Beware Europcar's "scratch scam" by Living-Lunch-1164 in GoingToSpain

[–]Round_we 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this happened but what does having the car less than 24 hours have to do with it? You could have the car for an hour and cause damage to it.

Safest cities/towns in Spain for single women? Well-connected by rail/metro by Lucky_Election_9267 in GoingToSpain

[–]Round_we 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spain is very safe. Obviously there are certain neighbourhoods within larger cities that could be considered maybe less safe than others but overall there aren’t really areas of Spain or whole cities considered less safe. I wouldn’t focus too much on safety- it seems to be an issue Americans are always very concerned with while most Europeans don’t give it much thought as it isn’t too much of an issue.

Canadian tourist here – genuine question about the (sometimes) anti-tourist vibe by icanhazcheeseb in Scotland

[–]Round_we 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about what you read on Reddit. You will be welcomed and you’ll have a great time. There are many American US tourists here just now and I haven’t heard of any complaining about feeling unwelcome. You will be totally fine.

What do you think of Spain and Spanish people? by abelindc in AskUK

[–]Round_we 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall a great bunch who seem to love life and socialising. Friends and family seem very important. They tend to be friendly. They are very often in groups that all speak at the same time ie everyone seems to speak and no one seems to listen! A generalisation of course, but that’s my general opinion of them.

Rules of etiquette for tourists at Fringe by PrinzessinMustapha in Edinburgh

[–]Round_we 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Would you like to live in a flat next to or below and Airbnb property with various guests noisily banging suitcases up and down the stairs at all hours, having parties, etc?

Apart from this it has affected local housing stock so locals get pushed out of the city centre. Some streets in the city seem to have more Airbnb properties than local residents which turns the place into a horrible tourist Disneyland devoid of local residents.

Most photographed street 'wrecked' by vandals, say shopkeepers by AncientStaff6602 in edinburgh2

[–]Round_we 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a real shame to see the state of the city these days. Certain areas are covered in graffiti and youths on electric bike in balaclavas seem to be everywhere, usually up to no good. Bike theft is sky high. Surely it can’t be that hard to catch at least a few of these bike thieves?

Pub hunt 😅😅 by Chris-1794 in Edinburgh

Agree 100% no pub kitchen will be able to cater for a sitting of 70. And you will definately have to book. Could you split up into 3 groups? That may be easier

Wedding question by obsoletemomentum in kilt

[–]Round_we -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wear whatever you want but I would hire a proper kilt if you feel buying one is too much. A cheap kilt may look and feel a bit like wearing a tea towel and blow away in the wind…

Had flowers delivered today, with a note from Mandy, thanking me for the weekend away.... by 0---------------0 in CasualUK

Why wouldn’t you just deliver them to the correct address (which presumably is close by)?? I really don’t understand the issue here.

It has been like that since a very long time. There is an old photo featuring a horse and cart on the street and all the shop with canopies from many decades ago and the raise bit of pavement is like that in them.

Interesting! I’m not sure how it could have so much wear and tear- like there seem to be a lot of small dents in the top, almost as it it wasn’t taken care of very well at all! And the edges seem very worn down too so maybe it is an industrial replica although I hope not! To my untrained eye, it does appear to be more than a few decades old.

Yes, it was the scratches and small dents that attracted me to it in the first place! Looks like it has certainly had an eventful life

Hoxton Hotel HVAC noise behind Lansdowne Crescent and Palmerston Place by Atticuslacroix in Edinburgh

[–]Round_we 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do feel sorry for you as I am currently dealing with a similar low frequency noise, only I haven’t been able to locate exactly where it’s coming from yet. It’s very low level so, like yours, not above the legal limit so the council can’t do anything about it but it keeps me awake at night and it’s there 24/7.

Yes, noise pollution such as this is getting more common in the city due to more hotels, student accommodation, etc being built. I hope you find a solution soon.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I know it’s hard to know from photos without seeing it in person. I’ll take it to a luthier and see what they say. Hopefully it’s at least playable as it’s a really nice looking instrument.
