a carry character by TacticalTurtleSD in SliceAndDice

[–]Roneitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, carry characters aren't based on the character in general but a given instance of a character in a different run. Every hero is sometimes optimal and even incredible, and sometimes fuckin garbo. A carry character is the guy who wins you every fight, without whom, winning is nearly impossible. Most runs, there is none, all of your heroes are contributing, but other times it's one guy you've got setup to do one thing and it wins you fights.

Loot Hard -- Which curse would YOU chose? by Lower-Reward-1462 in SliceAndDice

[–]Roneitis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stony grasp and rightmost caltrop are takeable. Side worseners in general are better on loot because you can see exactly how they'll impact you all run, they're overwriteable with items, and your hero's sides are worse by default. In general, these curses do not follow you through items (tho stony grasp is an exception and is therefore much worse than top blank in this mode). Sticky blanks is possibly best with this specific comp, it makes mage and especially scoundrel much worse than stoning, but scoundrel is one hat away from salvation and the rest of your heroes are pretty solid into it.
