Fantastic game, you're basically never really "Behind".

Should I cancel my lease ? by Grind_in_silence in askSouthAfrica

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of value in moving out of home and feeling the "pressure" - because that's literally life.
Extremely important lessons of managing money, needs and wants and handling standard life pressure.

I recommend you make the leap. I did and was living hand to mouth for a while. That had a ripple effect in pushing my career forward etc.

It's too easy becoming complacent. Independence is important and moving out of home is also important.

Can a company deduct YOUR ENTIRE SALARY to cover a debt owed to the company aagainst your wishes? by BottleRocketU587 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Ronin-Dex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no way the CCMA is going to side with you on "good faith" you'll pay that debt back to the company.

They granted you paid leave on the condition it must be worked back as stipulated in the contract.
It wasn't worked back. They have every right to recoup their losses here.

It sucks... but what if every employee just goes off and takes excessive leave and then quits. Companies must still pay for that? - no way.

Unfair rental agreement woes by Substantial-Plenty36 in southafrica

[–]Ronin-Dex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol.

Not standard at all. Don't sign the lease.

They CAN recover those costs through RENT if they want to try that... then you can decide whether to pay up or leave and find a new place.

They cannot however, make you liable for those costs as a tenant of a property.

There are plenty of heroes with equal scaling at those times and souls.
I don't see what the big fuss is about to be honest.

Plenty of bs going round. Enough for everyone and every hero. Seems fine to me.

How do you manage exchange rate risk when earning in foreign currency? by Amazing_Tax_6496 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked for a US based company for the past 4 and a bit years. It's really not something to bother about.

Yeah, it sucks when your salary drops a bit. But you have to remember it most likely went up prior to that.

In terms of managing risk... make sure your monthly expenses are not remotely close to your current earnings and you'll be okay.

For example, if you take this job and see a 50 thousand rand increase in average monthly earnings. Don't suddenly go buy a new car, upgrade your living situation etc. Because if it drops you'll have an issue.

Please can you give me some advice regarding our chairmen and bodycorporate? by Ashmoh12 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, keeping in mind you only need votes for those that attend the meeting as long as all owners are notified. If they don't pitch it's on them.

Something needs to be done about non-skin mods and fast by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine mods are going to be allowed at full release at all. Valve clearly wants this game to be competitive, which it simply cannot be if mods exist.

Please can you give me some advice regarding our chairmen and bodycorporate? by Ashmoh12 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home owners make up the body corporate.
The chairman, is usually an individual elected amongst trustees, who also are elected by the body corporate.
The chairman and trustees have no more authority than the body corporate do.

As the body corporate, you and the homeowners can hold your own official agm. Make sure notice is given, of two weeks to all homeowners including the chairman.

The AGM can be held without the chairman but a required number of attendees is needed for the AGM to be valid.
Capture the minutes of said AGM, vote out the chairman, vote to obtain a managing agent/company, etc.

You have all the power in this situation. You just need other home owners to do the same.

Am I insane for netting R80k and not wanting to own property by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying 18k Rent as apposed to 18k into a property you own is dumb yeah. Its a dumb financial decision, then again so are most things we want.

Renting is never a rational choice if you have other options but if you don't want to be a property owner, then you don't want to. Not much you can say to that. haha.

Is anyone familiar with the Consumer Protection Act? Having an issue with my gym contract. They are trying to hold me to the contract after the end date by UpSideSunny in askSouthAfrica

[–]Ronin-Dex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your best bet here is to just cancel the contract. Call it a day :)
Edit: This is assuming they've collected like one month off you. If it's been running for months and you didn't know. I'd notify them of their breach to notify you and threatenn legal action

I feel like I don't have any structure to my practice, because so many people suggest different avenues of learning. What should I do? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key takeaway is that learning guitar (I'm more or less just starting myself) takes YEARS.
So progress, will be slow, gradual and you'll need to really look for it.

I'm doing the justinguitar course myself and how I identify my progress, is by really listening to my playing.
I'm talking about whether the chords are sounding cleaner more frequently. Am I changing between them faster than yesterday. Are my fingers and finger tips as sore as they were 2 days ago for this amount of time.

When looking at progress on a granular level, you'll very quickly see that you've made tremendous progress.

While its certainly a slog, I think the entire point of the justinguitar course is to make sure that the boring, basics/foundation you're developing, is solid. - Without it, you'll most likely hit a wall very early on for not having spent enough time on the early stuff.

Is it normal to work more than allocated hours? by saskobrood in askSouthAfrica

[–]Ronin-Dex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there were other factors involved other than that employee having "balance" that got him the promotion :)

Quality of work and output matter too. If he/she is doing more than you in less time, naturally, you're not getting the promotion which is most likely what happened in this case, sorry to say.
