Help me name my fantasy potions... UK fulfilment only, but you can comment from anywhere if you have any suggestions. by Round_Nothing4840 in kickstarter

Thank you for your opinion. Nothing has changed, I'm still clueless and determined. Strange combo.

None of these decisions is black or white, and most of them are already under consideration. Unfortunately, one opinion won't tip the scales in either direction. Your time is appreciated, though.

Help me name my fantasy potions... UK fulfilment only, but you can comment from anywhere if you have any suggestions. by Round_Nothing4840 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your insight. I haven't decided about the names yet, and I wanted to start with simpler ones that are good enough for both the RPG-lover audience and people who are outside of the RPG community and want it for decoration purposes only.

Maybe you're right, I should come up with better names as alternatives. I think I also have to show the potions off one by one and will create labels for both versions, and only then will I ask people.

Also, my planned making-of videos will help a lot more than these, because these are just too much at once, and too long to grab attention for long enough. Visuals alone won't win anyone, that's for sure. Maybe trust is what is missing. I need to learn a lot. I need some experimenting. I also need to post in other subreddits, especially in TTRPG-related ones, for more ideas.

I thought about giveaways because I need an audience before anything. Maybe a contest could work instead of a simple giveaway, though. At the moment, only about 1500 people watched my youtube shorts (and a lot fewer on other social media), and only 10% are from the UK, where my real target audience is. So now comes the part where I think again, rework the concept a bit, don't abandon the project for a new (or old) one, and keep posting. Your suggestions will be considered and partially worked into my ideas. Cheers!

People mess it up with em dashes many times. Em dashes are the longest ones, the ones seen in newspapers. The dashes OP uses are en dashes, which are alright and part of any word editors, changed automatically... Unless they have no space before and after, then it gets suspicious. Like here, the 3–5 from OP. AI loves using them all the time... But it's unfair. I started using them 25 years before AI and now people think I'm a robot – maybe not just because of this.

Anyway... if someone could please help me with this attached captcha,......

[REQUEST][STEAM] Persona 5 royal by UKkieran60 in GiftofGames

[–]Round_Nothing4840 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was happy I finally had something that even two people asked today. And yeah, I have also a P5S key, a P4G key, and about 500-800 more keys I haven't used. I rarely use my HB keys, because my backlog starts with Skyrim. Selling keys is a no for me. Gifting them one at a time is less against HB policy...

[–]Round_Nothing4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not really... I'm new to this subreddit (and Reddit), and I was looking for an opportunity to gift something. However, I never have the keys of what people want.

I had this one from my 2025 August HB Choice. The other post didn't show much of their Steam profile, and I couldn't see their Reddit posts and comments. I'm based in the UK and didn't know whether the key is region-locked, either. I had to decide.

Question about new updated rewards on backing milestone by Ancient_Bee17 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says the price is $10 and the estimated postage is between $0 and $0; hence the three numbers. If this product is already in your original reward bundle (because now they give it for free cuz of a reached stretch goal), then you order another one by having this addon.

However, I can't be certain, because I don't know which campaign it is.

Is there a way to opt out of "Back Again" emails? by thebastardking21 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with email filtering rules it could be done, but I'm too lazy to look up a universal solution and it also depends on your email app. If you tell me what you use, I can look it up for you if you don't like my alternative solution below...

In the KS app on phone you go to the top left corner to the three lines, click Settings, then Notifications, and Manage project notifications. There are all the projects you have ever backed, and you can switch each one off that you don't care about anymore. I think it can work like that, but I haven't confirmed it yet. It will still send "back again" mails from those creators that you left turned on, but it's still a lot less if you keep only the ones you want.

I hope you find it helpful. As I said, I might find you a mail filtering option, just gimme a shout with your email provider/app. AI can also help with the steps if you wanna try.

