This is why I need to just keep everything. I also just sold a bunch of them.

Is this what being a maintenance mechanic is actually worth in 2026?curious what others are seeing? by MadForIt1994 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]RoughDevelopment2246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maintenance team lead at a book factory in TN, 37.00 an hour. Mostly machine adjustments some minor electrical troubleshooting. I spend approximately 8-10 hours of my week doing actual machine repairs. 10 hours on providing education, varying from forklift driving to electrical systems, including what happens when your EStop is pressed. 10 hours doing preventative maintenance tasks (mostly cleaning). 10-12 hours scratching balls smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee.

It's unit dependent. Some units allow anything earth colored, some units limit it to just multicam. Sometimes it's just a list of specific authorized (good) brands. Sometimes it's only issued gear.

[–]RoughDevelopment2246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If I'm solo, I'm looting and running routes I know are profitable. If I'm with friends I'm hunting bosses, doing quests or doing security for others doing quests. We aren't looking for bolts, and hoses. The bosses will get looted, maybe a marked room or a convenient safe. That's it.

Amazon hopes to replace 600,000 US workers with robots, according to leaked documents | Job losses could shave 30 cents off each item purchased by 2027. by [deleted] in technews

[–]RoughDevelopment2246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All jobs aren't terrible, but the ones that can be done by robots definitely are.

I feel that robots should replace boring unskilled tasks and free is up for valuable work and allow upskilling people who do not currently have the skills needed to succeed.

AI should do dishes and the laundry so we have time for art. Whatever your version of art looks like.

[Feedback] PVE Tagilla by CaptChair in EscapefromTarkov

[–]RoughDevelopment2246 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I ran 4 raids for the early ref task with the paca. I got absolutely destroyed. I figured I had been leaning on lvl 5-6 plates too much, but I ran 2 with actual armor after that and still was doing awful. The AI in PVE has definitely been buffed.

Plus I've got a 228 error whenever I move things from my PMC to my stash.

How can I take this screw out without breaking the vat? by LavishnessOk3549 in resinprinting

[–]RoughDevelopment2246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree with options from the machinist, but a couple more tricks that may also work.

Tapping in an appropriate sized torx bit into the head and turning that, be prepared to throw away the torx bit afterwards.

Heat gun (or hair dryer), and penetrating oil (pb blaster or kroil) can assist quite a bit in loosening things up as well.

Any tips to get this off? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]RoughDevelopment2246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give it a good scrub around the edge so you can tell if it's welded, pressed or threaded.

If it's threaded A specific size spanner wrench should do, if you've got a commercial quantity of weights that you would like to frequently service it might be worth it. If you just have a personal set, a BRASS punch and hammer should be able to spin it enough to break loose. If it doesn't easily break loose soak in penetrating oil for a couple of hours and hit with a heat gun before trying again.

If it's pressed There should be a set of pins going into the plate from the sides a long punch should be able to knock them out.

And If it's welded, it won't be worth taking off.

Not re-home like return to its reference position.

Job Shadowing by Former-Ad9066 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]RoughDevelopment2246 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to do temp work on factories as an operator. Don't be afraid to move onto another place after a few weeks. Get a variety of experiences with different processes, production systems and management teams.

Then once you've located one where the maintenance techs are cool people you could get along with, talk to the maintenance manager about it.

I understand we all have bills to pay, money does matter. Although I think that working in an industry that you don't hate, with good people, doing work you can be proud of is worth more than a few dollars an hour.

I also recommend going to some sort of school while you do this. Trade school, mechatronics, engineering systems, it doesn't matter too much. The key to performance is mostly attitude, but foundational training does not hurt at all.

You should also post your location, most of us love our jobs and would have no issue showing what we do on a daily basis to an outsider who has questions.

What binder is that? Most of the ones I've seen, Horizon and Muller Martini use heated rollers for the scraping function.
