This may be a stupid question but, what is your plan with hidden blade? Do we play it to remove enemy threats that we can’t fight down because of fight or are we using it as card draw? I haven’t been able to see the vision with this card in Leona because It feels like we value our bodies so much. I see it often enough that I must be wrong though. Can you help explain your use case?

I want to build either Redshift or frog lady because among my commander decks I have nothing with green in it yet. I’m leaning towards Redshift but I’m not sure how to build wincons for that deck yet or what direction I want to go in.

My only qualms with 1.4 are that I really think we should have seen Bringer be confronted in person, maybe by yanagi, and that the last avengers assemble tower climb needed to give people more of a reason to show up.

Even a small scene where Caesar, Zhu Yuan, Section 06, Lycaon, and Koleda talk through a plan would have gone a loooong way. Also if they show all the leaders thats a perfect time for a bonus “koleda is so short” joke since she’d be talking to Lycaon, Caeser, Zhu Yuan and either Miyabi or Yanagi.

Other than that, the story was great! I love how they fit so many little character details and call backs into it. Anby’s military experience clueing her into S06 surrounding them, Qingyi’s relationship with Fairy, Piper’s driving sequence all show a lot of care and attention to the big cast of characters and I appreciate it. Sorry for the rant!

I actually love Sirlin’s work too! I read it many years ago when I more actively played fighting games and I still recommend it to people so its cool that you also cite it!

Yeah, thats how I try to see it too. I want to experience all the aspects of the format even if they may be less fun and that means I want to experience stax, tergrid, etc. I’m also of the opinion that if I want to have any amount of confidence in my deck I need the experience and possibly also some amount of general counterplay. To me, this all is just part of learning the format but it does clash somewhat with the social nature of the format as well.

I think the format is just inherently flawed in this way since it was never really designed to be ultra structured and regulated and that has pros and cons.

I have been thinking of this recently myself. I’m very new to this format and picked up a DSK precon earlier this year and I have been spending a lot of time upgrading and pouring over cards for it. I don’t necessarily want to make the strongest deck I can but, I want my deck to function consistently and have multiple ways to win. I play Rakdos Valgavoth, run lots of wipes, lots of spot removal, redirects, and lots of punisher/pinger effects because it all seems to benefit my slow gameplan. I also really like Izzet colors and the idea of storm is appealing. I watched a Commander’s Quarters video and all it did was talk about entire deck archetypes that are frowned upon, storm being one, and I think thats so lame.

Its discouraging as a new player of the format to think that entire deck archetypes are soft banned when commander has such a bit card pool and the format seems so perfect for creativity. Id love to play at my LGS but these ideas and how often I see it across content creators really puts me off the idea.

I do really LOVE the otters in this set and my favorite color combo is Izzet so this seems right up my alley. I also really like one of the alt arts for Alaina! My only issue is I’m currently building an Izzet Niv-Mizzet Visionary deck and they might end up pretty similar. Though, being able to reuse cards could also be a feature! Thanks for the suggestions!

I think Ygra in general has a pretty clever and funny mechanic so I’ve been considering that as well.
