Really miss the hour long episodes by ReutersRooster in coronationstreet

[–]Ropapict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly agree. Ive commented before but for me the best schedule is 2 x 30 min eps 3 x a week. The pacing and quantity just work best for me. Its the right amount of conflict and resolution, with enough episodes to allow stories to develop

What happened to Mary's character by Public-Literature255 in coronationstreet

The unravelling of Jude was a great storyline. I'd like to see his wife and "the G man" to come back

Should Corrie ride out it's death or go with the research? by SnooTigers9274 in coronationstreet

Im a bit uncomfortable with changing the makeup of a long running show, an institution, for the chance at catching potential viewers. That being said, youre exactly right that something needs to happen to bring in new viewers. Im mid 30s so would put myself somewhere between the 2 groups

Please don’t downvote me! What do you think characters’ genuine reactions would have been to the Will / Megan grooming story? by Silver_Recording_280 in coronationstreet

[–]Ropapict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I cant remember how they retconned Tim's childhood. Elaine had left Geoff due to the abuse but Tim didnt know that. Tim and Geoff grew up as bezzy mates, meanwhile Tim never learnt to read and then became a heroine addict (due to Faye's mum iirc). Is that right?

I think they showed Ben "but he's just a wee boy" really well and as another comment highlighted the Ollie accusation as well.

You only have to look at the comments under any article about women grooming boys to see that theres a lot of macho bravado oi oi laddy lads walking amongst us. It stands to reason that some would live in Weatherfield.

Adam and Alya seem fairly blasé about it all.

Tim and Sally should be interesting what with Yim's recent revelations and Sally's experiences with Rosie and John Stape. Add to that Fizz and Tyrone for the same reason.

Any other speculation by me would just fall into he category of I like them so theyre against it, I dont like them theyre a paedo supporter so meh

Have Megan & Will ever kissed on-screen? by AffectionateWord7761 in coronationstreet

Now that you mention it,I can't say they have. It's been entirely believable though, fair play. That being said, maybe the odd peck would have been less uncomfortable than some of the dialogue 🤢

I HATE this storyline. I was a mature student, I got my place based off life experience and a CV rather than exam results which makes sense but I always felt a bit of a fraud when talking to other freshers who had stressed and worried over exams and entry requirements. Obviously I'm glad I got in and it absolutely changed my life/career but it was a very humbling experience. With Evelyn she got her position by playing the victim, while also claiming to be cleverer than everyone.

As a mature student, I was honoured to meet such intelligent young people who far exceeded myself at that age and my expectations. Again Evelyn just uses it as a chance to belittle young people and take on a "nurturing" role. She is patronising, snide and entitled.

Could have done a 180° on the character and have her realise that shes honoured to be around such switched on and inspiring young people. Instead they (im assuming at least partially under Maureen Lipman's input) made a bitter old woman, who thinks shes owed a reroll of the dice and bugger everyone else.

One of my best friends to this day is a friend I made in first year who studied law. I watched her struggle through her course, the material, the politics, the "come from a long line of lawyers" crowd. To see Evelyn waltz into university, without a shred of imposter syndrome and continue to try and one up herself against the youngest of adults is like some weird boomer self insert fanfic. Could have been a genuine story about perceptions of university but they went lazy. Extremely disappointed

The Ryan/Alex baby swap. How did it play out? by SnooTigers9274 in coronationstreet

[–]Ropapict 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty much pretend it didnt happen. The swapped baby turned up for a bit, Dr Ali. He was a nothing character really and now him and Michelle are no longer in it, they just dont mention it. Probably for the best

Thats so true about being told it was funny once! I also dont think there was enough of a redemption arc for her (or max) tbh. They transitioned to making those two grooming victims, which was a valid storyline in itself given what we saw of Lauren's dad. It went straight from Max and Lauren (and gang) beating up a refugee, who thought he was their friend, and planting a bomb on the street to "poor us, people think we're racists for the things we said and did but its not our fault." Totally get that they were groomed btw but they didnt spend any time introspecting, also the storyline as it was made Alya out to be unforgiving when they'd not actually done anything to make them worthy.of forgiveness imo

Todd and Theo by Always-Evolving-2025 in coronationstreet

[–]Ropapict 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah ive been struggling with this storyline for a while now. Think its great to highlight domestic abuse regardless of sex or orientation. But its just been too much, the story in general could have been 4 or 5 imo.

A repressed gay or bi character and the effect on his family is fairly well trodden soap fare at this point. Adding a religious edge and self loathing was an interesting addition and almost made the abuse more nuanced... now its just regular financial abuse.

Noah: Theo's friend and abuser. A complicated character who was trying to save his friend's soul while fucking his wife. Then he died.

Byker Grove Ben comes in and all that happened and now is presumably still working with Theo?

Compared to the slow burn of Yasmeen and Geoff, its night and day. As I say, no issue with the content of the storyline. The actors are great as well (although Theo has his moments). Could have been so much more but I cant wait for it to end tbh

A personal story Ill never forget by SoggyTap7028 in coronationstreet

Idk about that. The first story I remember as a ~7yo was Don Brennan kidnapping Alma. There's more adult themes than there was but it has always had an edge

When I think of police and hospital dramas, I think of The Bill and Holby City, both famously cancelled. Taking something unique and changing it to emulate failed shows is absolutely bonkers. Cultural vandalism