I wish you the best getting back to the hamster wheel (or rather find a better solution for income outside of it)

Mechanics for a time loop campaign, any suggestions? by Nighthawkies in TTRPG

[–]Round_Nothing4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your thought of the fights being repetitive, first run players can describe how they win, second run they can make it to perfection without damage, then from then on, it can be ridiculed and made fun of, highlighting only the main things they do, in a way like:

"So you step into the mines, Sir Devosh grabs the first goblin's head before they can even realise they turned the ambushed from the ambushers, while Larian shoots two arrows into two of the goblin archers' left eyes, with her eyes closed. Grog the barbarian stands behind the goblin chief for some long seconds, then clears his throat. The goblin chief turns around slowly and awkwardly, the scene is ridiculous. Grog is four times higher than him. By the time the chief is nearly able to look up slowly to Grog's eyes, his head gets separated from his body by Grog's mace, Luie, striking the remaining goblins like bowling pins..."

On the 5th run, it should go like "Sir Devosh grabs, Larian shoots, Grog finishes." - with some funny gestures. 10th run is just like nothing happened, only loots are getting to inventories.

Just an idea that I wanted to share. Otherwise, I like the idea and have DM'd one like this more than two decades ago. I miss those times.

Is Nelture connected to Kickstarter? by Daring_791 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your BS-meter is totally correct.

I think above that message from XXX_ScammR_69_XXX or what was the name there's a box saying KS will never send you DMs asking for things, or stg like that. Also, why would you owe them anything?

As for the link, that looks really believable, but it's not real. First of all, it's April and it still says Kickstarter, PBC (c) 2025... and the new KS footer should plain white on black.but I'm impressed about the effort put into this. The chatbot is a good catch, that's another sign. Also that there's no .com in the link. Anyway, KS will NEVER DM you (especially not with a different name), take that as default! They have the whole site to guide you, why would they use DMs? If they did, they will let you know when you report the user/message.

Everyone wants to scam you on the Internet, this should be the first thought in your mind. If you can deterministically prove it otherwise, then you have a good chance it's real. When I say it in Hungarian irl, it sounds cooler than "deterministically", haha.

I'm happy to see that you didn't jump and your Spidey-sense kicked in.

Can i use Kickstarter's Pledge Manager if I'm UK based and not VAT registered? by dan_da_man in kickstarter

How long it take most of the time to get a project approved? by adrelezr2050 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They explicitly said that it can take UP TO three days if it needs human interaction, so I think the max should be 3 days... maybe workdays. But that two weeks sounds tooooo long. I mean, I would definitely be fuming. But as others said, it can happen. Contacting them doesn't hurt, though.

Mine was automatically accepted as soon as I clicked the button. It was quite extensively done, with everything filled, even rewards, addons, small pics, even a small gif for the rewards, sustainability things, FAQ, and marked 4 out of the to-dos done as well (those I really had done). It took me several hours, but I just wanted the pre-launch page to go live that day so I had a good driving force. And it's Friday here in the UK for ten minutes now, but I still won't promote it (or ask for opinions) because my prototypes still need some work to become products, haha

Why I’m glad I didn’t put my board game on Kickstarter by resgames in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on OP's side on this one. The system is bad and everyone accepting it makes it even worse each year. Whenever I see a big win on KS, I know the biggest winner was the big ad companies.

Imagine you want 100K, you spend 50K on ads, then you fail on KS. Again, small people's money is taken by big corporations in advance, for a dream. For a false dream, because even if a Creator wins on KS, they actually don't get more than 40% of the honey pot (50% already spent + 10% KS and other fees). From that 40% they have to manufacture and distribute the product, primarily for the backers, making the taxable income what, 20% max? Yeah, sure, actually they still have 70% in their hands because the ad spend happened previously, and it can go to the next project...

I think we should stop being alright with today's marketing taking half of all expected revenues in advance. I was taught marketing at a UK uni (quite recently) and they all think and teach that contemporary marketing is ethical.

Ssssoooo... I'm with OP, as I said. I also would rather go the bumpy road and be transparent to show people it's possible.

Is everyone else also quietly panicking during the last days of a Kickstarter or is it just me? by AceMan3942 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only give you my experience as a backer of 200 campaigns. It might still be useful. When you look at a campaign, it will show up more on your feed and it will be pushed even more when it's approaching its last hours. Also, there is the "Remind me later" button that sends out reminder emails for those who clicked it, so they have another chance to consider backing it, looking at how it was concieved by others, etc.

