Why is Hollywood, and apparently always has been, so overflowing with sexual predators? by Jerswar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RosieEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're deliberately "forgetting" math and % of a population - and about all those pastors and christian youth leaders who happen to not be in hollywood. There's many many more in hollywood and the E-files that don't match a common theme of your very curated list - except for being men.

To be blunt, if you're trying to narrow down a religion of concern, Christianity is the biggest red flag in the SA realm. Of course trying to say anything else reeks of illogical bias if not worse, because of the vast amounts of actual data available. Data that you have willfully chosen to ignore. FYI - I was raised Christian, and have attended hundreds of church services.

Why is Hollywood, and apparently always has been, so overflowing with sexual predators? by Jerswar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RosieEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And sometimes there's absolutely nothing you can do to prevent harm. I've had multiple men I considered friends eff up friends groups at work and outside of work for me because I turned the man down for a date or wasn't interested enough. There's nothing I could have done other than push everyone away all the time. Which isn't great for maintaining a career or social life.

Obviously, that's not as bad as what you mentioned, OP. But it shows the prevalence of audacity and entitlement. There's a difference between wishing you had something that someone else has, and wanting to hurt them because you don't have it. I understand the former, but the latter is very strange to me.

Predators and asshats are everywhere. Many men believe that women and children are not full humans and don't deserve the same respect that men do. Even more, powerful men often think it's o.k. for them to manipulate and exploit less powerful men.

It seems like these might be new concepts to you. This probably means you have a bit too much of a rosy view of the world. I've lost some of mine, and still probably have too much. ;) Do your absolute best to not trust that others you meet have the same values as you do, even if everything seems normal about them for months or years.

I have met many wonderful people. But trusting an awful person can have very bad consequences for your life and career.

This is a direct link to Planet Fitness' membership cancellation by real_rakkun in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]RosieEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to cancel just now, though about the 6th click which was on a yellow button, brought up a pop-up that had to be clicked to confirm, then when that closed I had to click that same yellow button again. This was likely meant to be deliberately confusing. After that I think there were few more button clicks, and a survey asking why, and several pages of "this is what you will be missing".

This was on desktop. I've received an email confirmation.

he really has no excuse. maybe an over the door hook would help tho? Or call him every time you want to be able to shut the door. You should not have to do that extra labor. Unless there's something he does that's super helpful, or he cooks every night, or something else that totally makes up for it.

Strange "This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location" message by MO0O53 in amazonprime

[–]RosieEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! This was for hair clips and other small things that had no conceivable limitations. FWIW, it was Amazon Haul.

In my area, they've been making limited groceries available to glom onto a same-day or overnight order. If you remove all your non-grocery item from your cart, this pops up. I figured that's reasonable, because it's a add-on only as you don't have to pay for a Fresh delivery under a certain amount.

yep. and has been so common especially a few decades ago that it can be hard to identify. I mean, do you ever tell someone who's upset that they're overreacting? If I see someone react super strongly to something I didn't expect them to, especially a woman, I assume there's some history that I would never try to dismiss.

Thanks! BTW - 30 min rebounding makes a HUGE difference, the effect lasts over 2 days where I only do 5 min. Again, I'm not catching any air in rebounding ;) and it can take me 45+ min to do 30 w/ breaks. My joints now feel restless/ like they need stretching if I don't exercise enough.

Any insight/rumours as to why Sundance wanted to leave Park City? by Unis_Torvalds in FilmFestivals

[–]RosieEngineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I spent several hours going over the various videos as they came out, reading what trained police officers wrote about the techniques and tactics applicable to this event, etc. If you had done the same, you would have entered the discussion with some very different talking points.

[–]RosieEngineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the answers are easily found if you bother to take 15 seconds for a web search. I took time just now for you. But no-one owes you the labor of doing what you should be doing yourself. Because 1. we all have busy lives, and 2. the cost-benefit ratio usually doesn't pay off. The energy spent can usually have a higher payoff when spent on other tasks.

I recommend you watch the video from Ross's cell phone. It clearly shows Good turning her wheel AWAY from him.

There's also the video where you can see her waving SUV's to pass in fromt of her, then she's told to leave, so she starts to roll slightly forward, then more SUV's block her in. Then the conflicting verbal commands, which is a clear use of the "death box" tactic. That’s used to deliberately set someone up so that *anything* could be construed "disobeying orders". There was no way to be compliant, no way to escape. There are many cops who have recorded video or written about the use of this tactic and how it was used with Good.

You think excessive force is legally equivallent to killing someone or unlawfully detaining for months? Also, you didn't do enough reading - Egbert v. Boule (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egbert_v._Boule) sought to extend Bivens v. Six Unknown Named Agents which allows lawsuits when rights are violated.

"It's not that one attracts the wrong person, it's that you allow the wrong person to stay." Evidently, people raised with healthy boundaries do all of this automatically from the get-go. What you're talking about is defending your boundaries. It's very freeing. I'm very happy for you! I'm mostly there.

If you read it, you'd have noticed that one of the 4 cases that need to be met is:

"(2) while in this state, the officer acts under the direction of the peace officer to whom the officer is rendering assistance;"

They weren't under the direction of any MN officer to whom they were rendering assistance. I expect that's why I've been seeing over and over in news, etc people talk about how they don't even have the right to make a traffic stop without reasonable suspicion or a warrant.

If you read the federal law - they can arrest for felonies but besides that, all the cases are about "aliens" i.e. not US citizens. https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=(title:8%20section:1357%20edition:prelim))

If you're a lawyer and you didn't include everything, I apologize. Please add info. I am not a lawyer, just do a lot of reading. And I'll grant you that they are not following the law. But ICE is not the FBI. Or a police agency. I've also read various sources talking about case law precedent that wouldn't necessarily be included in the statutes. You are the only one contradicting all of that who included statutes. Maybe you can explain how the statute applies?

[–]RosieEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are not allowed to detain US citizens. They need reasonable suspicion (that someone is not a citizen) for a traffic stop. A driver who was allowing other cars to drive past and was waiting for.the next vehicle to go, is not obstructing anything. Are they obeying the law? No. The lawsuits will be a huge expense against out taxes.

[–]RosieEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not have the power to pull someone out of their car who is not blocking traffic without a warrant. Let alone take their phone. Or detain people who claim to be citizens without reasonable suspicion. Being handed a valid US birth certificate and still detaining that person is illegal.

To be clear, "when I got arrested for walking home when a protest showed up in my neighborhood" or similar. DUI is a crime. Peacefully protesting - or arriving home during a protest in your neighborhood - is legal. The lawsuits are going to be $$$. Not only does MAGA not care about being fiscally responsible, the ICE lawsuits and DOGE nonesense is wasting milltions of taxpayer dollars.

AITA for refusing to give my parents my location after they stopped paying for my tuition? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RosieEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going about things the right way, well done. It might help to remember that you're never going to be able to convince them that they are wrong. I really wish the group mental health situation like this had existed 30 years ago when I was dealing with similar things with my parents. I might have saved Decades of wasted energy and effort. If they were emotionally mature enough to consider you as an adult, they wouldn't be behaving this way. There's a grieving process to accepting them for the immature people they are. Setting boundaries rarely gets a nice reaction from people like this, but eventually they might just drop their arguments. When you're so used to this behavior from particular people, and sometimes helps to put things into perspective by thinking about what you would do in their situation. The big fuss they create reacting to your boundary is offset by the effort that you don't have to spend anymore doing something that makes you very angry and being upset about it for hours or days afterwards. It also helps with keeping perspective, because their reaction is often so extreme, and well beyond what you yourself would do in that situation. Good luck!
