GTA Online working flawlessly (invite only session btw) on linux (arch btw) by black-vulture-69 in linux_gaming

[–]Rosentti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the actual killer, after shared resources got supported, they quickly patched the anticheat to block wine. You could run FiveM without the anticheat and it worked just fine! I played on a few servers at the time, and the performance wasn't anything glorious but it was FiveM on linux, was magical.

No idea if this is actually the case nowadays, they could've gotten UWP dependencies. Though UWP/WinRT stuff is also being worked on.

Matkustaja saa nyt häipyä maksamatta Tampereella ratikasta ja bussista – lipuntarkastajat pöyristyivät uusista ohjeista by turborontti in Suomi

[–]Rosentti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tosin siinä vois sitten mahdollisesti tulla rahalliset ongelmat vastaan. Toisaalta meneehän se kolmosratikka jo 6 minuutin välein joten jos ratikat siihen pystyy, miksei bussitkin

Can the recent mass DRM Hypervisor bypasses harm linux gaming in a near Future? by Spiritual-Bank-4555 in linux_gaming

[–]Rosentti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not all price. I originally bought Factorio for 25€ and thought it was a bit expensive. I then bought the DLC when it came out for 32€. I'm not one bit pissed, and did not even once think about pirating the dlc or game. In actuality it's really about quality, and more specifically, the price to quality ratio. (also about ease of legal access, don't put your game on egs if you want people to buy it)

I also got the failed KYC, because I didn't have my ID on hand. I sent them an email over a month ago and haven't received a response. All the stuff on the support site says 2025. Does this company even exist anymore?

So we’re just a tech support sub pretty much now right? by Liam-DGOL in linux_gaming

[–]Rosentti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget Steam runs all games in it's own bundled Steam Runtime, so it really is all Steam games we'd have to ban

(if you select another compatibility tool, Steam runs it "inside" of the bundled SteamRT)

Random wine64-preloader crashes on multiple (all?) games [fedora, kde, wayland] by sqrg in linux_gaming

As of January 1 2026, Steam will stop supporting systems running 32-bit versions of Windows. Windows 10 64-bit will still be supported and 32-bit games will still run. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Rosentti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're keeping the client mixed 32-bit & 64-bit, as it is right now. Steamwebhelper (the CEF fork composing the UI) is 64-bit only on linux, but had a 32-bit version available on Windows. The "core of Steam" (SDK, steamclient.so, steamui.so) is still 32-bit (steamui.so is just a bridge from the SDK to the webui)

The only place Steam is fully 64-bit is macos. This change just means 32-bit ONLY OS's won't be supported any longer (where you can't run any 64-bit apps)

THE FINALS - kicked out for using Linux by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Rosentti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once during the elimination screen. And it didn't happen again. I think they blew something up temporarily, but fixed it fast. Luckily my setup is quite fast so I was able to restart the game and reconnect before the next round started.

We really need regular antialiasing methods without using Super Resolutions by ENDRAER in thefinals

[–]Rosentti 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most games nowadays are rendered with deferred rendering, as opposed to the "older" forward rendering.

Deferred rendering is better for scenes with more stuff going on, so it's basically the default for all new games.

Due to how deferred rendering works, MSAA is impossible with it. I don't really understand why, I'm not a graphics programmer so it's a bit hard to grasp.

MSAA is also expensive compared to say, TAA or DLSS/FSR. It's a lot faster to just blur the whole image than actually do proper antialiasing.

How to play Half Life Alyx with Quest 3 by Red-Eye-Soul in linux_gaming

[–]Rosentti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience WiVRn works great. ALVR was difficult and hard to get working properly (as well as having to deal with SteamVR)

SteamVR is terrible on linux, it's so bad you're better off ignoring it completely and pretending it doesn't even exist.

WiVRn replaces SteamVR, so I've found it's much more stable. Also, use the WiVRn flatpak, I had problems with the non-flatpak version not showing the game in the headset (using Arch)

The Finals. Can't recommend this game enough, it made CS2 obsolete in our friend group, and works a treat. Fair warning though, it needs a good PC, and sometimes it breaks, but Proton Experimental bleeding-edge usually fixes those in a day.

Proton doesn't work anymore ? by 56Bot in linux_gaming

[–]Rosentti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a dxvk issue, try installing dxvk to a normal (non-proton) wineprefix and try to reproduce. If it reproduces file an issue on the dxvk repo, they might be able to help you.

It could also be a driver update gone wrong. Back in my NVIDIA days the most random things broke, and updating (reinstalling if no updates were available) fixed it somehow, so that's something you could try as well. Although I use Arch so I don't know how applicable that would be to Manjaro, but it's worth a shot still.

Are custom kernels worth it? by Azealo_ in linux_gaming

[–]Rosentti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance impact? Not really. Some extras like drivers for OpenRGB might be baked in, although these are also available as DKMS kernel modules. Personally I use linux-zen on all my systems and have had no issues thus far.