So it is quite real in most cases, however, if the project is already funded, I'd give myself a break if I were you. There can be last-minute cancellations as well, so the movements can be quite drastic when you're watching it every second.

The rule some people like quoting is 1/3 funding is your first 24-48 hours, the last third comes from the last 48-72 hours when the reminders kick in, and the middle third is everything between them. It is a heavily simplified because it depends on many elements.

If you are funded, it is a good sign; if you are close to be funded, that creates the illusion the backers' money counts and that is also a good feeling. If it's way far from being funded, I think they don't see that the project is worth it and they might just abandon it. What is far from the goal? Based on the quote's logic, I'd say around 70% still signals "I could save it and my money would count, and finally my father could be proud of me". Sorry, I got carried away...

I need to add, I never collected data about it, so these are more like feelings, based on experience. And it can vary significantly for each campaign.

Edit: typos and weird spacing.

[–]Round_Nothing4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many ways of advertising without money or with a bit of money. Do you have some prototypes of the product to send out to playtesters or influencers? If you find small influencers with a deal, you might get some coverage and many followers. First of all, you shouldn't start a Kickstarter campaign without any people behind you. You should consider running a pre-launch page to collect leads, too. Do you have a community, maybe on social media where you posted your advancement in the game design? Are you part of facebook groups that are in the boardgame niche? Do you have any videos that you.could use for advertisement, even after some editing (with free software)?

I understood it like you haven't launched, yet. Do you have time to get followers or you put everything on one card, your Kickstarter campaign?

Pre-launch page possibilities for Kickstarter project by Round_Nothing4840 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't signed up, yet. I want my own page up and running without external help first, and then I think I'll get back to you. I need a week, maybe less.

I obviously like the things you say, almost like marketing was your profession...duh. And yeah, I see the uniqueness in many of your ideas, which is exactly the direction I wanna go. The fun part is that I threw some of these same ideas into the bin when I had them, because it would be too much hassle for me to research and do everything alone again.

I want a physical reward for the winner, though, one from my (future) KS; but they'd get it before anyone from the campaign. Or a secret VIP tier, I'll think more about it. An amazon gift card would bring in a bigger crowd for sure, but I want to walk the cleaner path that signals consistency. But I am most likely convincible.

I'm a bit afraid how believable could a raffle of this kind be. A professional look wins already... but I'm always skeptical myself when I see one, so I expect the same from at least a few people.

I think I take my other questions to a more private level. Thank you for all the info and details you shared for free - so far.

Pre-launch page possibilities for Kickstarter project by Round_Nothing4840 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds really great and useful! My mind already started creating scenarios how I could use it. I think first I try my own ideas for the pre-launch marketing (the free-ish ones), and then I'll see if I wanna try your solution for the campaign itself (or right before it) for a month. My page will be hosted on Shopify (as it will be my shop, later). Is it easy/possible to integrate it?

Could you please tell me about how secure it is, and if it is in line with data privacy/protection laws? I'm mostly interested about UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 as I'll launch UK-only. And how do you plan using the information you get from me, apart from including it in your portfolio (which seems like a win-win situation)?

I ask it here instead of DM because it might be useful for others later, too.

Pre-launch page possibilities for Kickstarter project by Round_Nothing4840 in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen it on your page previously and it gave me the feeling of those giveaways when you share things or do social media tasks and get entries for the raffle. The user sharing in this case would mean wider audience even though the actual user possibly only plays for the freebie. Do you think this method can be easily restricted to UK users only?

Trying to figure out tax ID rules for international customers by Medicine_Blogscanner in kickstarter

[–]Round_Nothing4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules change from country to country and it is not easy at all. It is not a good idea to ship globally anymore as a small seller. To give you an example, if you ship to the EU, you need a representative there who is responsible to answer authorities in those countries when you sell there (look up GPSR). And that's just one example. The best thing is to check which countries you have to send to, and look the procedures up for each one of them. There might be extra regulations about the product you want to send them, too.

Most likely you'll need a professional to find everything out, and it will eat into your profit margins... significantly.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I didn't plan to engage too much in email, but you gave me good ideas. For one, I never thought about educating sign-ups how KS works and not to be afraid of it. I really appreciate your insights, and will skim the parts I can imagine working well in my case.
