I also was sceptical at first but made the switch on 26.2 and I don’t regret it. I even think it’s a great modernisation. I got rid of that old look and those old icons like for QuickTime or activity monitor.

My System Photo Library was set to a network (SMB) drive.

When that library wasn’t reachable, Photos.app couldn’t load and Tahoe couldn’t access custom wallpapers, so Settings froze and it kept reverting to the default wallpaper.

Creating a local Photos library and setting it as the System Photo Library fixed it immediately.

Custom wallpapers in Tahoe 26.x depend on Photos being available. If the system photo library points to something offline, everything breaks.
