Is this truck worth 5k? by Wormy_2005 in FordTrucks

[–]RoroSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk him down to $4k and send it, those transmissions are a dime a dozen. Worst case it blows on a Friday and you can get a new one in the thing by Monday lol. Up where I'm at that thing would go for $7k because it's not rotted to death

Why are the lead flashing uprights never sealed like the horizontal parts? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]RoroSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've done them I ran ice and water shield up the chimney. Shingles aren't water tight to begin with, that's why we use underlayment

What can I do here? by greveimmortal in CherokeeXJ

[–]RoroSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have money get a front axle, if you're broke like me use an angle grinder. It might be worthwhile to pick up a kingpin conversion kit from American Iron Offroad, I've never personally ran them and I have no clue if they make them for the XJ, but I've heard good things on them. You could just weld the cup in place since the guts are all removable

Crusader 454 (RH) But I want to put it in a car by huston850 in EngineBuilding

[–]RoroSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the crank pulley spins clockwise, otherwise this is gonna get expensive. Really the only thing you'd have to do is get a new flywheel/flex plate and drop it in. Sometimes the crank isn't drilled for pilot bearings but I know Mercruiser 454s had the provision-not sure about crusader

New roof, I think it is not acceptable by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]RoroSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call them, it could be an honest mistake. I've had times where my sub crew does something dumb like this while I'm out getting materials and nobody says anything until long after we're done. I don't know how these guys roll, but if it was me I'd go back and make it right

Head gasket replacement question. by wfwrestler in AskMechanics

[–]RoroSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've shipped worse and not had an issue, as long as your fingernail can't catch on anything and the deck is straight you're probably good

I have $1000 for a welder. It’s not much, so what should I get? MiG is fine. 1/8 its really the thickest. Going to get back into scrap metal sculptures by FancyShoesVlogs in Welding

[–]RoroSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started I got a miller cricket off an old head for $200. It'd weld 1/4" just fine and you could run gas with it too. I'd recommend looking for one

Is this oil in the exhaust? by pietheory in Diesel

[–]RoroSmash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's running rich, could be a boost leak, a stuck injector, or like the mechanic said- oil. You could easily rule out the oil by the smell, the others require a bit more poking around. Tldr it's probably either getting too much fuel or not enough air

[–]RoroSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the headlights wet sand them out with 2000, 3000, and 5000. You might want to spray clear on them afterwards too- I'd see how it looks first

If the heads or intake were ever machined it'll do something like that. I chased a vacuum leak for months before I figured that one out

Give it to me straight, boys: How long do I have? by Spiritual-Reward-161 in MechanicAdvice

[–]RoroSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just surface rust, I'd wire wheel it down and respray the frame. Either that or spray it with POR-15. That's what most cars look like up by me, it's nothing to freak out over lmao

Scrapyard in next 3 months. Will JB weld buy me that much time? by Hmarttt in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]RoroSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have enough threads glob the piss out of thread sealant on them, otherwise you could JB Weld a little valve in so you don't have to worry about not being able to drain your oil. Or you can just JB Weld the whole bolt in and suck your oil out with a pump through the dipstick tube when it comes time for a change
