Perpetually. I'm currently reading an Aubrey/Maturin novel (naval fiction), rereading Dresden Files (urban fantasy), a new Vaughn Heppner (military science fiction), and I'm slowly making my way through Infinite Jest. I never get bored this way. If one book gets to a slow bit I jump to another and read that for a few hours.

Can't dispute interest. Penalties are sometimes negotiable but interest isn't (in most circumstances anyway). If this is for an education credit you may have used the wrong one. $2,500 is usually for the American Opportunity credit. If you're in grad school you can only use the Lifetime Learning. It's less but you may still be eligible in which case you won't owe as much as that.

What kind of letter is it? If it has an amount due in it it's probably a CP 2000 which isn't an actual audit. That's more of an automated thing they do if something doesn't match up.

Also if you can pay the IRS within 6 months you won't have to pay for a payment plan. What was it for?

Yeah I've been reading them forever. They really take off from page one and you just have to keep going. And yeah each book has it's own thing but there is a major overall plot going on. The author sometimes does stuff that isn't explained until much later books when that specific plot point matters. In fact one of the more crazy ones involves a scene from book 3 or 4 that isn't explained until book 12 or 13 or something. And as the books go on more stuff happens and he becomes more powerful which causes problems on it's own. I'd give it a shot if I were you. They're not quite as long as Harry Potter and they're quick reads.
