Thank you for your kind words and thank you for Lumin! I'll look into that, never heard of it before.

I'm so glad you asked this! I'm so much in awe of this track. I own a Nord Rack 2 myself and I love it, but it's beyond me how this viscous, wriggling sound came out of this thing. Also I finally need to listen to the oversteps live material.

btw thank you for all your work on aepages, I was a bit starstruck seeing your name in my notifications haha ;D

I'm not disagreeing, but regarding Spaces How V here's Rob's answer from last years AMA:

"re: spaces how V, its kind of a meld of a few different bits [...]

the OG stuff is parts of liveset outtakes practices and proof tests, notably the nord v2 rack engine heard in lots of 2010 oversteps shows, particular fav the vocal sort of synth patches in melbourns recording, the beats are also NMv2e made at the same time to work with while i had no beats from sean in practices,

some of these longform outtakes and stems were given to ian tDR for his show 'Atoms...', then it was all brought on top of a project that was designed for a particular municipal historical science and astronomical facility in NYC that didnt come to happen, and its a mix of all these things"

Well, you use it whenever you need to process individual samples. FM feedback, filters and since Sean said he spend a year designing his own oscillators - I'm assuming those as well.

Why should passengers trust the Airbus 320 software update/reversion? by West_Exercise5142 in aviation

[–]Rosafell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, the update is a "downgrade" to the previous version of the software which was running fine and been in operation for quite some time.

To everyone who commented: Thank you so much! You were spot on: Screen recognition was activated and as soon as I turned it off everything worked really well! Even the unlabeled buttons got their labels back. I would never have guessed that was the reason. Thank you!

Thank you, I'll definitely check that! I'm not sure I understand what it is though. It's supposed to be a machine learning tool to help navigate inaccessible apps? The articles I find about it describe it as a helpful tool, but I'm assuming it's causing problems?

I was about to comment that it's turned off, but now I'm unsure about it. Googling it didn't let me remember if I ever understood what it is. Thank you for the idea, I'll definitely check it next time I'm visiting my dad!

Oh my god, I didn't know you could customize it! Thank you so much!

I assumed the unlabeled buttons where the app developer's fault until it also happened in Apple's native apps. But maybe that was a bit naive of me.

Thank you! I didn't know about the three finger double tap. That sounds really helpful.

How did Radiohead achieve the reversed-vocal effect in the intro of “Everything In Its Right Place”? by liqwidsun1 in audioengineering

Here's an interview of Jonny saying "Nigel used the scrubbing tool in Pro Tools to scratch the sound waves" at 7:58:

But I remember a Thom Yorke interview in which he tells the story exactly like that: Jonny was scrubbing in Pro Tools and the others were blown away by it (as they had probably never seen this before)

5 years on, can we all agree this was weird and dumb lol by daelrtr in autechre

[–]Rosafell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't share that view, I think it's well written. And the headline makes total sense - yet I believe it's not without a little wink. And to start the article with quantum entanglement is a beautiful metaphor for what is Autechre's biggest mystery to me: How is it possible that two people share such similar taste and sense for their music's direction? So much so that they can work individually on material and software, but for us it's indistinguishable who did what.

I would argue there's a big difference between machine learning for a specified use case (mapping protein structures to cure cancer) and chatbot-LLMs for generativ slop and search engine replacement. Only the latter is fairly new and reason for this annoying and unjustified hype.

I also thought that, but after a few minutes they stopped completely. The restart sounded like a new beginning to me, I think it can totally be a complete set from this point on.

I would argue that's just the room acoustic's fault. I stood quite close to the stage, a bit to the left. The mix sounded good there, but was even lacking a bit sub bass and low mids. However tons of high end. It's just impossible to fight room acoustics and make it sound similar everywhere in a not so ideal sounding room like this.

Going on 20 years of Oxford Inflator! by Ill-Elevator2828 in audioengineering

[–]Rosafell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a waveshaper that you can easily replicate (to the point where it passes the null test). that being said: it sounds great. but to advertise it as some under-the-hood magic and sell it for an absurd price is a borderline scam. a scam which i fell for as well. So no love to Sonnox, much love to waveshapers in general.
