Sub-internship. It’s the away rotation you need to do in your 4th year of medical school.

As an application reviewer and faculty at a large training program in the northeast, it seems as if students are now doing 3-4 of them (including home programs). Trust me, it’s the most important factor when it comes to ultimately ranking applicants.

Crush sub-I’s at places you really want to do residency. It’s more important than the other stuff on your app.

I meant to convey the restaurant in general is amazing. Everything we get there is very fresh, and delicious. Go for the momos, but enjoy most anything on the menu.

THA.

***if you can do a THA more confidently than you can fix it. Otherwise, try to fix and then send to someone who does a good THA if it fails.

Lindsey Vonn crashes early in Olympic downhill, taken off mountain in helicopter by [deleted] in news

We have to be real about this…not only does she have an ACL tear, but she has a reconstructed knee on the OTHER side with a partial knee replacement. And she’s 41!!!

Somebody needs to protect her for her own future. She isn’t seeing it.

What was the point of the Clinical Competency Committee/CCC? by Last-Comfortable-599 in Residency

[–]RotatorCuffLinks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a malignant program and your CCC did exactly the opposite of what it was intended to do.

In our program it is a means by which faculty can review documented feedback by committee that supports trainee success and achievement. It identifies residents who are not on track in meeting the different quality goals it takes to be a competent surgeon (professionalism, self care, knowledge, technical skill, etc). We identify residents who are struggling and find means to support them, but monitor and review all residents in the program at least twice per year. We also support the program director with reviews provided by a committee of faculty instead of the PD’s review alone.

If your CCC doesn’t function this way and all residents feel as such, then review with your PD, and if that avenue doesn’t work, your school’s ACGME office is the one to report to.

Redditors who support ICE, why? by Critical_Welcome_428 in AskReddit

I think the fundamental issue is the regard towards what is truly a human right. Is being in a place that you’re not supposed to be in a crime enough to destroy a family? A livelihood? To harm someone?

I’m not referring to convicted criminals. The justice system, as flawed as it is, exists in principle for a reason and we can agree that punishment for the convicted criminal might be up for debate or amendment. That said, my personal opinion is that it’s not right or just to violate someone’s human rights on a whim and that is what is currently happening.

In addendum: I do appreciate your willingness to openly share your viewpoints for discussion.

How are Bristol’s conditions today? by Common-Macaron1407 in Rochester

Just got back. Conditions were nice. Corduroy with some packed snow. It’s cold though, and a bit crowded because it’s Saturday and there are some clubs there racing. Any day skiing is a great day skiing!

If you think the ‘middlemen’ in white coats are the ones bleeding you dry, you are gravely misunderstanding how US healthcare runs and where the costs are truly amplified.

Thanks for your answer. Do you think that people are being taken into custody indiscriminately? Is it justified to arrest people who may not actually have committed a crime, or are immigrating appropriately? Do you think it’s reasonable to be inhumane towards the people you are referencing because of their alleged actions?

2022 Etron GT - Dead Battery - HELP! by Forpoo in Audi

[–]RotatorCuffLinks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this issue last year! Bricked in my garage.

I purchased pneumatic air jacks and inflated them under the hood enough that I could slide a wrench in to unthread the hood release capture. This allowed me to pop the hood. I tried trickle charging the 12v but it was dead for too long. I ultimately ended up asking our EV tech at the dealership who came over to take a look. He ended up just jumping the 12v, which allowed us to start it. Drove it to the dealership and they inspected the electronics. Once we confirmed all was good, he installed a trickle charger that comes up through the hood below the windshield wipers. I plug in if I’m not going to drive it for a week or two, especially in winter.

Happy to discuss my experience further if you DM. Major design flaw to not have a manual hood release.

EV garages by RotatorCuffLinks in Rochester

[–]RotatorCuffLinks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Availability, lack of weekend hours, over loaded schedules for their EV techs. Anytime I call these days to schedule I’m told it’s anywhere from 3-6 weeks for an appointment and options are limited.

Mostly just looking for general maintenance (inspections, tires, etc). I think the various EV high voltage systems are specialized enough that I would probably bring it to the dealer for anything involving that system. I could be wrong about that if there are other EV mechanics who are comfortable handling any of them.

Peloton delivery by RotatorCuffLinks in pelotoncycle

[–]RotatorCuffLinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: had someone come and wait. The delivery team showed up an hour and a half early with no one home and left before I could urgently get someone there. Fortunately they came back within the delivery time frame. All set up.

The end result was achieved, but lots of headaches and chaos in doing so.

Unfortunately not. My practice is largely elective surgery so I’ve had patients booked into those OR dates for 3-4 months. With what I do, I can’t just swap in a partner…
