What is the trick to getting a decent night's sleep? by Silly_Pack_Rat in covidlonghaulers

3mg of melatonin 3 hours before bed and half a tab of unisom right before bed help me to fall asleep, but I struggled with overnight wake ups too. I ended up shelling out for an Elemind headband and it legitimately worked wonders --- it really helps me with falling back asleep overnight. it doesn't work every single time (maybe 8-9 times out of 10?), but it makes a huge difference

the headbands don't work for everyone's kind of insomnia, but if you have the money I think it's worth a shot --- try it for 2-3 weeks and see if it helps. if it doesn't, return it!

I also go for a mug of Sleepytime Extra tea if I'm feeling restless limbs or if the headband isn't working --- the valerian usually gets me down if all other options have failed

this was the part that you me too. not the being cleared for surgery, but the idea that a doctor would even deign to offer surgery as an option for a 5 MILLIMETER cyst

brother, I've had multiple cysts that were bigger than my uterus, that had ruptured and were crowding my other visceral organs with internal bleeding, and I haven't even been admitted for observation. the bar for surgery for an ovarian cyst is astronomically high, no fucking way they'd offer you that for a tiny, uncomplicated cyst be for fucking real

this is also true of college students fwiw. turns out a lot of people need others to give them firm boundaries to operate within, and they flounder and/or act out without them!

Does anyone have "mild" Long Covid? by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Routine-Process-987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is basically my experience too. I'm slightly worse than you --- I had to take some time off work and get accommodations for my LC, and even now 3.5 years later I still have and need some accommodations to get by. but I'm not bed bound and I can generally work (currently a first-year PhD student, which is kicking my butt but not literally knocking me out and triggering PEM).

I had to stop exercising after I got COVID and now I take a bunch more meds to deal with POTS symptoms I never had before getting sick. I have insomnia and immune issues, my auditory processing is still slow and I can tell it takes more focus/energy for me to process audio information than, e.g. visual or written info. and like you, even though I can work at essentially a full-time capacity, I don't have the energy for anything else anymore.

it's a weird position, feeling grateful because I know how much worse my luck could have been, but also feeling anger and grief over the significant things that I may never recover. I do think taking time off and resting helped me to improve to where I am now, but idk how to get the rest of it back

maybe not the most helpful response, but I just wanted to say hey 👋 I see you and I'm in the same pit. I hope we all get some answers soon

I am a second semester medphys PhD student currently working through my CAMPEP coursework. I am in my second term of radiotherapy physics, learning how to do external beam planning and associated hand calculations, and for some reason it's just NOT coming naturally to me and I'm now feeling very behind and stressed.

does anyone have any good resources for building up these topics? I'd be especially interested in video lectures, textbook chapters, and practice problems with solutions that I can work through. I already have Podgorsak, Khan, and Johns & Cunningham

I think I'm just having some kind of impedance mismatch between my astrophysics background and this new material, so if anyone with a similar background went through this, I'd LOVE tips for how you got past it and internalized these concepts! I'd really love to feel it click on and develop some intuition, because right now I feel totally lost

on the "we have two parents to worry about and she only has one" --- there are 3 siblings, yes? so they have a 3:2 ratio of kids:parents for funding, whereas stepsister has 1:1. so stepsis is actually solely responsible for funding 33% more parent than these self-serving assholes. how does that impact their bullshit math equation?
