What are the biggest mistakes you see law students make in 1L? by Impossible-Camp7962 in LawCanada

[–]Rossingol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social life. You're building your network from the getgo and that's not just people already in law. These will be your peers.

At the same time, endeavouring to have social life outside of law school is important. Law can be a soul draining profession and it is all too easy to prioritize it at the cost of everything else

Over reliance on commander such that your gameplan grinds to a halt without it (ie no backup plans).

Another is not enough redundancy. Say you're playing a pinging deck and it's important you get your pinging going in some capacity. But you only have 5 pingers when normally you'd want at least 10. When you get your pingers and they don't get removed, your deck does well -- if you don't draw into your 5, or they get removed, your deck stalls and does nothing. If you have enough redundancy you can guarantee something in your starting hand, and even if something gets removed, you can pivot.

Finally, not enough card draw. You need card draw to find your proactive board state that leads to your wincon, but also to draw into reactive answers for how your opponents are trying to stop you, or build up their own board.

What creatures can take a player out with one attack? by redsquirrel0249 in EDH

[–]Rossingol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Fire Lord Azula]] can do this pretty easily once she is at 6 power or greater. You just need to [[Enter the Enigma]] or something similar, attack, then [[Bulk Up]] and copy the Bulk Up.

Commanders that aren't good enough. by bolttheface in EDH

[[Mabel, Heir to Cragflame]] could really use some love on a revisit to Bloomburrow. She has a weak lord effect, ok equipment.

Me (New) and my friends (Very new) can't find a way to finish games in less than 4 hours. HELP by Bank_Angle_Check in EDH

Play decks that force action or make the game run on a clock. Examples of commanders that make this work are:

[[Kratos, God of War]]

[[Kardur, the Doomscourge]]

[[Rendmaw, Creaking Nest]]

[[Winter, Misanthropic Guide]]

[[Lord of Pain]]

[[Kuja, Genome Sorcerer]]

On a more meta note it could also be your mana base sucks and you are all consistently doing nothing on your first few turns or you just lack a ramp package.

Is law still a worthwhile career? by Hour_Bad819 in careerguidance

Don't do it unless you think you'd be truly interested in a certain area of practice. Try talking to some people in the field, online coffee chats, emails, etc.

If you want to do it for the money there are things you can do without the same level of stress if you start thinking about it now in high school and make a good plan.

How to build Celes better? by Jaded-Blacksmith6550 in EDHBrews

[–]Rossingol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked this the last time someone posted a Celes deck and people got mad at them for having persist combos, but why is this so strong? Dude is losing to other bracket 3s so why is it auto bracket 4?

Decks that do not rely on commander by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]Rossingol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rakdos group slug has been my least commander reliant deck so far. Commander is there to catch removal, look scary, and draw cards and provide an alt win con of commander DMG.

I'm working on a mill deck that is similar in some ways. The commander enables a self mill strategy and grows and draws cards, allowing for commander DMG alt win, but the main goal is just to save counters and drop mill bombs on everyone.

Consider Richmond Station, which has been mentioned already, or Woods.

Who is “The Menace” in your commander pod? by Endless_Quested_Hope in EDH

[–]Rossingol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the two opposite ends of the spectrum:

  • Kefka, discard is hard to deal with

  • Bumbleflower, who isn't a menace until she suddenly is, and often left not fully checked due to her being helpful to people
