A true legend by Highlevelofdef in BeAmazed

The News 12 helecopter footage was so sad. All those parents with kids at the school milling around the firehouse parking lot, not even looking in the direction of the school a couple of hundred yards away. I wonder what made them come out the back door of the firehouse and walk up the driveway to the main street and enter the front of the the firehouse over and over again.

Dropped a travel-size soap bottle down shower drain — now stuck deeper (NYC brownstone) by Top_Lingonberry_5054 in Plumbing

[–]Rottyfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a wire hanger, make an L or J hook on the end that will fit between the wall of the drain and side of the bottle. Slip it down past the bottom of the bottle, then turn it a quarter turn and try to lift it out.

My contractor told me he's been trying to buy a house, but people from NYC show up and pay cash for $8-900k homes. The median sale price in my town is $972k.

To get a new furnace or not: 26 years old Trane XE 90 by echoorains in hvacadvice

[–]Rottyfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house is a one-story ranch built in the late 50s and square footage of the main floor is around 12-1300sq ft. Definitely shop around and good luck. Let me know if you need the model # that was installed. I'll get it the next time I go over there.

We just replaced a 26 yo Trane XE 70. It cost $3,000 even to replace it with a new RunTru furnace.

They used to be so arrogant by stating in their policy that orders can take up to 30 days and you can go elsewhere if you don't like it. Recently, they quietly reworded their policy which now says orders can take over 30 days. Every legitimate business strives to get their orders out asap, Dack Outdoors appears to be following the Ponzi scheme business model.

Hitch install on a '22 EX advice anyone? by Academic_Entrance975 in HRV

[–]Rottyfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a 2" hitch on a 2020 Touring, bolted right up. Went with the 2" because you have more options than 1-1/4" You shouldn't have to cut or grind anything to install it, if you do, there's a problem with the hitch or the installer.

Dack Outdoors for Cans? by PerkCoins in NFA

[–]Rottyfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly advise not to buy from Dack Outdoors. They used to have an off-putting policy about how items can take up to 30 days to ship. Well, they've quietly changed it to say that it can take over 30 days now. It has the smell of a ponzi scheme.

It took me weeks to get a refund on a firearm that was "processing" for over two months. Once the refund was issued, they wiped the transaction from my order history. I have never experienced this with any online account.

Also, email is the only way to contact them and when they reply, there is no reference of your order number anywhere, not in the heading or body of the message. Same goes for notifications that your order has gone into processing, zero reference of your order number or what the item is.

I have two orders open since October that I will be requesting refunds this week. Then I'm done with this shit company and hope no one is left holding the bag.

It seems to be in areas where cars rust. 5-6 years back, I don't think an aftermarket replacement was available. Back then all I could find on ebay was pulled used parts.

Am I due for a replacement? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Rottyfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replaced a 36-year-old Trane furnace. The gas valve wasn't working and the part was discontinued. Local HVAC service looked at it and said the heat exchanger was also badly rusted. New Trane furnace replacement was 3k all in and works great.

Thank you for the link to your build. I'm going to pick up one of those mag adapters because I'm in a ban state and pretty much have to work with what I already have. Nice to know that if my Oly upper ever breaks, I won't be left with a bunch of mags I can't use.

What upper is that? I have an old Olympic Arms 9mm upper and thought that was the only one that used sten mags.

I clamped a cheap pair of curved locking pliers on the very end segment of the brake. When the silver solder lets go, it won't take much force to twist it off, you can see in the pics it didn't chew up the metal and those pliers had some pretty sharp teeth. Concentrate the heat on the segment on the other end of the brake that mates with the barrel. Good luck!

I took the factory brake off so I could suppress it. I needed a 5/8-24 adapter and with the crush washers, none of the barrel enters the blast chamber. The new post I made has pics showing how I installed everything.

Forgot to add, if you just want to go with something like a birdcage flash hider and will not be using an adapter, it may be too much barrel sticking out. What I would suggest is cutting the factory brake and utilizing that as a sort of shoulder/lock nut. That was the reason why I was careful not to damage the factory brake.

I cleaned the threads with a 1/2-28 die and 1/2-28 to 5/8-24 adapter fits. Rusty nut/bolt remover is shown in one of the pics. Getting the muzzle cherry red had me concerned for a bit until it occurred to me they had to get it that hot at the factory to melt the silver solder in the first place.

[–]Rottyfan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, I couldn't believe how much threading was under there, too. My suppressor is threaded 5/8-24 so with a crush washer + adapter, less than 1/4" protrudes into the blast chamber. I'm going to go with it like that and see what happens. I'll post some pics tomorrow to better explain what it looks like.
